Pros and cons of Sony's launch hardware

After the recent firmware security hole with PSP, I was thinking about the trade-offs in Sony launch hardware... kind of tongue-in-cheek thread, I suppose, but please contribute if you can think of anything:

PS
Pros: Easy swap disc trick
Cons: Overheating laser unit

PS2
Pros: Multi-region DVD, no Macrovision
Cons: Broken memory card, no internal HDD spot

PSP
Pros: Runs homebrew code off memory stick
Cons: Dodgy square button

the playstation had a separate s-video port at japanese launch, so you could use your own cables. i think they eventually got rid of the rca jacks and the serial port too.

that was fixed I think.

Dynasty Warriors PSP agrees.

My launch Playstation is still alive and working well. But after a year I had to set it on its side to play games! :lol I bet this is where Sony got the idea of making PS2 a verticle standing unit as well! :D

Umm, yeah, but it's still present in early hardware... which is what this thread is about.

Yeah but for those of us living in NA who bought NA PSP it is a non issue.

You can add about 30 to the list of PSP cons.

I had to return 3 PSP units to get one that satisfied me (still has minor flaws). I had to deal with broken L and R buttons, bubbles under my screen, a broken triangle button, a MISSING MEMORY STICK DOOR, and a UMD door that wouldn't spring open.

Sony isn't known for hardware quality. It's like an incredibly hot woman but later you find out that she has herpes as you start to play around with her.

So DS is a incredibly old looking woman that you grow tired of since she has little to offer?

Nah, the DS has its flaws, but it's getting younger by the day.

I have both portables, love both portables, but I can accept that the PSP has given me a few fits with its hardware flaws. The software, however, is divine.

Very true. This is exactly why Sony will really have to step up the quality control for PS3 or esle I'm out. Being forced to buy more than one console because of faulty hardware is not the way to make me a loyal customer.
