PS3 rumours surrounding the BR drive

Dunno if he is BSing or not...

From Fishie:

So last night I decided to do something I rarely, if ever do.
Use a straw man to break an embargoed news release.
That was off course the PSP gigapack news.
Waited long enough so it wouldnt be that big of a deal and it couldnt spread too much before that news went public.

I contacted Hey69(who is a distant relative of mine) and asked him to alter the pic and put Fishie and Reirom OWNED on it.
Predictably some Sony fanboys on GAF claimed it to be fake, man do they have egg on their faces now.

With the newfound credibility Hey69 was enjoying when the news finally became officially I decided to abuse him by feeding him fake news and post it here as well.
That being the single layer none backwards compatible BD in PS3 off course.
After doing that and have him post it here I went to bed and sleep.
While I was sleeping it spread.

Hey69 himself doesnt know that news is fake yet since I have not told him.

You have all been OWNZORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRD.

:\

Let's put money on this. Odds are 100:1 that it won't happen. Yeah I came up with that figure off the top of my head. It's a decent payoff isn't it?

Again if you read my above quote it seems Fishie (well known 'journalist') made this information up. Maybe one of the mods can check for sure and lock this abomination?

They were not screwed like this. It would have had to be Sony coming to their houses fucking them in the ass and branding them on the butt-cheecks like cows to be on a similar level.

You do not seem to realize the worldwide PR backlash this would generate and not only that, but the fact that this would DESTROY them in Japan.

Again, go ask in Japan how much they love Mitsubishi cars... people there seem to have a very good memory of companies which have screwed them over too much.

Whatever is the situation in their labs now, I do not believe they will launch such a disaster (which I would not buy: no DVD movie playback, no CD audio playback and at the same time no PSOne and no PSTwo backward-compatibility and NO compatibility with dual layer BD-ROM discs ???? That would be such a PR disaster that wopuld destroy their SCE/PlayStation brand name in Japan IMHO).

You were saying?

"Sony Computer Entertainment Japan today announced that a limited edition Satin Silver version of its slimline PS2 would go on sale in Japan on November 23 but that it would have compatibility issues with some existing games. The announced list of games incompatible with the silver slimline system (model SCPH-75000) is fairly short, but it includes one surprisingly high-profile (and recent) game:

Tekken 5 (SLPS-25510)
Ai Yori Aoshi (SLPS-25224 and SLPS-25225)
F1 2001 (SLPS-20120)
F1 2002 (SLPS-20199)
Gauntlet Dark Legacy (SLPM-62125)
Hitman: Contracts (SLPS-25406)
Racing Battle C-1 Grand Prix (SLPM-65897)
Stylish Mahjong Usagi Double Pack (SLPM-62571)
Usagi: Yasei no Topai (SLPS-20207) "

And the PS1 games

wasn't it you who said sony would fuck over the first buyers of ps3? what was that all about?"
no, i said if they pushed ahead with a certain plan, they would potential fuck over PS3 first buyers. I also stated that i didn't think they would, but if they did - they should burn in hell. They didn't/aren't.

but that had nothing to do with Bluray.

RE: Tekken 5 - if you read the Japanese - the problem is with Tekken 3 in the extras, not the actual game. So it's not like Tekken 5 doesn't work so that info above is a little bogus.

On the B3D board hey69's only response in their massive thread is

can you disclose this certain plan or is it secret? :)

The ability to play back DVDs and CDs are part of the BRD-ROM spec....

Notice the "Blu-ray At a glance" chart on page 3:

http://www.blu-raydisc.com/assets/downloadablefile/bluraydisc_ifa2005_brochure-13046.pdf

All Blu-ray products can play back DVDs and CDs....

If the PS3 could play back BRD-ROM disks and not DVD/CDs it would not be in complience of the Blu-ray ROM spec and therefore wouldn't recieve the Blu-ray license....

In other words....use your heads guys.....

Yeah, but if we did that we couldn't have a 5 page thread based off of speculatory bullshit. And where is the fun there?!

Thats all nice.. except it was proven a few times earlier in this thread that it isn't part of the Blu-Ray spec (or at least not required).

Still.. I don't get the point of this joke. To start it at B3D of all places. It doesn't look like April 1st on the calender to me. :P

One thing I don't get is why Fishie would leak NDAd stuff, and then admit breaking the NDA publicly.

Now, if he really leaked it like he claims and had an NDA to him, it's pretty easy to teach him some respect to NDAs. The pack in picture was British. Just send a recap of the leak and it's reasons to the British SCEE PR rep. Companies have ways to deal with idiots. These ways include, but are not limited to

1. sueing
2. not giving further coverage to journalist in question
3. telling your PR mates in couple of other companies while you are it
4. all of the above

EDIT: I just read the OA thread in question. I think he is bullshitting. He really can't be that stupid to break an NDA to "own" somebody in OA... or can he?

I have scanned this thread and nowhere do I see a link proving this at all....could you point it out to me??

The .PDF I provided is sourced from the BDA, *clearly* states Blu-ray is backwards compatible with DVDs and CDs and is from IFA 2005 in berlin, so this information is current as of early September 2005...just over a month ago....

Crazy Fishie in action!

You obviously don't know him well enough :P

That's the man who photographed with Kutaragi making the v-sign (horns) behind Ken's head!

Reaction from Fishie said:
Generally I do respect NDA´s, as a guest writer for NGamer, XBox mag, Official PS2 mag and over a dozen other magazines and websites it would be suicide if I didnt.
As I stated before, I leaked this late enough so it wouldnt spread too much before official confirmation came as part of a social study in internet behaviour(thank you, you guys didnt let me down and provided me with plenty of material for an upcoming article), part of this experiment was the outrageous PS3 claims posted by the same guy who had just been proven right by the earlier leak and gauge reactions on that and again GAF, OA and others provided me with plenty of research material.

As for actually breaking an NDA, one was never signed.
The press release was embargoed till 2am NYc time though(7am London) and from my chats with people at EGM, 1up and Gamespy I was surprised to learn that unlike me they had not been filled in yet by Sony.

Sony will not sue me for this experiment and I doubt it will change my relationship with them in any way.
