Protesting the Inauguration of Donald Trump

What are people protesting? The Democratic process of our election? Like Obama said, pick up a damn clip board and do something about it. He's prob so tired of people's shit..

"Like Obama said...!" Is going to be the new "BE MORE LIKE MLK!" Bullshit whites and racists love to throw to black people to shut them down eh?

Among other things, yeah.

If people ask what he's done before he's even president...

- almost all of his cabinet appointees are unqualified, blatant racists, have no idea what seat they're joining, and in some cases actively want to destroy the areas they are being asked to lead because it benefits their businesses. His cabinet is looking to be incredibly incompetent/irresponsible at BEST, and a cesspool of corruption/conflicts of interest at worst.
- he has already made a mountain of conflict of interest issues and nepotism violations.
- he wants to make climate change denial official U.S. policy.
- he is anti-vaccination and will propagate the anti-vaccination bullshit through the government.
- he is looking to destroy the ACA as soon as possible.
- he wants to be "unpredictable" with nukes.
- he regularly shills for Russian interests and constantly praises Putin, even in the midst of treachery accusations. This is the ONLY person he actually consistently praises besides himself.
- he is looking into ways to create a Muslim registry.
- he is asking for lists of government workers who worked to support things that he doesn't like, such as environmental researchers. This is unprecedented and is most likely to find a list of people to fire, discredit or otherwise harm once he takes office.
- he wants to build the wall with taxpayer money.
- he is starting Twitter fights with other countries and harming public relations.
- he has publicly attacked or shilled for various companies, directly affecting the market with wild tweeting. He also publicly tries to bully companies into changing their plans in his interests, with threats to tax them heavily if they don't.

You guys would still be drinking tea and eating scones if your forefathers shared the attitudes of some of the jokers in this thread.

I think we have enough Devil's advocates in here. Everybody defending Trump is a devil's advocate seeing as how I have yet to see anybody admit they support Trump or his policies, it's always " I don't even like Trump, but" followed by protesting is useless, respect the office, but had Hillary won, go volunteer, yadda ydda yadda...

You're better off volunteering is one of the worst examples of this. Stop posting on gaf then, you're wasting your time when you could be saving the world. All of it, what it comes down to is trying to shutdown the conversation while trying to come off as if you're better than it all. And it's usually from people that's don't live in the US which I still can't quite figure out why other than this is entertainment to them, or they secretly want the US to fall damn hard.

Man, GAF needs to take a deep breath.

Please read my first post. That is my opinion, which I assume you agree with. My second post, is a devil's advocate position. I don't agree with it, hence words like could and my (), but that doesn't mean it couldn't add to discussion when stated.

No. Stop with this shit. Your post history tells everyone what you're fucking doing. You have been in this thread since the fucking beggining saying that protesting is not "American" or part of a "democracy". You literally haven't opened a goddamn history book in your entire life. You try to dissuade people from using their basic democratic goddamn rights.

Shit just let me get this over with

Go the fuck away. You are not offering "different opinions". You are supporting a goddamn fascist. Own your goddamn shit.

How the hell is this guy still around? Is it because bish is gone?

I'm as calm as I can be considering Donald Trump is about to be president.

But I stand by what I said about this thread having too many devil's advocates. My post wasn't directed at just you specifically, but the thread over all. I chose your post because you mentioned the words devil's advocate and used an example that particularly frustrated me with "go volunteer" which actually was originally brought up in a poor way by another poster. I probably should have quoted them instead of you.

Sorry if it came across as an attack on your personally.

Thank you for the cordial reply. I appreciate that. It's all good.

Hahaha, you actually spent energy trawling my posts, like a pathetic stalker... You forgot to mention that I am a Russian paid troll too.

The thread is open to everyone, understand?

If you're not paid, that makes your stances even more pathetic.

Oh stop it with the whole "if you aren't with me, you're clearly a troll/conservative" rhetoric. You can't discuss anything on Gaf anymore without being labeled as such. These witch hunts have got to stop. The obvious trolls sure but, not everyone who doesn't share your view is a troll.

Can we stop it with not reading someone's post but making an argument that implies that the poster is arguing an absolute? It's like you didn't even take the time to read my post that you quoted. Since you are saying that I argued that someone is either a troll or a conservative, when I clearly also mentioned that there are non-US posters that do not have context.

But feel free to continue with the "GAF needs to stop doing x thing"

can men go to women's marches

Yes, and for future reference; white people can march with black people to show their support for justice reform and civil rights, straight cis-gender people can march with the LGBTQ to show that they support their rights to be who they are and marry who they wish, Atheists, Christians, Buddhists, and other religions can march with Muslims who march to show that they are not terrorist and they deserve to be treated with respect and equality.

And let me just say, if any of you are truly allies, now is the time to show your support and fight along side these communities that need it the most. Not just by saying that you support them and donating them a bit of cash (though that does help), but by also standing by their side and protest, march, and fight.

