PS2 -- Component or S-video?

Got an HDTV, and regular old A/V cables make my PS2 games look terrible.

What I'm wondering is whether my PS2 will look better with S-video or component? I've heard that component cables aren't the most flattering with the PS2, but I'd like to hear from some people as opposed to random quotes I've seen on Lik-Sang and Gamestop.

I have monster component cable connected to my HDTV. I haven't really tried out S-video on it - but I find it noticibley sharper to certain degree.

Since some of the games do support 480p and up - I think if you can afford, go with component.

I've used both. First I had S-video cables, then component, but the wires came apart, so now I use the S-video cables again. I like the component cables a lot better, but both work just fine. I definately suggest spending the money on PS2 Monster Cables whatever way you go, they make a big difference.

I've never noticed a sharpness difference, but thee's a clear colour advantage of component over S-video, probably because it splits to the signal into R,B and G.

Probably I used the S-video on CRT and Component on HDTV. I haven't used S-video on my HDTV, so probably that could be the reason.

So I should just pick up PS2 component cables then? I've been playing DDS2 all day, and it looks really bad with plain A/V cables on my new TV... hopefully I can find some tonight. When I picked up component cables for my DVD player and Xbox, I couldn't find any for the PS2... any store suggestions?

Go with component for sure. That's the only way to get progressive scan on your HDTV, and you can get it on both games that support it, and movie DVDs. Most better looking games on PS2 made lately offer 480p output, so you won't regret a bit more expensive cable.

Component is a requirement for any games that display 480P (Resident Evil 4, Gran Turismo 4, etc.).

QFT

This applies not only to games, but for any other HD display (like DVDs)

Best Buy and Circuit City are good places to look for it. If you have a Media Play near you, they might have it (the one by me always does, and it was on sale for a while, as well).

Most PS2 games look like complete crap on hdtvs. I dont think cables will solve the problem.

Yeah, some games look pretty bad, but overall they look better. And besides, you'll want the cables for the few really good games that are 480p like God of War.

What are some other games that take advantage of 480p? I've already played through GoW, and RE4 is on my Gamecube, so I won't be buying that.

Going back and playing the Xbox games with 480p has been a blast today.

I have component cables, but I use S-video because I find component makes PS2 games look like complete ass. The jaggies and blurry textures become really obvious on any games not designed to take advantage of the component, which is most of them.

I dont even hook up my ps2 to my hdtv for this reason. The image quality is unbareable.
