PS4 | Killzone Shadow Fall - Shadow Marshal Tactical Combat Tutorial (new gameplay)

Loved the way the guard on the right at 6:00 doesn't have a direct line of sight and heads to higher ground to flank you. One guy attacks from the side while the other charges you head on because you aren't looking.

yeah i was going to post that as a reponse to the a.i comments. it's a good example of the a.i flanking the shield, which seems very overpowered on the surface (most similar tools in games don't allow you to shoot through them yourself)

i understand people's concerns that the game won't be balanced but it seems pretty obvious to me that the forest level is very early on and there to ease you into the new style by giving you a big sandbox without much challenge. so you can try out all the owl features without feeling threatened and get taught by the game that you can do more than just straight shooting, as doing that in an easy area is boring.

I love how I can still detect the faintest hint if a dutch accent in the narrator's voice. Guerilla repping my country hard.

Footage looks incredible, the OWL seems to expand your combat options in a big way.

Yeah. With SF they're giving the player ample methods of defeating enemies in varied ways, it seems overpowering if the AI can't provide a legitimate challenge.

From this video the AI isn't very smart. I mean he deployed the shield and guys stood shooting at him anyway,.

Though one guy branched off onto the little rock beside him but still. It hasn't wowed me yet

I'm actually really digging these infomercial type of gameplay demonstrations that developers have been adopting as of late. They are probably the best way to advertise all of the new features in a game.

Glad they clarified that that railgun is specifically designed to be recoil free when in ADS. Seems like it finally has some kick from the hip now. Interesting that it's also considered silenced when in SMG mode.

The only bad thing is that sonar mode. They need to gimp that hard, smaller range, show only marker icons and not whole silhouettes.

Listen to the audio again. The nano shield takes damage too. It is reasonable to expect the AI to wear it down so that some of them can get direct line of sight while others try to flank you.

Any "see through wall mode" in games is fucking dumb anyway

The game seems to be a lot more noob friendly compared to older KZ games (though we haven't seen higher difficulty modes) but having the OWL with a huge number of overpowering mechanics along with seeing through walls and adrenaline packs that not only slow down time but save you from dying I can't help but feel there's too many crutches in the game.

That's true I guess, it just didn't come across very well to me. I'd hate to see the AI get worse after how great it was rpeviously, just a little concerned

Best launch game graphics. Ryse gives it competition but when you see that scale in the KZ city, it's obvious which game is more impressive.

Holy shit

I just liked the way he died. /psycho
Amazing

My only complaint really. I do like the owl but I wish xray and slow mo werent part of the abilities. The others are more strategic and don't put you in god mode.

Man I really hope difficulty is scaled to meet the amount of tools you have.....most of these things would be temporary powerups in other games

Lol, I'm glad that you've extrapolated the entire difficulty of the game from a grand total of what, 10 minutes of footage they have shown from the campaign?
The use of these features is limited, as they said. And it's ridiculous to think that having more combat options makes for a worse game when you have no clue about the difficulty.

Did Crysis become a worse game for giving you suit powers? Not really, in fact, it was one of the few worthwhile awesome features of the series.
Let's net get all knee-jerk up in this, okay?

Hmmm, I guess we should wait for some reviews and/or play it ourselves before concluding. Most videos are always set to easy so that the player isn't easily overpowered and can't show what they wanted to show :)

Giving so many tools is meant to make you feel powerful against overwhelming odds. They are a crutch if defeating the enemy is easy even without it. They are indispensable if they become the only way you can get out of formidable situations. We shouldn't make judgements based on a video that is most likely played on easy mode.

I'm so glad they have only shown us a small section of this game. I really hope that all Sony developers do the same.

Agreed. They have hardly spoiled anything and yet shown everything we need to know. There is still at least 9 hours and 30 minutes of the campaign that we haven't seen! :D

It does seem to be a little overpowernig TBH and in all liklehood it's to aid the transition to a more open style of play. Just like MGS V is adding a few more crutches to aid in its transition too

I guess it depends on how it actually plays overall but for now it seems a little too much from these videos

You may have a point but I'm just expressing what I feel about the game. These videos are all I have to go on

Amazing video. Whole new gameplay segment at the end. A completely new location. IQ has come so far since we first saw it. Amazing AA and better AF implementation, better effects, post processing, mist, lighting, textures etc. Fact that it has open ended and variable level design in areas just makes it that much more impressive and exciting.

Lol at that WTF company logo popping up (on the right) again. City looks sublime.
So Killzone does use Antistropic filtering? In the thread about AF it gets picked on for not using it, or is that just thee multiplayer?

Damn, i wished i didn't watched that. I want to be surprised with the scenery when i play it the first time.

Ryse has nice character models and a realistic look. Besides that I don't think it looks better. The environments in that game look weird to me.

Well that's the amount of time from the devs mouth isn't it? These estimations are usually way off due to how different people play the game

Let's hope it is a decent length though. I finished 2 and 3 pretty damn fast

It just concerns me that there are lots of ways to use crutches to fight back the enemy.

Reviving is genuinely surprising to hear. It won't be an issue if the hard difficulty AI is able to counter the OWL, but it's just unfortunate that they don't show hard difficulty. Guess we'll see when the time comes.

This game looks great. I've never played a Killzone before because they always looked too grey but I'm getting this day one. The touchpad owl controls seem interesting too, I hope it feels natural.
I've heard previous Killzone controls were kind of weird though, is that still the case for this iteration?

Agreed. It'll probably be twice as long for me, though. I always play at hard and I suck at shooters in general. :D

The 'weirdness' was mostly attributed to the controller lag, which has apparently been improved drastically.

Haven't been so imterested in a straight up FPS since Half Life 2.... Which this game seems to keep reminding me of. BF4, Crysis 3, and COD didn't look bad or anything but they just seemed so mired in the tropes and trends of the current gen. Shadow Fall really feels like the first full on AAA game built from the ground up for next gen. Not just the graphics but the whole thing.... More open levels and choice of approach, focus on good AI and gameplay, super slick and tasteful art and visuals. Just the whole package. If it's even part way as good as it looks this should be such an awesome bar-raiser for the coming generation.

Yeah i agree. First person story telling also helps with the HL vibe.

I've never played the previous games. Is it safe to jump right to this one?

I want SOMETHING that showcases nextgen and this looks like the one.
