PS Now - 1 Month Membership for $1 to new subscribers - Ends 3/29 (NA only)

I just subscribed and I'm actually surprised at the selection. They have almost all first-party games, hundreds of PS3 games.

God of War series, Bloodborne, TLOU, Metal Gear Solid series, Darksiders series, Bioshock series, JRPGs and Japanese games.

Lots of Bethesda (Dishonored 2, Prey, Rage 2, Wolfenstein, Doom, Evil Within, ESO, Fallout 4 etc).

A pity this service is not getting much attention.
Paying $1 to play tons of games over the next month. Not even supporting the devs buying the games.

It will certainly devalue some games.
It doesn't. You Americans very rich and highly privileged people who can afford 60 and 70$ games with ease. Im not American, i live in developing country. Game pass type deals are blessing for people like me who almost quit gaming coz i couldn't afford to buy full priced games. Only fool will criticize dollar deals of PSNow and Game pass.

This is good for gamers

I personally would not recommend subscribing even despite this $1 trial. It's meant to sucker you in and trap you into the payment plan.
I disagree but I can appreciate you being consistent and treating all sub services the same way.

Now this post on the other hand...

If one could local run the back catalogue this could work well as a virtual console. Otherwise stick it where the sun don't shine.

PS Now is well worth checking out for this price. I got it for £20 for a year, and it's been well worth it. I wouldnt pay much more for it than that, as it's definitely a secondary service to Plus, but you're missing out if you have a PlayStation and don't at least check out this £1 thing.

Now if they can just stop the streamed games looking like shit.

That's $1 too much. Streaming is horrible. Combine PS+ and Now into one service and remove stream only titles. Everything should be downloaded to the console.

NO! I will NOT support streaming games. I will resist that baloney with every fiber of my being until I have no choice. And by then, I will (hopefully) be dead of old age (currently 53) before that becomes the only way to play games. No. Just no......well, maybe if they make if absolutely free, which we all know will NEVER happen. So NO!

Oof, this thread is filled with the usual GP cultists/evangelists making all the same dumb jokes one after the other and liking each other posts. So childish and Insecure.

Quick go make another GP praise thread it's been 15 mins since the last one. I'm sure a video or a blog popped up somewhere with the good news.
Triggered lol. I personally think its funny. Your getting the whole list of comments every gamepass thread gets

- $1 is not sustainable
- Sony numbers are only decent because of the $1 deal. What about when they end
- $1 every month forever... No wonder people rave about the service
- PLEASE don't subscribe, your not supporting the devs
- why would you wanna buy this service to RENT games
- I don't like a company curating games for me
- You don't own anything!!
- This is bad for the industry, will cause a dip in quality.... Please don't sub

I could go on... But you get the gist. You've have one thread of this, now imagine it in every thread.

And you feel that urge to come to each of these threads and try very hard to undermine the value of gamepass and bragging how cheaply you are getting some of these games (why so cheap? Don't you want to support devs a bit more?), also it will be hard day for you when likes of outriders, stalker 2 etc release on gamepass day 1, you will be scouring the internet to find the best deals to try to show gamepass crowd that there is no value in it.

I am subscribed to gamepass since day one, always on full price monthly billing. still buy games, sometimes ones that are on gamepass. i even preorder games when I like trailers and have got some trust in devs. I definitely don't spend my days looking for the cheapest option if I want to buy a game.

I don't think this will stack like GamePass did.

Fuck the all digital/streaming future, wouldn't try this for free.

You have 2 options.
Put people on ignore or report.

This tit for tat bullshit makes you cunts look very childish because we have half of these threads filled with console warrior shit instead of people discussing the value of these services.

'OH but you have this in every game pass thread'. Grow the fuck up.

As is typical for Sony the UK has got fuck all in terms of a promotion. However Game (dickheads, I know) have got 12 months for £32. This service isn't for me, and I believe Sony are half-hearting it. But sharing in case anyone is interested.

Also *please grow the fuck up waaahhh

Take your own advice. I'm also sick of this console warrior bullshit but I've seen so many PS fans so triggered by gamepass threads and spreading FUD., that it's funny hearing it the other way around.

If PS now is anywhere near gamepass then $1 is a steal for the amount of games you can play.

Ps now needsa complete revamp, but sony are making too much money they don't care,

The service is getting a revamp but Sony were not prepared to discuss it late last year as their focus was on the PS5 launch. It's anyone's guess when they'll be ready to discuss it, my hope is by this Summer.

In the meantime it's a service with access to about 850 games so it's worth checking out using this promo for anyone who is curious.

The PS2 games on the service can be downloaded, if that's what you're looking for. It might be a long time before you see them extend this luxury to PS3 games.

Does it work with Xbox controllers on PC without needing any workarounds?

From what I have heard, the PS Now client does recognize Xinput, so it should work for games that don't require distinctive features of DualShock 3/DualShock 4 like the motion sensor or touch pad.

