Protests against Trump in NYC and other cities

Yes it is. It's a fucking ludicrous outdated concept that certain citizens are worth more than others. Every vote should be equal.

In each state everyone's vote is equal. Why should the biggest population areas get to control the politics of the whole country. The electoral college means that CA doesn't get to dictate who PA elects. It basically gives each state the vote that they feel is best for their state. If people really want to effect things they should focus on getting liberal populations to move to more conservative areas and not just gather in single places. It sucks I wish Hillary had won as well.

Man, I really hope the entirety of Canada is disgusted, it feels like anything is possible now. You've got a Conservative leadership candidate literally calling Trump a great example.

And in doing so cost the conservatives the next election years in advance.

We have our pieces of shit, they are the VAST minority of the country. The Conservatives here had to play "Well we're just a little less left" for years to ever get power. And she just said she likes Trump, which is not what Canada goes for. They will lose a tonne of their base for that one comment, it's going to cost that party in the long run.

We're a very liberal country at our core. Stephen Harper sucked but until he blew it he played the "I'm MOSTLY a leftist, with some conservative traditional values!". Then at the end he blew it and went all right. It took our right wing years to convince people they weren't right wing and they forgot really quickly how they ever took power for a few years.

Protesting is all fine and dandy, but where were these people last night when HALF OF AMERICA didn't vote?

59 million people voted for Hillary. It's pretty presumptuous to say that these people might not be the ones who voted. Like there is no point in even bringing it up because we can't know it.

I do know about the Tea Party Movement. The issue is the timing of this situation. Emotions are at an all time high and I don't believe escalation is the right answer in my opinion.

People like you will never get it. Escalation is the only solution. It's how Trump did what he did.

hopefully, this will give pause to his plan to repeal every executive order Obama made like DACA

Highly doubt it. If anything, it'll energize his zealots more and give him more of a reason to do so.

Not that I'm against this, mind. If I lived anywhere near one of these cities, I'd be protesting.

How about protecting the country from a nominee campaigning in only NY and California and winning all the time?

How about where people living having nothing to do with who rules over them? Winning only California and New York would not win it for the candidate anyway.

Democracy is fine until it doesn't go my way 🙄

Trying to understand what people think this will accomplish
Yeah I don't get it.
If Hillary won and 16 hours later Republicans filled the streets protesting I know exactly how this thread would look.
Again I voted Hillary and want to vomit over her loss.

Isn't protesting the best course of action right now? Protesting and getting the attention of your EC representatives?

Wasn't the EC originally intended to prevent people like Trump? If your local representatives are red, especially if you live in a swing state, try to find a way to reach out to them so that they can switch. Call upon them to do what they were made for.

Yeah I don't get it.

I will repeat myself: AMERICA NEEDS TO SHOW THE WORLD THAT IT IS BETTER THAN A PUSSY GRABBING, RACIST DEMAGOGUE.

What its doing is setting a tone. One of anger that will hopefully hopefully fuel the fucking Democrats to finally for once in their goddamned lives turn out for the fucking midterm elections in 2018

..............

This is our only recourse now. THEY CONTROL THE ENTIRE FUCKING GOVERNMENT.

Sadly it will come to nothing. Just as many people elected him and the US Army is too powerful for a revolution to occur. He is a shitty person but the protesting is going to achieve basically nothing.

What its doing is setting a tone. One of anger that will hopefully hopefully fuel the fucking Democrats to finally for once in their goddamned lives turn out for the fucking midterm elections in 2018

That would require the Democrats to not be fucking worthless. They should have had an actual primary instead of just saying it was Hillary's turn. It would have at least shown that they were pretty weak in some key areas.

An electoral college win is of course legitimate. It should be—and has been—treated as legitimate victory. It is still worth pointing out that despite winning the electoral college, Trump lost the popular vote. More people in the USA wanted Hillary as president. Expect televised unrest for at least a few weeks.

Why do rural areas get disproportionately large influence over the cities that subsidize their existence? Why do the cities have to bend to the will of the people who depend on them?

The same people who labeled Trump as dangerous/idiot for not wanting to accept the eventual election results..

It saddens me that you fail to grasp the difference between:
Citizens protesting.
Presidential Nominee threatening to protest if he loses.

Yeah I don't get it.

Turn the other cheek eh? Gosh thats what the Republicans did for 8 years right, every single thing Obama proposed was passed right? I'm sure that Talk Radio was brimming full of support for the Legitimacy of Barrack Obama.

The same people who labeled Trump as dangerous/idiot for not wanting to accept the eventual election results..

He's a "politician" who has no faith in the very system he used to get here. They are people calling out the election for being the farce that it was.

As someone using that system, he has a responsibility to accept the will of the people. And we have the right to "tell it like it is."

..............

This is our only recourse now. THEY CONTROL THE ENTIRE FUCKING GOVERNMENT.

Also this.

Damnit would've said fuck it and gone to the SF protests after work today if I had known. Was so quiet and felt like crap all day with the loss

What are other ways to get more involved (particularly in the Bay Area)? Are there sites that announce this kind of thing?

I really understand wanting to give the benefit of the doubt, and giving Trump a chance... but I've already seen the rationalization start to happen last night. People normalize all the horrible shit he's said and done in the name of trying to 'start off' on the right foot.

It's already started, and he's the one who started it by saying and doing the things he's done with a shit eating grin on his face. He's alienated us and he's proud of it.

Do I hope he does a good job, and isn't as bad as he's given reason to believe he will be? Fuck yes I do. But that doesn't mean I have to give him shit. That's a politician's job to play nice with him. If he wants citizens to respect him, he's got to earn that respect and not attack half the electorate. Until then, I'll be either supporting or part of any movement against him.

This. So much this
