PS2 games that a 6year old would enjoy.

I recently watched my 6 year old niece over the weekend and she wanted to play videogames... any idea what games on the PS2 would be good and easy for a kid to play? I have a gamecube and even though it gets labelled as a kid friendly console, I did not see any games at BlockBuster video that she could have fun playing. Do you guys have any ideas??

No Joke, the kids love the GTA3 series.
I let one of my nephews (dunno which one) drive a taxi around in GTA3.

Since he didn't seem to notice the red tire streak when he ran over a hooker it was all right.

Can't do this with SA though. If you do, the sound better be muted and you're still going to see people shooting at you and cops.

Also Katamari.

My oldest niece (6) can't pronounce it, but she called me up one day and said she was looking forward to visiting and "rolling that ball of garbage" again.

Kids shouldn't be playing GTA period.

Correct.
However, in a pinch, if a knowledgable gamer were to put the character in a car, and let the child simply drive around, no harm can really be done.

As long as the gamer stays around to monitor what's on-screen, switch cars when needed, and shut it down if something objectionable comes up, then it should be fine.

I mean, you're not going to run over too many people unless you are already aiming for them.

Are you kidding? Mario Kart, Wario Ware and Mario Party are made for everyone. Everyone.

Disney's Stitch: Experiment 626. A great game for kids... Lots of prompting and stuff to do, but still a fun game with shades of Bionic Commando and Pilot Wings at times. Plus, I produced and designed it, so it must be good :D ! You can pick it up new for $19.95 at wallmart or target.

i don't think kids could even play GTA3 if they wanted too, the driving controls aren't intuitive, i bet they wouldn't be able to get beyond the first city block before getting to the "questionable content"

My nieces, now 8 and 12 respectively, are huge fans of GTA.

While they occasionally will do horrible things like run people over and jack cars, like others have said, they mainly just love to drive different cars around the city. They love the radio stations.

This is part of the universal appeal of GTA. You don't have to play the game like a vicous criminal in order to enjoy it. Driving or flying around the city is just a lot of fun, because you have the radio on, and the streets and traffic are very immersive.

The GTA series gets a bad rap in the media. People make it out to be a hooker murdering/cop killing game. And, by all means, you can play it that way if you like. But - you can just drive around being pretty tame and have a great time. The media doesn't like to admit this.

THANK YOU! Finally, someone else who understands...

I never played the game with the intent of killing tons of innocents. Hell, I played GTA3 more like Shenmue at first.

The only games I have played that a kid wouldn't enjoy would be things like Ninja Gaiden or F Zero, with their wunderkind-beating difficulty levels... and of course crap games.

Virtually any good game is applicable. What's suitable? Thats a whole other story.
While I don't think there are many games that are as mature as we'd like to think, I guess when you're talking kids the age of 6 or something you'd have to draw a line as a parent.

My six year old loves to play Final Fantasy VI (we've already finished IV and V). Sure you have to read it to them. But teach 'em young.
