Hi from Zone Mode. Just took a few screenshots, haven't fiddled around with any of the filters or blur/focus components, so these are pretty basic shots.

This is the showcase game to wow your friends and put your lady into an breathless fit of erotic fluster. The game is pure goodness. These stills do not do it justice.

vyse answered better than i did. that case is definitely awesome in my opinion.

PS: a friend of mine stated that i would have to subscribe for att 3g service to be able to use the vita at all. he's crazy right. surely you can just turn of the 3g and treat it like a wifi model, right?

Reminds me of the time when a BestBuy employee tried to convince my friend that you need a WoW subscription card to play Starcraft 2 at all :|

Just found it, and I assume I'm late, but maybe it wasn't posted in Gaf:

Mortal Kombat for PS Vita

-60fps
-All PS3 version features and content including DLC characters
-New modes and features tailored for Vita
-There are actually two Challenge Towers in the PS Vita version, and the new one has 150 challenges that are exclusive to PS Vita. A number of those challenges use PS Vita’s hardware features: the touch screen, the accelerometer…
-"reduced some of the polygon counts from the backgrounds and characters, but that screen is so bright, but that screen is so bright, and it’s got such high pixel density" ... "it’s a surprisingly similar experience."
-Regarding touchscreen gameplay : "For example, you can touch your X-ray meter to execute an X-ray attack. For fatalities, you can “slash” the screen with the appropriate inputs — say, away, away, up — to execute the fatality."
-Regarding accelerometer and others : "Over the years we’ve had Test Your Might, Test Your Luck, Test Your Sight…well, we’ve added two completely new ones for PS Vita"
-No PS3-to-PS Vita connectivity
-It’s just called Mortal Kombat (Vitality was a placeholder).

No release date yet? :/

I've been in two minds about the Vita. I want it but I know I probably won't use it that much and, looking at my backlogs for PS3 and 360, I'm trying to be sensible.

However, Wipeout has made my mind up for me. It will be mine.

The launch lineup pretty much the same as the PSP.

Lumines --- Lumines Electronic Symphony
Wipeout --- Wipeout 2048
Hot Shot Golf : Open Tee --- Hot Shot Golf : World Invitation
Ridge Racer --- Ridge Racer
Darkstalkers --- Marvel vs Capcom
Dynasty Warriors --- Dynasty Warriors Next
Ape Escape --- Escape Plan (ok i know i am stretching this)
Some random sports games --- Some random sports games
Some random racing games --- Some random racing games

The only difference is Uncharted. Which probably replaces Metal Gear Acid in terms of brand recognition.

You forgot Gravity Rush, Rayman Origins, Sound Shapes (though I'm not sure that's a launch title), and Army Corps of Hell.

And I have no problem with this, because the PSP launch was awesome IMO for the time.

Does the Vita use Gorilla Glass like the iOS devices? If so I can completely forgo the screen protector.

No Gorilla glass. It is however fairly thick tough plastic. Some guy on YouTube went at a Vita with a sledge hammer and while the entire device actually did quite well, the screen was very sturdy.

I was going to go for the official protector however that Hori "whole front of Vita" one looks better so I'll probably get that.

My experience of G Glass is that while its very good against scratches its not so resilient when the item in question is bounced as it has no flex and just shatters. It's a minor thing considering you shouldn't be dropping a device like that but accidents do happen.

LOL I just rememberd that VITA games have trophy support.

...and is Sound Shapes a launch title? I tried it at the mall when Sony had those VITA booths open to the public, and it was fantastic.

I agree with pretty much all your points. A lot of game journalists seem to be stuck in this bubble where 2 things seem to always come up. One: they think xbox 360 is the best home console experience, so why wouldn't everyone want to jump on that bandwagon at some point. And two: Smart phone gaming is the only type of handheld gaming that matters anymore, and console style games have no place on handhelds, and that the gaming specific handheld market is doomed.

Jeff Gerstmann from giantbomb has often said that he doesn't want that kind of console type game experience on a handheld, especially when it compromises the game to where it doesn't look nearly as good. I think this is where people are not giving the Vita enough credit. It's not like previous handhelds where we'll be getting watered down ports, they're already putting out really great looking versions of current gen games on the Vita. Vita is a really impressive piece of hardware that matches the PS3 really well in terms of presentation. I am also really interested in the prospect of playing some games on my PS3, then taking my save file on the go and playing it on the Vita when I'm not at home. That's a major selling point that I think once implemented more, a lot of hardcore gamers might really get behind.

Exactly, I agree 100%. I own a smart phone. This is how much I game on my smart phone: 0.

I just don't find those types of games appealing to me, and I don't understand the notion that a "console experience" is somehow "wrong" for a handheld, but then these same journalists squee at the thought of Ocarina of Time on the 3DS. Zelda is a console experience, and it's not like games nowadays don't have save points and handhelds don't have sleep modes.

