PS3 @ E3: "Change The Gam3"

Many people are forgetting or just don't know that Sony already have hardware that supports iTunes

Sony’s NAS-CZ1 network audio system supports iTunes

So it is no stretch at all for PS3 to support it out of the box.

Politics across different Sony divisions may hinder general adoption of itunes/ipod support though..it remains to be seen if this was the exception rather than the rule.

Doesn't X360 offer similar kinds of functionality with all music players, including ipod, anyway? Of course, it doesn't have itunes, but just the "playing music off the player" bit..

Apple also offered Sony the chance to get onboard with the iTunes Store in the beginning, but Sony turned them down. This was before Sony's climbdown's over mp3 and stuff so maybe this is another change of mind by the new management.

If that report that Sony's player supports Fairplay is true then that's a pretty significant development.

It's no wonder that with Stringer on board,Sony will lose a lot of cockyness to favour a politic based on key alliances to improve their business.
So I wouldn't be surprised at this alliance.

Perhaps part of the equation is Sony dropping their Connect service, while maintaining their own line of HD/flash music players, but making them support AAC and iTunes.

Speculation is a bit premature I think.

Just checked the site, it mentions iTunes but no mention of the music store. And says AAC but doesn't mention protected AAC, or Fairplay.

A lot of network players do this already, play AAC but not AAC+DRM (music purchased from the iTunes Music Store). So don't think Apple have done any sort of deal with Sony just yet.

That would make a lot of sense. Sony already earns a lot more money from many iTunes downloads than Apple itself.

Sony HAS been pretty quiet in these weeks and months leading up to E3. Sure, we had ISSCC and lots of details on CELL, but nothing regarding what PS3 would use. We don't know the GPU details either. If MS is the "release and leak everything prior to debut" side of the pre-E3 hype scale and Nintendo is the "..." side, Sony is definately much closer to Nintendo.

Its like now that MS is swinging wildly at anything, Sony is that one chinese gangster just standing there and you know he's gonna do something good.

Yeah, I've thought that as well. Sony's quietness speaks volumes. And I think the cancelling of the March show was tactical more than anything else.

I haven't read through the thread, just saw the two pics of the billboards.

The cut symbols are signifying the year 2006.

I wonder if the rumored alliance with Apple is meant to further spread the use of Cell technology and if Sony themselves are not interested in the software and services Apple can provide.

Seems like things may be a changin at sony, interesting for sure.

All this excitement from an advertisement on a billboard?

When a single billboard causes more excitement than a 30 minutes infomercial, you know who's going to win the next gen race.

And the problem is that in that "30 minutes", they didn't have enough system info or game footage to fill that billboard. You kinda get the feeling that if MS had a billboard, it would have a pic of Allard hanging out with Elijah Wood laughing while holding 360 controllers.

I get the feeling Sony's gonna totally up-stage everyone at E3. Whether I like it or not. :( :D

Should be an interesting show. Can't wait to see what both Sony and Nintendo have up their sleeve.

Nintendo's done pretty much nothing and caused more excitement than that 30 mins. The less you show, the more hype you get. If Sony and Nintendo somehow collaborated in their next-gen message at E3, they can destroy 360. Make it clear that MS is too early with 360, it would be in both companies' interest.

not a good one either

looks like this forum is gonna be anti x360 until people start substiting Xbox360 as the XDUDE 360

From Axsider at B3D:

"So, back from the GAF (ban) What a joke...
Well, the symbols do NOT represent "2006". It's a little hint
....and it will be a "welcome change"

I'm going to Staples Center today. I'll see if I can take some pics of the Convention Center for you guys, if there's anything interesting.
