PS3 Home Official Thread

Hehe, I was browsing the official forums and this suggestion jumped out at me as brilliant:

By ColosiSlayer:
Rock'em Sock'em Robots in Home: "R2 and L2 for punches, Left Analog down for a dip back. 1 on 1 at a table a la chess. What do y'all think? "
And this reply from Shaan:
Haha that would be perfect for Home confrontations. One guy talks trash, the other guy calls him out. A crowd gathers, chanting "Fight! Fight! Fight", and they "take it to the Rock Em' Sock Em' tables".

I've been in both the JP beta and the US beta for a while. But barely used it.

It is kind of fun to use with your actual friends. But not really interesting to me to meet random people.

But some people do seem to be having fun in it. It will probably be more interesting to non-gamer types who like socializing more than playing games.

The fact that Home will have its own trophies and give us the ability to do cross game invites came out of nowhere.

Good Job Sony!

It'd be great if games came with their Home spaces on the disk so you wouldn't have to wait for the download.

It's really not that big a deal. Especially with background downloading. Besides, the good thing about Home spaces is that you *don't* have to own the game to visit.

"This game is occupied"

I can kind of understand the need for player limits on a game like that, though, more than on an arcade game. If you're actually, physically, going to be playing in the environment...having too many people flying around could be a bad thing. Hopefully it'll let a decent number of people play at the same time though..but 64 (a space's pop cap) may be pushing it.. (?)

Does not matter.. the line will be out the door and all desire to play will be shot if this is how it is handled. I do not see why it can not just run on your own PS3 so that everyone can fly their own course, I dont need to see anyone else. Similar to even arcade games.. they need to find a way around this because there is no way people will virtually wait in line.

The red bull flying video is awesome.. I sure hope more than just that is there at launch because Sony themselves should have some larger games like that to play in Home. That would get me excited about Home for sure!

I think there will be two concerns coming out of this as people start using it more

1. Speed of in-game XMB (in general)
2. Speed of ending game session back to HOME

Concern 1 is more of system wide concern which I hope Sony will address some day. I personally love the mini blade function of NXE. I don't think you need all the functions of the XMB.

I may be wrong about this but I think that if you hold down the PS button and select quit game it will automatically boot you back to home instead of back to the XMB (as long as you launched into the game from Home of course). I'm not positive on that, I'll have to check it out at some point, but I believe that's how it worked. You can do it through the XMB too, either through the quit game option there or by clicking on the home icon, now located in the PSN tab right next to the very similar Store icon (this will fuck you up, you will be pissed off and you will want them to put it back under the Game tab or at least change the fucking colour!).

I will just say on record that I had a blast in my first couple of weeks just setting up a game of Warhawk and running around the square bugging people to join. It was usually pretty easy to get 8 guys together (my player limit) and the one time I met someone with a limit of 16 we got that one filled up pretty quickly.

I quickly became a home convert after messing around with the game launching but gofreak is dead right when he says getting back to home just takes a little too long. Hopefully that kind of thing will be a moving target and we'll see a lot of improvements following the open beta release.

So I finally get accepted into the Beta on December 8th but it's going to be OPEN December 11th. What was even the point in them sending out another wave of closed beta invites?

:lol So this is the official thread of Home or of December 11 ?
*drum roll

seriously, this is the official Home thread ??? or Wollan is doing it ?

Is there going to be any truly gaming related functionality in this build? Like the cross game invites and special rooms or whatever?

Good to see that it is finally coming out after so long. I've lost a lot of the hype I had for it, but it'll be interesting fiddling around with it. Sony is really building a solid, new infrastructure around its Playstation brand.

Have you read anything in this thread?

I agree on the arcade games, but I do think it'd be missing something if it launched a private instance of something like the red bull game, which is designed to occupy the space itself and give the impression of being at an event with people participating etc.

No cross-game invites at the opening of the beta. The notion was never mooted wrt Home until today, AFAIK. The infrastructure is there for game launching and item rewards, but as of the current beta build, only Warhawk supports the former, and Namco Home Museum the latter. There will be more in-home games in the first open build though, via the red bull space etc, but in terms of 'external' games hooking into it..that support has to come from the developers, and Sony should make it mandatory to some degree IMO. The infrastructure is there, but without game support it's just infrastructure. Re. themed spaces for games, there'll be a Far Cry 2 one tomorrow, and more Sony ones are supposed to follow 'very soon'.

Looks like the Red Bull game will be ready tomorrow.

