Project Awakening Creators Discuss Development & Its Advanced Engine “Cyllista” on Famitsu

Tago-san mentions that Project Awakening and the Cyllista Game Egine are being developed fully in tandem, so the direction of the game's development influences that of the engine and vice-versa. In fact, he is at the helm of both projects at the same time. He keeps in mind both what he wants to achieve technically and with the game.
Project Awakening is being developed with the aim of a realistic look, so the engine is being adjusted to further that goal. The original aim was to create the ultimate engine for AAA games, so it's designed to support large-scale development. Currently, a team of about 100 people is working on it.
Last, but not least, Tago-san talked briefly about the development progress of Project Awakening (which was originally showcased in 2016 and then again in 2018 and is still a working title). He mentions that unfortunately Cygames hasn't been able to share new information for a long time, but the visuals have evolved considerably since the latest reveal. Not only gamers, but also other developers ask him about the progress, so he hopes to create something that will meet their expectations and deliver it as soon as possible.

Awesome. I feared that this game was cancelled/has died like Deep Down.

The trailer looks so god damn good

I hope we eventually see what the actual retail game experience will be like.

As time goes on and new, more visually impressive AAA games are released this will look less and less impressive than the initial impression.

I understand taking neccessary time, but waiting too long can also be detrimental.

I'm not totally convinced cy games can handle big console projects. Both this and gran blue fantasy relink impressed at reveal but both seem to be facing development problems

Cy Games seems like a bunch of hot air when it comes to console games.

I'll care when one of these big projects from them actually comes out.

There was another intrrview from some years ago that made the project sound very ambitious not only in terms of graphics but also in terms of gameplay and online systems.
It's definitely interesting that they are developing the engine and game simultaneously but the number of people currenty working on it (100) seems too low for a project like this. Hopefully they will hire more people later on.

Sounds like it's 100 people working on just the engine from the quote, not necessarily on the game.

But yeah I wouldn't expect this to come out for a long time. Apparently ever since Cygames moved development of Granblue Fantasy back to in-house and parted ways with Platinum Games, the Project Awakening guys ended up going moving over to finish Granblue.

I liked the trailer at the time, but I wish developers would stop announcing games prematurely, especially when they need at least 5 years or so to finish it.

It kinda feels like the trailer was made just to get the attention of potential investors, and that the "game" doesn't even exist.
Honestly, nothing about that trailer seemed 'PS4 era' to me. Looked like a 'PS5 era' game, through and through. And considering the devs claiming they want this to take advantage of the current era tech ... yeah, this was a next-gen game which was indeed, revealed way too soon.

Maybe, maybe not