I was going to hold off on Now until I've worked through more of the other stuff I have piled up, but why not for $1.
There has been a push lately to try and get Sony to add the PS3/Vita back catalog that's already on the PSN to Now.

Absolutely this.

Imagine having so little going on in your life that you feel the need to troll threads with the excuse of 'it happens in all of ours', school yard stuff.

Embarrassing.

Now, why would people support this still when the fanboys claim that services like PS Now and Gamepass are ruining the gaming industry and you must spend money to play the game? /s

So long as Sony WorldWide Studio games don't release their games on the service Day 1, they'll be fine. PSNow should remain $60 a year (without promo).

Sony 1st party games release dates should be events on their own. Sony should continue with their AAA high quality games.

I guess I would try it for 1$. I'm just thinking my 30mps download speed won't be good enough. What kind of hdd space does it need on the PS4?

30 Mbps should be fine for streaming if you're wired. PS2 and PS4 games you can download and play locally.

The app itself doesn't really take up any space, downloading games to play locally takes up as much space as they would if you bought them digitally off PSN and downloaded them

Cool, I'll give it a try. Thanks.

It's great that you have both options to stream or download. You can try multiple games quickly by streaming then you go in the menu and just click download if you like them. Very convenient.

Does it have MGS IV yet? Or is it still "impossible"?
I see it on the list. All the series seems to be there.

Yep. Promoting a subscription service is their life mission. Always the same users in all the threads.

Sad.

Biggest issue is availability: PS Now is unavailable in a number of European countries where Game Pass is offered. Strange especially when Europe seems to have better high bandwidth internet connectivity than the US.

My issue is the ps3 game streaming.... ps3 games tend to run barely at 30fps/720p to begin with so adding streaming lag to that on a 4K tv on a ps5 is kinda meh. I am getting it for $1 F it. There are some iconic ps4 franchises I kinda wanna try out again. It's just my backlog is so huge with the ps plus collection.

US is highly competitive because Xbox does well here. Europe is mostly all Sony land, so no need to expand services. Expectation is Europeans will just buy the games for $70.

Speaking from my own personal experience I was able to stream Ratchet and Clank Into the Nexus via Now to my PS4 with no noticeable lag and I finished it. It was a good experience, especially for my first Ratchet game.

I really wouldn't expect much of a revamp of PS Now. It's clear that Sony is doubling down on PS+ instead.

Funny that you mention that game. I played it to completion a few months back through PS Now, and just started playing it again a few days ago. I was mainly streaming to my PC, and (as a veteran Ratchet & Clank fan) yes, I'd say it's still highly playable through streaming.

I'm playing it now because I skipped it on PS3 and it's definitely playable.

What do you mean typical for Sony? There are regular official offers in the UK for PS Now and PS+. Only this week there was a £15 credit for signing up to either service. Before that there was a 25% discount.

Focus on one doesn't preclude focus on the other. PS Plus is the bigger, more widespread service and it could be ready to go for the PS5 launch. We know they have plans for PS Now but don't yet know what it is. Hopefully we'll get more info in the next couple months. At the very least I would hope for more info in May when they do their IR Day presentation to investors.

I think I may get it just to replay MGS4. it's a game I probably beat at least 10 times, but I love it, and it's been at least five years since I've played it and I'm too lazy to hook up my PS3. Plus it's so hard going back that tiny ass controller.

Good points.

As I said earlier in this thread, they'll surely attract some new subscribers for a month with this promotion. It would be optimal for Sony to have a spectacular lineup of games for April. If they're going to announce any major strategic shifts, then it might also be advantageous for them to do so during this period, while these people have active subscriptions. These actions will build excitement, so users are more likely to continue the service, instead of canceling and waiting for the next "deal" to come down the pike.

Strike while the iron is hot.

The only thing that can make PS Now a more appealing service is consistently launching new games on the service, and that's currently what they're doing with PS+, at least to a certain extent. I really can't see them having two services compete with each other. Looking at MS, they're trying their best to make Xbox Live Gold less appealing and move people over to Game Pass.

Indeed, Now would need to further differentiate itself from Plus which is why I think the smart thing to do is roll Now into Plus and raise the price of Plus. Trying to build and maintain 2 separate sub services at 60 dollars a year each makes less sense to me than having one superior sub service at 99 dollars a year, for example.

I think if they rolled Now into Plus, continued to offer day 1 and bigger titles, increased the BC catalog and expanded to more devices for streaming that the majority of the nearly 50 million Plus users would stick around for the added value. Not everyone would be ok with the price increase, but I think it would still be worth it. It gives them a single, simple gateway for customers to get into their ecosystem

Of course an alternative is to further differentiate Now from Plus by adding features like your PSN purchases can be streamed to other devices via Now (well, unless a games publisher opts out of course) and to massively increase the back catalog and offer enhancements to the games via AI upscaling for resolution, FPS, load times and texture quality.

Plenty of ways they could handle this, we'll just have to wait and see.
