PS3 Home Official Thread

After not seeing what HOME was really for, I've have finally found out. It's for pissing about. Find some dude who looks up for some smack talking and insult his mother. I had a hilarious yo' moma fight with some dude in the bowling alley, we had a crowd around going "oh" and "no he didn't!" type of stuff. Then I started a dance party in the shopping mall. There around 30 people just dancing in the middle of the mall - it must have been a funny sight for people entering to see 30 dudes just dancing. It's a shame you can't mass invite peeps back to your house. I have a really nice Summer House with cool stuff and want to get loads of people in to muck around, but it's really difficult to invite loads of people.

sigh what? Don't give me bullshit responses like that.

You can't honestly tell me, this was worth the money and resources wasted that could have been better spent somewhere else.

Anyone that can honestly defend something as useless as this straight faced has issues.

The fact that it's free is irelevant. It's time and money Sony COULD have spent on getting their online infrastructure right, instead of continuing to give us the smoke and mirrors like Home and Life with Playstation that do nothing more than hide the fact that they have a LONG way to go.

home is fine for what it is. Its for talking to people, you know social interaction with douches online.

This is it. Pretty much man.

It's not a grandiose ultra game that's gonna change everything.

It's for just interacting with people when you don't feel like playing an actual game.

:)
I'm one of those who likes to go up to people fighting and make comments like 'Are you gonna take that?' and "Show him you mean business, emote with your fists!"

Should have video taped the whole thing. :)

if you're one of those people who wishes that just the act of powering up your ps3 would "frag a newb" then likely you're not going to like home.

I might start doing that. This was the first time it happened and was totally unplanned. I was just chatting with a friend waiting for a pool table to open up (that is the biggest bullshit ever. Having to wait for a virtual game of pool to become free in a virtual world) and this German guy just came over and said "your mum was good last night". To which I replied "she's disabled from the waist down". And it just went on and turned into yo' moma fight :D

Don't get me wrong, I can see the time waste factor in it. And it's fine as an add on. But lwet's be honest, between Sony and the fanboy ranting, this was billed as the be all and end all in gaming as we know. Basically an Xbox Live killer and system seller for the PS3.

It is still incomplete. The developers spent a lot of time working on the SDK (so developers and potentially non-developers can create content for Home).

Read the developer interview in Develop Magazine.

care to find posts less than a year old saying this? there was optimism when it was first announced, but not even all the promises in that first announcement have been realized yet. excitement and expectations had fallen drastically up to release.

Jdizzl from the ps3 forums asked cydonia x (home developer) about media streaming and the trophy room... here's her responses.

Hey JDizzl,

Thanks so much for the props - we greatly appreciate that. We're working on the streaming media issues - of course there are clearances that need to be established before offering that kind of feature to the community; it's not an easy or quick thing to get figured out. And, yes, you will see the Theater transform drastically in the not-too-distant future

Hey there,

Yes, the creation of 3D trophies in Home is one of our biggest user requests, and as such, we are taking it seriously. That is something we will continue working on, but we'll have to balance it out between creating new game spaces for Home, virtual items, and working on new features. Lots to come for 2009!

Everytime I go to redecorate my furniture in my house I think how amazing it would be to have a Pop-it in Home. Plus they need to move the camera back when placing furniture. I can't see how it looks, proportional to other things.

The pop-it is amazing. I agree.

Also, the camera thing was one of my strong beta suggestions, but no changes yet. I also suggested a "move through the avatar" option and a overhead view of the room while placing furniture, as well as a copy item option when you select an item.

FINALLY got in.

And uuuhhh....really? THIS is what the Sony fanboys have been going on about for 2 years? Holy fuck.

The ONLY good thing to come out of Home is the ad I saw for the Street Fighter LBP content coming. Can;t wait for that.

Even the bowling is shit.

And you have to download every fucking room you go to?

Sony needs to get their online shit together big time. This thing is a travesty.

You like strawman arguments don't you?

I would imagine it's the admins, unless the mods have admin powers. What's the *** ?

GOOD NEWS!!!! (if you think over priced bullshit selling is good news)

From PSU.com

It's the Holiday season and it's the time for giving, yet it seems most people are shopping for themselves from the comfort of their own Home. With Sony's extremely anticipated social networking application being released to the public, it saw the release of a ton of paid for content for your virtual self to try on and impress the "ladies" of PlayStation Home. While the pricing on some of these items have been astronomically overpriced (Think Santa Suit for $10), gamers are surprisingly eating all of these items up like they're on life support.

According to Susan Panico, Senior Director of PlayStation Network, Home brought in more cash in its first four days than the entire video store did in its first week. This number is not only astonishing, but partly sad as well. With the purchase of some of these items, gamers are giving Sony the thumbs up in providing more content that costs $10 per "virtual outfit."

