Project Scorpio to be shown off next week according to Jez C... (READ MOD POST)

What do you think happens in the PC space where it's basically all digital in most markets? You hear them crying?

correct me if I'm wrong but those texture packs are usually optional, also folks that game primarily on PC are obviously more desensitized and used to it than people that primarily game on consoles

look i'm not saying its the end of the world. just saying I hope Microsoft is aware of the potential issue and handles it accordingly

Scorpio's audience will be. This isn't (at present) a mainstream console. It's for enthusiasts.

Down the line, when 40GB (lol) patches become the norm, it'll be fine for everyone.

I dunno there are a several reasons why 40gb patches are troublesome (storage space, bandwidth caps, etc.). All of those don't necessarily become non-issues if you're an "enthusiast"

Those questioning Sneakers on the marketing deals need only look back to current gen GTA V and Diablo 3 E3 reveals. Acti/Blizzard wouldn't even acknowledge Xbox One D3 til August.
Sony pays good money, MS gonna need a sweet loophole to be using RDR2 and Scorpio in the same sentence.

Sorry pal, not even Sonys "good money" is going to get them a deal like that from Rockstar.

Yeah I still have the 500 GB HDD and it's already a pain in the ass, I often need to cancel games to make space for the new ones. They definitely need a solution.

Yeah, I really hope they don't repeat another "Halo 5" scenario.... I think that thing is taking over more than 90 GB of space right now...

Bandwidth caps sure. Storage, I don't know. The Xbox has had expandable storage for a while. Heck if you're crazy and have two systems you still only need to download the content once, to a USB drive of course.

EvB = the xbox BC title insider i believe.

Oh OK, that's cool! And I am assuming he had the BC titles right most of the time?

Exactly. If MS just wants to say it will be native 4K on their system, I'm sure they can.

Hasn't Sony had deals with Rockstar ever since RDR? I think MS only had GTA IV timed DLC exclusivity and from RDR to MP3 and GTA V it was all Sony, right?

i believe his track record is 100% with BC titles. anyone from that thread can correct me.

Well sony used to have deals with R☆ in the ps2 era. By the 360 era it was ms who had deals with R☆ but it was only gta 4 dlc. Gta 5 marketing was sony and it looks like it's carrying forward with timed exclusive content + marketing with rdr2

Totally true. But most enthusiasts will typically have faster internet connections on aggregate. Not saying all, just saying most.

no one is arguing that. I think everyone pretty much agrees that the actual content that results from these deals are mostly horse shit
A lot of the Playstation exclusive destiny content was more or less fluff, in the end. I'm sure some folks like that psion flayer strike, but it's not like we were massively missing out on Xbox by not having it for a year.

To me, the biggest advantages with the scorpio will come in its future-proofing for the inevitable next xbox (i.e. when it will become the lcd). That is because I see them going down the iterative road for a while.
And let's not forget the PC in all of this - whether it's a title that's already targetting PC, where Scorpio and PC become highest common denominators... Or MS' push of XPA getting traction so these traditionally console-only games start also targetting PC.

Witcher 3 being on that list gives me pause as well

Unless this list takes into account the rumored games with Dynamic resolution scale all the way up to 4K rumor that Jez floated around.

Also at a past Build Conference Phil showed off a UWP converter that converted the Witcher 3 from a 32 app to a UWP app so maybe that has something to do with it?

We have compiled a list of all the games you might need for a 4K upgrade for the Xbox Scorpio. Please note that this list is not official and has been officially approved for a 4K Xbox Scorpio upgrade except for a few exceptions. In addition, the list is not complete and could already be much bigger in the E3 2017. For a first overview, however, it should still be enough.

Note: The list consists of UWP, Play Anywhere, PS4 Pro multiplatform, and exclusive games.

My god. It's beautiful.

Edit: Ok if The Witcher 3 is on there it might be BS. I believe CDPR has said definitively that they won't.

Why not? I am sure Witcher 3 on Xbox One uses dynamic resolution, and those games will be able to achieve 4K on Scorpio as Microsoft said.

Nailed it. This is exactly what I think Microsoft are doing.

Damn that's good to hear. Still makes me wonder why DF recently claimed it was Jaguar though.

Oh snap, even GTA V on that list? Many great games. Damn good list if true, hopefully on day one. I don't speak German but I assume it's about 4K patches or will Scorpio do this automatically?

Well I do recall a report recently that said dynamic resolution games would automatically scale to 4K or something like that and Witcher 3 has a dynamic resolution doesn't it?

When?

No way. No fucking way.

What's this site?

one of the biggest (or maybe the biggest?) german xbox site
and as mentioned before, this is a list of games with dynamic resolution, so it's possible they will upscale to 4k without any (major) change and update

they made possibly / likely no Zen, but still Jaguar out of this:
We acknowledge that developers may not wish to spend all of the additional GPU resource of Project Scorpio on resolution, and this is not mandated. To make the best games possible, developers will inevitably spend GPU resource on other quality improvements such as higher fidelity shadows, reflections, texture filtering, and longer draw distances. Another option developers might consider is frame rate upscaling—running graphics at 60 Hz but the CPU at 30 Hz and interpolating animation. Developers should leverage the additional GPU resource of Project Scorpio for whatever benefits their title the most.
