PS3 Home Official Thread

I would love this, but i really don't think it will ever happen because

-Home is 720P native and GT:5 is 1080p (completely different rendering engines)
-the models in GT:5 have many, many more polygons than anything in home.
-Polyphony Digital is busy enough just trying to get the full version ofGT:5 out sometime in the next couple years. (Can you say 'damage modeling?')
-What functionality would this add? You wouldn't be able to drive them, simply look, which you can already do from the game itself.

I'm sure they can render lower poly models in Home, unless they're using some sort of proprietary modelling system.

question for fellow beta testers: Do we have to delete home beta before we download the open beta?
No. It will require a patch at most (though I even doubt that, the US Home Square will be tweaked so you will have to redownload that within Home but I believe that's it). You already have the release client.

Tomorrow eh, I'll definitely pop in there and check things out but I'm not really seeing the appeal of it.

Will we be able to create parties ala-NXE tomorrow and can we do this without going into Home?

It can work. They only need to have a different model. Otherwise the GT models will be too realistic for Home. Would be cool if a damage in the game will also cause your Home car to deform though.

You can kind of create parties as of tomorrow. You can also utilize clans through Clubs.

PLAYSTATION®HOME BETA SERVICE WILL BECOME AVAILABLE TO ALL PLAYSTATION®3 USERS ON DECEMBER 11

NANI?!?

So how will we be separated? I haven't done any beta testing for this so say a few of my friends in RL and I want to meet up do we select all select Home East 222 kind of like Runescape or something?

For supporting games (i.e. just Warhawk right now), yes. And you have to be in Home to set up or join groups launching into games together.

You'd invite your friends to come to the space you're in, or go to them.. You can't choose a specific space instance from a list or whatever, you're randomnly assigned to an instance when you choose to go to a space (or at least it seems random..they said before they'd try to send you to an instance where your friends are, but I didn't really see that in the closed beta).

Wollan, you're in Australia like me, are we getting this today? Or tomorrow?
My mate from Sony support AU said they haven't received any special orders, so they will be putting it up alongside the EU store update tomorrow morning.

PlayStation®Home residents will be able to view an exclusive video greeting from Watchmen Director Zack Snyder as well as the latest Watchmen trailer. A selection of virtual Watchmen merchandise e.g. T-Shirts with the smiley face logo, Doomsday clocks and character statues, will also be available in the New Year, ahead of an exclusive Q & A event where cast and filmmakers will meet selected press and competition winners fans within the Watchmen themed environment.

If it is all free, I am SO there. If its not, I probably wont even go into home once.

Ah, interesting, thanks mate!

Wow, So Sony promises Annual Qore subscribers access to the closed beta 5 weeks ago.

It takes me 3 weeks of disgracefully bad email customer service hell for Sony to finally send me the beta code Yesterday so I can get in a whopping 2 days before it goes public?

Gee THanks Sony.

Totally OT, but I don't want to create a new thread cos I don't keep up with these games much ... and this is the closest 'sony' related thread. I'm not sure if it's news at all, but this site here has what looks like some MLB '09 footage:

http://www.appscout.com/2008/12/mlb_09_for_ps3_offers_a_virtua.php

Says it came from a sneak peek of upcoming games from sony earlier today, so i guess it's new? If MLB people know for sure, feel free to post another thread or bump an old one or something :p

Woah, nice! And I don't even like baseball.

You download the beta... play the games to earn Home "gifts", which range from clothing items, to decorations to arcade machines that you can place in your Home space and/or Clubhouse. If others have also taken part in the beta, they can play the arcade machines also through Home.

ah ok, very cool.. didn't know if there was a way to start with arcade units or not, thanks for the explanation

Doh, was thinking it was the 11th today so I booted up my PS3 to check out home.

Oh well, at least I updated to 2.53 so I don't have to waste time tomorrow...

The Red Bull Air Race will not be included tomorrow, but will arrive within days. It will be worth the wait.
From HOME community manager.

In the press release there was specific mention of the SCEE region, does that mean that we in the US should expect something different in home (likely something LESS)?

Clubhouses will now be available for purchase for a one-time fee of $4.99, but they are yours for as long as you want them.

wait, what happens in the clubhouse?

Clubs and Clubhouses

A Clubhouse is a personal space for club members to meet in, and remains available for use even when the leader of the club is offline. The first active feature for Clubhouses is the bulletin board where the leader and, optionally, the sub-leaders can leave announcements for the whole club to read.
Over time new premium Clubhouse designs will become available, as will other tools and services to support and personalize your club. Please note that we are currently testing this feature, and clubs created in Closed Beta will be deleted when Open Beta starts. More information on this to follow soon.

Some facts on clubs:
- A user can own only one club at a time
- A user can be a member of a total of five clubs, which includes any self-owned club. You can own one club and be a member of four others, or simply be a member of five clubs owned by other people
- Each club has one leader (the owner) and up to four sub-leaders
- A club can have up to 32 members
- Each club name is unique
- Announcements are currently limited to four simultaneous announcements
- You can send requests to join a club and leaders can send invitations

What happens in the Club House stays in the Club House.

Honestly, it's like a HOME space with a spot for a television that doesn't seem to be purchasable at the moment. Maybe that'll change tomorrow.

In terms of user "owned" space you should think of the apartments and the clubhouses. Everyone in Home gets an apartment. It's really nice and you can decorate it how you like and whatnot. But your apartment is only available online as long as you are. People can only go into your apartment when you invite them in.

Clubs and clubhouses on the other hand are the opposite. You can start a club and buy a clubhouse if you like. A club is basically like a clan that persists through Home. And a clubhouse is a space that persists only for members of that club. You have to be invited to join a club (up to 32 people as of right now but apparently they plan on expanding that) or start one yourself. If a clubhouse is purchased anyone in that club can enter the clubhouse at any time. It can be decorated by the club leader and you can even post messages for everyone to see. It's actually kind of neat.

So can I launch into games now from my apartment with friends?

Pretty disappointing not seeing it in the beta.

Shit I forgot to log into home on a Jap account is there free stuff there I should go get before tomorrow?

Also I didn't want to spend time unlocking the items tied in with the arcade machines in the bowling alley you think they will still be free tomorrow?

Mall items will no longer be free
unlockable should always be free

In JP home right now. Movie theater is great and all (multi screenings) but it's so empty there, plus I miss the ghetto urban movie theater (of the US version) with people running around, talking on mics loudly, and always in your way of the screen.
