PS3 2.0 firmware details posted [confirmed?]

Let's overhype some of the features


* Settings

o [PS / PS2 Settings] has been added as an option. as in options like smooth textures and upscaling?o The method of selecting an output resolution has been changed in [Video Output Settings] under [Display Settings]. Maybe there's now two different output resolutions, one for games and one for BRD
o [Theme Settings] has been added as an option. change the font style and color to match custom backgrounds...


* Photo
o Wallpaper feature has been added. That's enough


* Video
o Files can now be played sequentially. that's nice!

* Game
o XMB™ (XrossMediaBar) is now accessible during gameplay. stay in touch with friends while playing..

* Friends
o You can now select an image to use as your Avatar from [Photo]. Penises ahoy!

* Other
o File sorting has been changed. Maybe we'll be able to create folders to store demos/full game downloads/PSone titles etc.etc.
 
sounds fantastic!

..especially no more "daytime" theme....Since I play the majority of the time at night, this tended to suck always looking at black =(

Also a bit dissapointed there is still no 720p Blu-ray support or upscaling SDVDs...

Still, greatly looking forward to this update and am glad we are getting them so frequently :)

The features i'm excited about. But...

o [Zero Unused Disk Space] has been added as an option under [System Settings] > [Format Utility].

...what does this do?
 
There's nothing on the PR site about this. He links to the general PS3 page on the press site, but the last press release there is about the F@H contribution of PS3 users.

You know whne your HDD is like 60GB, you format it, and you get like 58GB of usable space? This sounds like the ability to have a 60GB formatted HDD.

I thought that was because of the whole 1000KB vs 1024KB thing.

The XMB access is the only thing I've really wanted for them to update and that has always been something I thought would have made PSN complete.

Doubt it, a 60GB HDD should in reality be 58.5GB, so it seems to be correct.

Sure it's too good to be true, but if it's a fake, it's a very good one. The wording is totally Sony :D

Well, I have the press site through RSS, so I would've gotten an update if something was added.

Not saying it's fake, but it was not on the press site.
 
excellent i want this this week :D but i think it wont be due til the camera comes out at end of June they will prob show it in progress during the week no doubt:D

No. You can make 2 gigs out from nothing. :) This maybe means that ps3 will work even if there is no space left even for savegames [or maybe swap files]. Bit extreme, but usefull...

I may be wrong, but I think it's already the case. The few PS2 games I've checked seemed to load faster. Of course, I could have been dreaming :lol

sounds like some secure delete option.
so your porn collection can't be restored should you decide to sell your ps3 or hdd

maybe their going to add a feature where you can burn your PS1/2 games on PS3

maybe you're right? Dunno the only ps2 game I've really played is GOW, and 2. well here's hoping for texture smoothing and upscaling.
 
Sounds great! I hope it's true!

My wallpaper and Xmb access demand is there.
Now there's only one wish that is yet to be answered: I WANT A DEFLICKER OPTION FOR 480i. Common god damnit, even the PS1 had one.

usually zero'ing a hdd refers to overwriting every sector with zeros returning the hdd to the condition it was when it came from the factory. but as it only zeros unused space it sounds more like a delete option. when you normally delete files, you just delete the pointer to the file from a table, but the data is still on the hdd. overwriting it with zeros will physically delete it.

Yeah I was thinking that the other day is there a way to defrag the PS3 drive cause with cache stuff, trailers downloaded/deleted, it'd be abit of a jumble on the HDD. Does it auto defrag at any stage?
