It's 8:17pm, Dec 11 here in Aussieland.
Well i'm 2 hours ahead of you then. Wanna ask me something about the future? :lol

edit: wait, PM? Shit in that case i'm the one behind, and by 10 hours. :| Was HOME released? What are the lotto numbers?

weird, just connected go update 1.03 downloaded fine but I can't log somehow, taking ages to do so and then i got a network error :( (europe)

:o

Ah, so it's an open beta? I was somehow under the impression that it was already final version time. Well, no matter, I'm waiting. :)

Will the clubs need to be remade today then? Who's going to pony up the cash to do that?

I have a lot of extra psn money but I was holding out for a super deluxe mansion. Summer house might do. I also don't like online responsibility.

I'm the same. It's more the responsibility that I don't want as opposed to paying for it (assuming it's not ridiculously expensive that is). I wonder if club members be able to buy furnishings and clubhouses or will it all be left to the founder?

I mean, in theory it should be up 25mins from now but I would give yourselves 3 hours to be safe (and 72 hours for the following server crashing lul).

I think I'll let you guys test the waters first. I'll join you sometime weekendish, after the servers have been rebooted a couple times. If you want to call that selfish and/or cowardly, I intend to finish Genji 2 in the meantime. Think about that.

Just because this Thursday is an NPD Thursday. It obviously is just a random coincidence, but it's still funny. 3/4 thursdays in November are not NPD thursdays, Home happens to fall on the one that is. Is it some grand conspiracy by Sony to distract from NPD? of course not, but it's still interesting, and I'm still glad they're releasing it sooner rather than later.

It's not funny or interesting at all. Go jerk off to the Wii numbers somewhere else thanks.

I booted up Home two days ago and I was underwhelmed. I hope adding more people and other areas will hold my interest. That along with playing movies dammit!

Except that gmail had all its functionality available and ready right from the start whereas home hasn't.

They've added tonnes of features to gmail since launch...it hasn't been this static application since launch with all of its features there on day one..

Also: I guess the monkey's having some trouble acquainting itself with the 'Home' button :|

Naaa, they said home will be down for two to three hours. Kepping in mind that those are IT-hours, you have to multiply them with at least 1,5 to get real time :)

Wait, you're talking about the EU release right?
I'm in EST US and I thought they said 6pm (3pm PST). You're getting my hopes up :D

Also, I could not find the mall in Jappy Home. I found Famitsu's office with the Necky statue (at least, I think that was Famitsu's office), but no store. Even found the movie theater... is there even a mall? And the lag, omg... and it was empty too.

Unless I'm remembering incorrectly, the message of the day yesterday said that downtime would be between 2am and 4am PST. That's 10am and 12pm GMT.

Now sure, there's obviously some delay..but it shouldn't be like 6pm EST, right?!

Official board says this:

# Technical updates are progressing and as you have probably seen the 1.03 patch is available for existing users already but the service remains unavailable whilst work is carried out
# Service should be back up everywhere early PM UK time although theres no specific time as theres a long list of actions being worked through in Europe, America, Asia and Japan

OK..early PM GMT should be sometime not long after 12pm GMT :p It's 13.16 now, so I guess it could be up to a couple more hours..

Good grief sony. For multi-episode theatres, a menu to pick what content you want to watch is a must. Otherwise, if I want to go back and watch the second episode or whatever, I'm gonna have to watch the first all over again?

Just...*shakes head* They should take out the theatre until they have it set up properly. Right now I've zero incentive to use it unless there's exclusive content, because otherwise the ridiculous interface there simply isn't worth it.

I don't think you understand the concept of a theater. Sure, they *could* have a play menu available but that would defeat the purpose of community viewing. I guess it would be cool if they had seperate rooms, one where you can watch with play controls and one where you could watch with friends via live streaming, but the concept they have now is still pretty interesting.

As far as I could tell in the EU theatre last night (the new one), you're put into a theatre on your own. You don't even see your own avatar, the camera is just fixed looking at the screen, with two options: zoom, and exit. In that context, not having playback control is just silly.

For multi-episode content, no control over which is played at all, even in a communal theatre, is a pain. Well, more than that, it's just completely impractical unless you sit down and watch everything all together in one go. Like, if I started watching Hexus episode 1, then left, and came back and wanted to watch hexus episode 2..as things are now..I'd have to watch episode 1 all over again first.

Even in the earlier communal theatres on the US version, video wasn't synched to what others were seeing. It'd just load and play from scratch for you. Presumably others in the room could be at different points in the video than you, given that they'd have arrived at different times than you, and have had their video start at different times. So even there, having personal playback control makes sense.

On the other hand, not having the synched playback kind of makes being in the theatre with others a bit silly..if not annoying..so i can see why in the new version you go in on your own. Imagine being in a theatre and someone else further along in a video spoiling the plot or something..

This is again why Home needs an explicit party system within home. So that my group can go into a theatre together as a group and have the video playback synched. Joining other people in a theatre instance ad hoc, as it was in the old US theatre, doesn't work because playback then has to be not synchronised so that each person can watch the whole video..

That's an aside to the interface issue, though.

Not even close. Gmail was not a great email program at the get go and its early beta stages. That's why magazines and websites panned it. As they picked up steam, within the first 6-9 months and added features and ironed out bugs then it became more and more powerful and the praise started coming.

Where do (or will) I go to download Home? I checked in the Playstation Store and didn't see shit.

I live in America btw, EST. Is it not up yet?

I guess HOME is coming with the obligatory playstation store update. at least for everyone who did not participate in the beta.

It's not coming in an update, nor will it be on the PS Store.

It will "appear" on your XMB when it is launched, on the PS Network tab, just above the PlayStation Store as a Blue Home icon.

If your PS3 is turned on when they hit the "go" button then you will need to reboot your PS3 to see it.

You bring up good points. Hopefully that was a beta thing and the live theaters will connect to live streams - so you can't spoil the 'movie' for others. Probably not though - at least not for launch.

Judging by the theatre update in the EU yesterday, I think they're addressing this in a much hackier fashion - by putting you in the theatre on your own.

And it's not like Sony hasn't known about this kind of issue for a long time. I remember others long ago in the beta saying that theatres were actually single-person affairs.

And moreover, all of these issues ought to raise themselves immediately to anyone just using the system.

It's another one of those things to add to the list of stuff that makes you wonder just how much is going on in the Home team, or just how (un)aware Sony is of its own product. The lack of playback control alone in single-person theatres is staggering, and is another UI faux pas that makes an absolute mockery of Sony London's self-professed claim to UI expertise and so forth. Putting content like Hexus and Eurogamer in there without such controls reeks of absolute incompetence to be perfectly honest. It really makes you wonder just how much 'personal oversight' Kaz Hirai had over this, and just wtf was going on during all the extra months of delay they had. Cos if Kaz Hirai looked at that theatre setup and said "yeah, that's good enough now", then...

Now, there's concepts in Home I love, as I've outlined before. But Sony does themselves no favours with some of the execution in there right now. I honestly think the Home team probably only has a few coders on it, and swathes of artists. They need more coders, because they seem spread far too thinly, resulting in these terrible gaps in functionality.

so it Home available yet? i just logged onto my PS3 and i didn't get any notification of Home. Is it a part of the software update? or a PSstore download? i have a U.S PS3 with a U.S account, but i'm not living in the U.S.

Uhm.. the Japanese Beta isn't working either. I just updated to 1.3 but it won't go pass the loading screen (It says there was an error connecting to the servers).

The OP stated that you will have to reboot your PS3 (if it's already on) and the icon will appear in the PSN bar.
