PS3 Home Official Thread

I've got nothing here. Just the same old stuff.

Really? It was a long time since I entered the plaza so maybe I still had the old one from the beta or something?

Does your paza have a big screen on it with grass under it?

What do you mean "Plaza?" It's an alien word to me. The Home Square?

Taken from Home Square. These seemed to fit your description.

Home is actually a lot more lively than usual, and actually fun to be in. I needs more Namco items!

Why is it more fun to be in now? Is it because of the amount of people inside?

I'm very curious because I'm involved in the MMO business.

Ugh, yes. Non-news from me then. When did they change the square? I remember entering it one month and a half ago and it was different :/

For me, it was deserted some time ago. Nobody was there at any hour. Now you can see people playing bowls, pool and even people sitting on a table having a conversation (until they started saying "you taked on the butt? WEEEEEEIIIRRDDD" and such lol)

It looks more alive now.

More people, feel less like douchebag, probly like being in a pub, if your by yourself your an alchoholic if theres lots of people there your a party animal.

I imagine that's a huge part of whether or not something like this seems fun or engaging. I know that when I played MMOs -- some of the highlights for me is when the game is in its infancy, and the newbie zones are abuzz with activity. Once the game is a few years old, the newbie zones aren't nearly as fun to play through.

Home revolves almost entirely around a social aspect, so definitely the more people / activity, the better.

you know, I realized just now that I know absolutely nothing about Home. I mean I've seen stuff all around for it, but I've never been too clear on exactly what there was to "do", and I'm not trolling. So, I'm actually super excited to try it out tomorrow, especially since I have no idea what it is.

I'm envisioning my own personal room that looks like Silent Hill. That would be pretty awesome. Oh! I'd also like a little hill with some trees on it to sit on and listen to some ambient techno or something. Just a program that I can completely zone out to. Is that kind of experience possible, or is it just a bunch of douchey dork-bags staggering around some advertisements?

The splash message on Home says it'll be down from 5am to 7am ET, and afterwards it'll officially be in Open Beta.

Also, there's a dance party at 6pm ET in the Central Plaza. :\ lol

It's both!

Seriously, there's a private space where you can decorate to your liking, and hopefully soon listen to your own music. The free space is a studio apartment overlooking a small bay (reminds me of Santa Catalina), but there's a bunch of others (though the free bonus space for testers hasn't aged well in the last couple years), including a traditional Japanese country home that I'm going to be all over the moment it hits. Dunno if private spaces will include decent sized outdoor areas.

Then you can warp to the public areas, that ironically enough probably aren't quite as advertisement laden as similar areas would be in real life in some instances. I do believe I saw someone complaining about a real-life branded store in... the mall.

I am sooooo pumped for this to expand. I like the beta and there's not much to see or do at all. I can't imagine this thing at full power. So very excited.

probably a dumb question, but if you download the Namco Arcade beta from the jpn store how do you get a redeemable code? Without the code I cannot play my arcade games within home.

I'm looking forward to trying this, it's an interesting concept and it might be a fun way to chat with my friends instead of using just a boring chat window.

I'm about as interested in hanging out with random strangers in Home as I am in talking to strangers on Live.

Beta/Better Readers,

Can I have my friend in my apartment to watch a movie or something while we chat? I remember that being discussed once upon a time and that actually sounds appealing.

Thanks for any info.

I believe watching video is your home is gone, not sure though. (Copyright issues)

You can go back to your place though I believe.

For fucks sake. Thanks for info, though. The dream is over.

Nah, it being left out right now has more to do with technical issues.

Phil's ideal was community/social stuff first, then game stuff later.

When Kaz took over, he flipped that around, game stuff first, community/social stuff later.

Just checked out the Hexus auditoriums in the Home Theatre (EU) and surprise surprise, right now they were hosting a series of PC building shows. Right now it's about how to silence and cool down your rig. Didn't expect this. When one show finished it automatically downloaded the next show or part. Draft has infiltrated Home confirmed.

Good grief sony. For multi-episode theatres, a menu to pick what content you want to watch is a must. Otherwise, if I want to go back and watch the second episode or whatever, I'm gonna have to watch the first all over again?

Just...*shakes head* They should take out the theatre until they have it set up properly. Right now I've zero incentive to use it unless there's exclusive content, because otherwise the ridiculous interface there simply isn't worth it.

Anybody else wondering if they're doing this to distract from the NPD release of numbers? (in terms of the timing of the release, thursday is kind of an odd day for it afterall)

Thursdays are PSN Store update days, Home coming along sorta makes sense, even though it's not coming to PS3 owners through that channel apparently.

Sales-age, serious business.

I dunno... my sarcasm meter isn't even twitching here. You do realize Thursday is the traditional "add new shit to the PSN" day, right?

man im trying to log in to download the free mall stuff before its too late but im getting so many connection errors. i had to log in and out like 10 times to just download the mall area. :lol

I was mostly being sarcastic, but the timing is a little ironic, I mean, heck, the release we get is at 6:30 eastern time even. Still though, probably not. I'm sure at this point Sony wants to make sure it's out and stable as quickly as possible and this thursday was a good day to do it since it's an update day, it is a pretty amusing coincidence though.

Sony updates the US PSN store between 5-7pm est. How is that an amusing coincidence?

Just because this Thursday is an NPD Thursday. It obviously is just a random coincidence, but it's still funny. 3/4 thursdays in November are not NPD thursdays, Home happens to fall on the one that is. Is it some grand conspiracy by Sony to distract from NPD? of course not, but it's still interesting, and I'm still glad they're releasing it sooner rather than later.

Just wondering...is there any word on what time the download will go up? AM vs. store-update time vs. anything else?

ALSO, is someone making a NeoGAF club? I want in!!! (I might consider making it, except I don't know what it takes to be a club leader--don't know if I can handle that kind of responsibility lol)

People in the US beta should have access to it around 8am est. If all goes well with the server downtime.

i agree, i think its easier to meet random friendly people on home rather than in-game. There are quite a few annoyances with some of the people, but its the internet.

.. was home supposed to go down this early?

Yes.. 2am PT. Which is 10am GMT. It's 10.05am GMT now.

They said downtime should be for 2 hours..so..it should be up at 12am GMT (4am PT), give or take.

I guess they're doing it this early so that it's up on Dec 11 in Japan.

edit - oh, you posted that at 9am ish.. in which case..if it was down, it was down a little earlier than expected..

yea the time we were told through our "welcome beta testers" message was basically 5-7 EST. I think I tried to get on around 3:30 or so, and could not connect.
