PS4 Firmware 3.0 Features

Eyepet is still a thing that we want to remember

#gamechangerthathorrifiesmetothisday

Lol, true. I bought Eyepet for my daughter when it came out and she played with out for a couple of weeks.

We still joke about starting the game up now and finding nothing but a pile of bones and fur with several flys hovering over it. Poor thing hasn't been fed or washed in years....

I'd love to know what you've been fiddling with. Aside from the publically announced communities feature I've been struggling with "new" things for my idle thumbs to mess about with!

Some different options for broadcasting that I've yet to try, really. The publicly announced ones. Sadly the things I'm referencing earlier are not mentioned publicly so... yeah.

The PNG update is amazing, though now I have to transfer from USB card to PC instead of just Elgato (direct to PC), it's worth it.

Wish I could upload them to my Google Photos account or if Sony had their own web service.

Google Photos integration with PS4 would be

I'm wondering whether the obligatory "rebuilding of database" during the 3.0 firmware update is responsible for this; rather than the update build itself.

My dash feels about the same; if not, ever so slightly more sluggish.

Nah, I know what my new drive was like when I first installed it. This is a significant improvement.

I'm kinda slow, what's Google Photos?

It's an amazing new service from Google that automatically uploads all the pictures on your devices to the cloud.

Then it automatically categorizes them (there's even a Screenshots category, which would be perfect for PS4), and allows you to access them from anywhere (either via an app, or via photos.google.com).

More often than not, every time I take a photo/screenshot on my phone, it takes like 20 seconds for it to be available in Google Photos, ready to download or share. It also gives you unlimited cloud storage for your photos (or 15GB for your raw image files).

It would be amazing on PS4.

It's Google's photo storage and viewing service. I used it on my phone before and it gives you 15GB of cloud storage.
Gives you unlimited cloud storage if you store at 16mp and 1080p. Looks pretty good still tbh. Really really handy service.

And more importantly what poster above said ^^. The sorting feature and machine learning are incredible in it.

Wait is it part of Google+? I think I had that on my phone but disabled it, I don't want my nudes online lol.

How did people get into the beta to begin with? I don't remember people posting about a sign up on here like they do for xbox

I think there was an email or some web page (or a post on here somewhere) saying about it, my memory is terrible, I think it was a tweet/web page though, asking who would like to try it.

It was, I don't think it is anymore.

there's a separate google photos app. but its also sort of tied into google drive.

google+ is a weird thing. i think they are in the process of uncoupling it from everything because no one really liked that integration especially since it forced you into using your real name on a lot of things.

I applied for the beta but haven't received the invitation yet and thought I'd get my Plus sorted out in advance of getting it and it looks like the 10GB save limit has gone live already.

Some of the games that I have saved in the cloud:
Little Big Planet 3 - 584.1 MB
DriveClub - 325.1 MB
N++ - 187.9 MB
Nom Nom Galaxy - 125.9 MB
The Witcher - 111.2 MB
Rocket League - 104.9 MB
Madden - 94.38 MB
Dragon Age - 83.89 MB

Although they are the bigger files, they are only a fractions of the games that I have saved in the cloud and those alone are over 1600 MBs.

For people who have turned off auto upload on some game, switching it back on doesn't automatically upload them. You have to start the game up and that will log that there the save has changed or you have to manually upload them and it will just update it as normal the from the next time you play the game.

People should learn to filter what to upload to PS+. I mean you can upload save file from Driveclub without replays and the size is a lot smaller, same for LBP 3 and costumes, etc... save file, just upload the progress file.

I'm loving the announced new additions to 3.0, but Inwould be absolutely thrilled to be able to copy multiple items at once (to USB or the Cloud).

Which people? Are there people who haven't learnt to do that yet? Hopefully, one day Sony will add it as an option for the auto uploads that I'm talking about in my post too rather than it being an all or nothing option as it is now.

To be fair, all of the firmware updates since... 2.0 or so force a DB rebuild when installing.

That being said, I can certainly say that it does feel snappier. PNG screenshots are a fantastic addition. There are a few things that I did with the new firmware in general that I cannot really share because I want to remain within the NDA, but so far it's been great.
Friend notifications confirmed?

God yes. Backing up my saves to USB before I updated to the beta took FOREVER because you can't just select all and then copy.

- Online storage capacity increase: PlayStation Plus members’ PS4 cloud storage capacity will increase from 1GB to 10GB

- Request to watch: Want to view a friend’s gameplay session? Now you can send a ‘Request to Watch’ notification to a player, which will start a live broadcast or Share Play invitation to the person playing.

Liking these changes.

Is the 10gb already live for everyone? I uploaded some save files that should have put me over my limit and it seemed to work. Just wondering if someone else can confirm.

Oh man thanks for this post. Gonna upload all my files now.

So what happens when you Plus account lapses? Do they delete 9 GB of cloud storage?

You don't have any cloud storage without PS+. When PS+ expires, your saves will exist up there for I believe six months(?).

I didn't have PS + for 18 months. When I renewed my subscription, my old PS3 save were still on a cloud. Nothing was deleted.