Don't worry, I copy pasted the list mostly from other people that went through the work for it. Not that i needed to work much anyhow, I could just link to your post history and everyone could see the bullshit you insist on spouting everywhere on the very first page.

You are defending and supporting a fascist bigot. Own it the fuck up already. Stop trying to deflet and dissuade people. The jig is up.

It's important to know who you are dealing with these days.

Think of it like investing a little energy upfront to save everyone's energy later. It's clear you're pushing an agenda.

It is good people do these things. Next time you spout your usual bullshit it will save people time from engaging with trolls.

Wow. No need to waste time on him...
Added to ignore list

LOL at the fucking Trump supporters here. Please leave.

Actually, I don't mind engaging with Trump supporters, if they want to actually be genuine about it. Let's hear why they support the man that is Donald Trump or at the very least some of the things he wants to do. Keep in mind that almost half of the country that voted did so for him. So millions upon millions seem to find something they like in him.

Some are honest about it, they explain how they hate what the Democratic party has become and see Trump as a way, in their minds, to screw with the system a little bit. I don't agree with it, but again, at least they are being genuine.

To those saying don't protest because he was democratically elected: the protests aren't about his election. That part is over. Now the protests are about resisting the terrible policies his party and administration wants to subject Americans to, and speaking out against a man with authoritarian tendencies.

Protest can bring people together and build the coalitions that will remove these people from office during elections. It is not a useless act.

if everybody protested by not watching TV every day the world would be a better place

do your thing, RPGCrazied. keep it up all year. CNN doesn't deserve anyone's time today, tomorrow, or any day ever.

This is true too. Donald Trump is already president. Any protesting is after the fact already. I mean sure, there is the formality left but it is nonetheless done. I want Trump to know from the very moment he steps foot in the office, he's going to half to answer to more than half of the country that did not vote for him. We are the majority.

Joining the Women's March this Saturday because I feel it is my responsibility as a human being living in the 21s century. And I'm right by D.C. Was originally hoping to avoid going to D.C. but this would sit too heavy on my conscience if I didn't go out there and show support in person.

I don't even necessarily want them to leave. I'd just like them to stop being disingenuous. They write with such "concern" over democratic norms being upheld and wishing for an idyllic fantasy of a gracious transition of power taking place with an American population universally saying "good luck we're all rooting for you".

Their concerns are a mask for the fact that they don't want to confront how loathed their guy is by so many and it angers them to have the slimmest margins of Trump's win called out.

They don't care about the general idea of a presidential inauguration being protested. They only care about Trump's inauguration being protested.

I hear you. Personally i lost all desire to engage in a civil conversation with right wingers/GOPers/Republicans/alt-rights/Gamergaters/Trump supporters/Fox news watchers/People living in Kentucky a LONG LONG time ago.

It is just not worth it, I understand that some of them may have some legit concerns and complaints. However, all sympathy goes out the window once you hear them elaborate and after remembering the person they have chosen to "fix" their issues.

Man, this thread went off the rails quick. Suppose this is something we're going to have to get used to so long as people can't A) ignore trolls or B) shut them down quickly with a simple "I'm protesting against Trump's policies/conduct/rhetoric and not the result of an election from two months ago".

I don't even necessarily want them to leave. I'd just like them to stop being disingenuous.
This will never happen. Because they're not interested in having that conversation. Their hero is disingenuous so they emulate his behavior.
Furthermore, this isn't the thread to open that dialogue in. It's about engaging people on where and how they can protest the Trump administration and its policies.

Please share your impressions of the Washington march first-hand later this weekend. Hope to see pictures in this thread as well.

To those on GAF who will be attending marches and protests: be safe, know your rights, and I support you.

To those on GAF who are protesting in other peaceful forms: I support you.

To those on GAF who are questioning why someone would protest, or the usefulness of it: please reconsider from a more empathetic position. Please understand where people are coming from, and that this is how our voices are heard.

I wish I could be at one of the marches this weekend. Unfortunately I'm currently unable to, so I will also be avoiding any live broadcasts of the inauguration. I'll be encouraging my friends to do the same. I've spoken out pretty vocally against Trump for months, and will continue to do so.

I have too many friends and loved ones who fall within the targets of his ignorance. There are too many people I know that are upset, nervous, and scared for his presidency. We will all feel the effects, and in 30 years which side of history will you be able to say you were on?

To anyone who ends up on the wrong side of a baton...

"I am going to remain silent. I would like to see a lawyer."

"I am going to remain silent. I would like to see a lawyer."

I really can't stress that enough. Anything you say WILL be used against you. You don't have to be a dick about it, but for the love of everything just be quiet.

If you are given the option to Post and Forfeit, you pay a fine, the charges are dropped, you do not admit guilt, but an arrest DOES show up on your record. Please keep this in mind and be safe.

Protests are great. Do them if you have the time/means. It is your right.

Just don't resort to violence. Don't let instigators get to you. And make sure to vote at every opportunity. Local, midterms, and general elections.