The only thing that I see as a sticking point with the Vita is the price of the software. I think it's too high. I think $40 is asking too much, despite the improved functionality of the Vita. $50 even moreso. I'm hoping that there will be more parity between the prices of games that are available on the PSN. I don't think it's fair to charge $9.99 on PS3 for Dungeon Hunter, for example, and then charge $39.99 for the PSVita version. It should be equal or less.

I know game development isn't cheap, but I thought the whole point of cross platform development was that it broadens the net in terms of bringing in profit. I own Dungeon Hunter on my PS3. I have no desire to spend $39.99 for it on the Vita. But if it were $9.99, I probably would.

Pricing needs to be balanced big time for the machine, but we'll see, as it's still early days yet, and the machine hasn't even launched here in the West yet.

EDIT - To Anabuhabkus, you'd be surprised at how many people that are gamers in the world have long commutes to work. I have a good hour commute to work on the bus, and usually a good hour to hour and a half commute home on the same bus (traffic in Los Angeles is horrid). Usually, I find myself just listening to my music or reading. Being able to play an Uncharted, or a God of War, or a Monster Hunter during that time would be perfect for me. The market is huge. There are a lot of different tastes out there. I don't feel like my or other's preferences should go ignored because of the smart phone craze. Also, the control schemes of anything but the simplest of iOS and Android apps are horrid. Precise, console tight controls are a must for me.

Yes, I can get my console fix at home, but I want my console fix on the go as well. Is it really that hard for some people to understand that not everyone is in love with short, insubstantial, casual gaming sessions?

Wow, after seeing all These screens and this super hyped wipeout review, I'm definately getting wipeout 2048 on launch and it's only $30, it's just too much value and the music, zone mode, the tracks are wider, multiple paths, speed! Also I wonder if the trophies on this game are just as hard a wipeout hd.

Are there any updated gameplay videos of Lumines? Gotta see it.

Is it really that hard for some people to understand that not everyone is in love with short, insubstantial, casual gaming sessions?

I think what some people are saying is that more and more people are enjoying the short, casual gaming sessions on smart phones and tablets (particularly iOS). The console experience is certainly not going away any time soon, but it could be argued that dedicated machines are at least in danger of becoming niche platforms. Only time will tell, either way.

I havent bought a handheld since hte DS Lite but the vita really is looking good. Im thinking of picking one up on Monday here in Dubai. I can get Uncharted and UMVC3 which is fine at first.

in terms of games on the PSN store - can i just use my credit card and buy these online with the wifi mode or do you have to get points like XBLA?

Also - what are the great games in the last 2-3 years on PSN store that i can get on the VITA, in particular, RPGs etc that i can pick up.

When i get one, do i sign in with my same account as used on mY PS3 or do i set up a different one?

Its the same one.

And you can use buy games with your CC. I don't see why you couldn't buy and download them directly through the Vita (through wifi only) but I'm not 100% sure on that. It'd be utterly insane if it wasn't obviously.

Reminds me though, can you buy 3G time through the PSN store itself? Or is it only directly through AT&T?

I don't think I could be any more hyped for a game. I mean, seriously.
What all filters can you choose from just out of curiosity?

Cheers man - where is a good list of games i can download when i get the Vita? Also, will all the games be in japanese because ill obv be getting the the Japanese Vita at the start..

can i change regions when the new ones open up?

And a wildcard approaches, my thread making rights are long been revoked-

http://www.gamepur.com/news/6835-ps...sylum-remote-play-thanks-custom-firmware.html

Oops, edit - pretty much a certain site is claiming with a hacked PS3 firmware you can play games like Batman, Red Dead, Mortal Kombat.
I thought the Vita could play any PS3 title via remote play already. Is that not the case? =|
I'm hoping it's 30 on PSN. At 40 retail it's destined to bomb, and if I wasn't such a huge fan of it, I'd wait for the inevitable quick drop to 19.99.
Yeah, I agree with this. Lumines is a superb game, but in the end it is just a puzzle game. One that has been released on a billion other platforms before, and at a much lower cost. Will it really be so different from Lumins LIVE or Lumines Supernova? Both were $15. (I'm waiting for it to drop to ~$20.)

Same. I was really hoping this wouldn't be 40, but I just can't help but buy it anyway. I'm gonna hate myself when it is inevitably 20 dollars later this year (and then when its on Ios for 5-10 next year).

Now really... is the same level of AA applied in-game? I've heard some people saying that the game is jaggy, others saying that there's a nice amount of AA... I need the truth!

Have you tried the current iPhone Lumines game? I own every version of the game except the PS2 title, but it doesn't get worse than trying to be accurate and speedy with your finger on glass. The skins are really quite bad as well. My favorite version is on XBL since it has a larger selection of new skins than any other edition, with the PS3 version a close second.

I tried the ios one just recently and hated it( this was to shut up a friend who was telling me i shouldn't buy a Vita for Lumines because i can just play it on my phone), that was kinda just an aside to what ubisoft has said about putting their handheld stuff on ios to make more money.