EA MUST GIVE US THE FIFA LOUNGE AT LAUNCH(room). Seriously. How awesome is that? I want it to work like this:

- You log in to home and go to the fifa lounge.
- You choose a player and choose new match
- The Game only loads the data for the match
- You play your match. Come Back to Home and choose a new match.

This would be so sexy. I mean a whole new Fifa Online experience. Come On EA. Do it. Now. Do it. Do it. Come One. Do it.

The Namco Museum thing is a great idea until I remember that to play them I'd have to jump through the hoops of starting up Home. I'd much rather be able to play them from the XMB.

I'm not able to play the arcade machine I won in the Namco Museum in Home :( Guess it's locked to Japan. But I haven't downloaded the new Namco Museum, maybe that will fix it.

What GAFer will be stupid enough to fork up the cash to buy a GAF clubhouse? :lol

We talked a little about this in the other thread. If we set up a room per game, or several rooms per game, we can also set up a pay pal account for that room. Each person who joins the club can help pay the monthly fee spreading the cost and making it extremely cheap.

Lovely idea.

Wow, what timing. I FINALLY got a PS3 two days ago, and now they're gonna let me play Home.

I know Gaffers have been in the previous closed betas. What was the general consensus on GAF?

good opportunity, the closed beta was meh. They need to deliver with a decent amount of game spaces and get the trophy functionality unlocking items/money in home working ASAP.

Have I missed something, you have to pay rent for a clubhouse? Or is it a one time fee?

We have to pay a fee I believe. I personally don't think it's worth it for any ONE person to do this. However, if we spread it around, it's not bad at all. Everyone joining the club can pay a dollar to a pay-pal account. Once those funds are depleted, everyone in the club can pay one more dollar.

I hope they add more to character customization.

I also hope the movie theater becomes more like the Euro one, with multiple showings instead of a big screen with people standing in the way (and an option to view full screen while sitting down).

Oh, and streaming your own music to your apt, because the music they have sucks pretty hard. I need my Radiohead

EDIT: Instead of shoving people into those limited 32 person clubs, why not have different GAF rooms by region? Is there a way to link up those clubs or have communication between them?

As long as they keep the bowling. I love me some bowling.

Maybe they could update the screens above each lanes to show frames/scores, though, instead of just an Echochrome ad. That way you wouldn't have people periodically running into your lane with WAT FRAME U ON above their heads.

EDIT: Which reminds me: different/more arcade games please

i hope theres a lot more added in for this version. seriously guys, home is really boring and empty now. but actually the biggest problem is theres barely any people on it so this might actually be really cool even if theres not a lot more stuff added in.

You know, opening up a bit their LUA based Home arcade games (and maybe add a simple and not exactly features filled 3D Api) to homebrew developers (available to the general public only if they get through SCE at their pace)... sort of a Home app store... could help to add more and more content to Home...

when do you actually log in? Because every time i jump on its packed. No open lanes, no open arcade games, people running around everywhere. Are you logging on at 4am?

Will we even be able to do anything in there? I've been messing with the beta for a while, but never more than 10mins and most of the time just to get/play free stuff... There are no game spaces, barely any video content, nothing to furnish your 'home' with, the beta clubs are weaksauce (and the open beta clubs require you to pay for a mere 32 members.) I was kind of hoping they were gonna post-pone the launch for when they actually had content (or are all the goods being [re]launched tomorrow?)

read :)

the central square is being redone and will have some flying saucer game in it for people to play. From what i can garner the 2 beta gamespaces will be launched again, followed shortly by Red Bull and Warhawk spaces, Resistance has been shown and is being worked on, and i know i'm missing a few others then mentioned. Other game spaces are launching the week of release (ie Capcoms with Street Fighter 4)

edit...

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=13944962&postcount=146

Motorstorm space (with games to play there plus merchandise) and the ability for it to read your trophies and award you with stuff in game, etc.

My only complaint about the beta was that I couldn't make my avatar have a beard. I don't even look like myself! :(

Yep, that's the reason I made a girl avatar instead.

Now I have always some guys running behind me, which is kinda funny but also a little scary. Especially because I keep telling them that I'm not a hot girl.

When a Street Fighter IV gaf club-house for the East Coast gets made in Ferbruary, I will be willing to chip in

So is it confirmed trophies=home money?

Man, I really friggin hope so. because I am not going to spend real $$ on some t-shirts for an avatar.:lol

I also HOPE that if this is true, that there is some sort of retroactive thing were we get money for the trophies we already have.. because I WILL NOT play some of the games over for a 3rd time to earn money. :lol