Considering how many of you have complained during weekly updates about measly add-on content prices, it's shocking to see the support for these add-on clothing prices almost welcomed by all.

When discussing this rush of sales, Panico contributes its success to "a classic 80/20 model, where 20 percent of your customers create 80 percent of your income."

Well looks like this pricing shit is here to stay, and we can expect home to continue to suck while sony wracks in off of stupid people who buy stupid shit!

It's amazing how many desperate guys there are in home not just that but how stalker-ish a lot of them are.

This is so sad & so true it's ridiculous. I finally bothered myself enough to sit down and download everything and make my way to the hub only to discover some random dude chasing a girl around the courtyard telling her she is his girlfriend and her running away only to be followed & harassed until she logged out.

why are they saying $10 outfits? The Santa outfit doesn't even cost half of that.

so based on my beta experience, i thought i'd never use home at all. i waited several days after the official launch to give it a try. i have to admit, i like home. i like the fact that there's a 'lobby' for ps3 users to just chat in. i see myself regularly jumping into home for a game of chess. sure there are trolls, but i've also seen kind and purposeful chat, too.

beyond the typically requested features and those already promised, i want to see the following:

in terms of getting to play games:
-a queue system for bowling. players and groups of players should be able to secure a place in "line" without actually waiting in a line that some asshole could jump anyway.

-for chess, on two of the tables, winner should have the option to stay seated but loser should have to get in a 'challenger' queue. i was whooping this guy named last_1_champ or something, and he gets up but sits down immediately so he can play again. i didn't want to play that chump again, but it was silly that HE was able to continue playing without a chance for others to play. on the last table, it should be a 'free table' using the queue system similar to what i proposed for bowling so that a pair of people can get a place in line to play eachother (otherwise it's way too hard to play a game with a specific user).

-i think pool should also have a mix -- half the tables should be free tables using the queue system, the other half should let winner stay (but still use queue system for challengers).

in terms of how the games play:
-i want the option to "watch" while bowling -- give me a better view of my opponents throws, if i so choose to use that view.

-show the frame number for each lane, so people waiting have an idea how long it will take.

-having monitors showing scores would also be nice in bowling, so that the games aren't so instanced and onlookers can be a little more involved.

-let me have a free camera while the opponent takes his shot in pool

in terms of how Home works in general:
-FIRST PERSON VIEW OPTION! MMOs usually let you zoom in all the way to first person, and there have been many times i wanted to do it in home.

-let me change the color of my fucking clothes. i'm in all black because the clothing designs i want are not available in other colors. it also doesn't help that my hair is black, because there's no option for dark brown hair.

-oh and custom soundtracks ARE A MUST! no, the elevator music in Home does not help me want to stay there.

edit: for the record i still think Home obviously underdelivered. it's just not as worthless as some trolls make it out to be.

What a hypocrite.

It's not a request, you told us, and showed us LIVE that it would have those a year ago when you showed LBP.

LBP came through on its promises, why can't you Mr. Home person?

Ms. Home Person.
But uhhh when did we see User-created content in Home?
I missed that memo.

ugh 3D trophies are dumb. Make it so trophies earn you clothes and stuff in Home!!

This is one instance where the dev team has to not listen to what the audience is saying, but what they really "mean". People want rewards for their trophies, but static 3D representations that you can only show to people who go to your trophy room is dumb.

Yeah, I prefer them to do something more useful and actionable. Displaying 3D trophies doesn't sound as exciting as getting items we can use.

Don't waste time making 3D trophies.

I'm guessing at most it will be a trophy or frame where you can hand-pick a favorite trophy bitmap from your collection to be displayed on it. These items being placed in your living rooms..etc.

Making a hugely advanced 3D trophy command center is waaay overkill (the original plan before they surprised revealed bitmap trophies earlier this year) and I don't think it will be used much by people. It's just way more practical to compare profiles via the ingame XMB.

Sony has not fixed the disconnections at all. Me and ppl on my friends list all got booted yesterday and and just now with those stupid errors.

Learn the difference between at all, and completely. The problem definitely still exists, but its weird because it seems like for a day it didn't....

I was in Home and there was a guy dancing in the corner and he said "I like dancing in home because in real life I have to use a wheel chair." :(

I like Home, even though there are some creeps you meet some ok people on there. I met this geek (his words) yesterday and the guy was teaching me all kinds of stuff, most of which I forgot. He was pretty impressive though.

I met someone and talked to them for a while then we were talking about sports and dancing and he said he was disabled. I felt bad all of a sudden for some reason.
