PS4 Launch Thread [Thread being archived 1/1/14]

Is there a tutorial regarding how recording gameplay works?

Double tap the share button to manually set a start point for a 15 minute recording. After starting a recording, single tap to end recording.

If you just press the share button once, it SHOULD have your previous 15 minutes already there though people are reporting glitches.

Finally, long hold the share button and release to take a screenshot.

Sorry if I am not understanding correctly, but you mean the actual Playstation App for mobile? I actually don't even have that, hmm. If you mean signing out somewhere on the PS4, where did you do that at?

Again, sorry if I am totally misunderstanding. I would just love to see my Avatar and not my FB Icon...

I mean the actual PS app for mobile (iOS in my case). But it looks like your situation is different.

Ok I seriously need to figure out what's going on with this thing. Does the PS4 just have really shitty wi fi or does some of the network features on the dashboard routinely have problems loading due to PSN failure? When it happens for me I notice the what's new section will not load and neither will the details of a game, they just have that spinning circle in a loop. The PS store also won't load when it happens either, it'll just boot to a blank blue screen. However my friends list will still display and my trophy list will still sync as well.

I thought maybe it was my connection but I did a speed test on my PC (also using wi fi, and it's a few feet further from the PS4 and modem) and it was fine there. It seems to be relatively frequent but random as well. One minute it'll be like that then 5-10 minutes later it'll be fine again.

edit: Now when it's working I go to the store and click on a game to download and then I get the blank screen again. I wanted to download warframe tonight but I guess that plan is screwed.

My first night of PS4 gaming in the books...

Love it so far. Everything seems quick and responsive. BF4 is decent, Resogun is great but I had already played it. AC4 I will play tomorrow. Good job so far Sony. Now bring on more games!

So I was searching ebay for use in another thread and ran across this

SMASHED PLAYSTATION 4! ONE OF A KIND! LIMITED EDITION!

$_57.JPG

I am selling my personal one of a kind smashed Playstation 4 console! The console was hit repeatedly with a baseball bat as well as two different trucks had ran over it! I haven't tried turning it off or on yet so I am not sure if it works but I am almost 99% that the PS4 is fully destroyed.

Ironically this is one of the most accurate ebay descriptions I've seen

Oh and people are bidding on it but I guess it's only 20 bucks at this point

I mean there is a 1% chance, amirite?

Okay, I'm posting this link here because I don't have the power to create threads, i don't think.
But this has really peaked my interest.
This video is another console comparison video, but this one stands out from the rest.
Mainly because of the section when demonstrating the time each console takes to start up from their respective standby modes.

In this video the PS4 starts up at an extremely fast rate!
I have a PS4 and mine does not start up out of standby this fast.
Can anyone clarify to me why that is? Does yours start up as fast as the one in the video?
Start at point 9:07 in the video and tell me what you think.

Maybe a SSD?

How does the PS4 handle game invites? can you invite party to a game from an OS level or invite anyone?

I really like how the join screen shows a lot of info, map info, time you've been playing etc but what about the invites?

Any chance of Amazon restocking PS4's before Xmas?

Oh yeah, most places around here expect them to be in again prior to Black Friday, in limited quantity of course, but you will have a new wave incoming. I'm guessing another 250K units or so, with another 500-750K sold in Europe.

That would be mind blowing really, so maybe pull those numbers back a bit. But hey, if Sony has already been able to produce 2 million units by the end of November, they have some serious production capability. Destroys anything else in PS history production wise.

The PS4 is an insanely fast system. I'm running a stock HDD and the startup from Standby is barely noticeable man really. You see the PS logo, and then you see your UI ( i have auto login set ). Theres almost no wait in between. The UI reacts to your voice commands instantly. Everything moves around ultra slick with very little judder or lag when doing stuff, the switching between App / Game is instant, etc. It is a very clean UI, pretty blown away by it.

My Seagate SSD Hybrid feels about that fast with voice commands. Start up is more around the 15-18 second mark.

Has anyone successfully used a 3.5mm microphone (not headset, just mic, like the Zalman clip-on mic) with the Dualshock 4? I hear the pack in headset kinda sucks, so I'm thinking about just using a microphone. Does chat audio get outputted to TV/surround speakers via HDMI or optical, or do I need a headset to hear chat audio?

Mapping the back touch or expanding the reach would be nice. Like make each space squared space as the L2/R2/L3/R3 but split it in quarters like it is not but I have to reach too far back. I get that they do it since people will accidentally press them a lot.

Mine is the same, idk why. This video below shows the same exact results I have which is about 20 seconds cold boot, and a similar for standby.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZQqyKABJkM

when you are in standby and PS4 is working (downloading/installing/updating), it is really quick.

When you are in standby and PS4 is doing nothing, it has to start OS all over again and it takes 20s.

See, now this makes sense. Thanks.

I've only put my ps4 in standby twice but I'm 99 percent sure it didn't resume as fast as that video. That seemed almost instant. I get the PS logo and about 5 to 10 seconds. This is by memory though. I'm going to have to time it now.

Got a PS4 from radioshack yesterday!!!! They were just sitting there lol, no one suspects the shack. Anyway though -- does the glossy part of the console scratch easily for anyone else? Mine is pretty dinged up for whatever reason...

My roommate has a PS4 and I just loaded up Need For Speed and it goes right into his game save.

is there a way for me to play my own game?

ALSO

is the best part of PS3, PS Home, coming to PS4?

I'm finding it basically impossible to hear friends clearly in party chat while playing a game the volume is so low. Can anyone recommend a good mic/headset they use that outputs at a higher volume

so sign out and create a PSN account for myself?

Also if PS Home doesn't come to PS4 they might as well just cancel any future PS4s they were planning to make.

What the fuck.

I turn on my PS4 like normal this morning, and a sound of static kept emitting from my TV. It sounded just like the old "snow" channels. I immediately turned my PS4 off, set the volume to zero, and checked the HDMI connection.

Everything is working fine now, but this definitely scared me. Should I be worried of this becoming a reoccurring event, or was it just a fluke?

Quick question. I made a new account for my ps4, just cause I didn't like my old username and I wanted one that was related to breaking bad. Haha. Anyway, in my old account, I have about 5$ in there. Is it possible for me to use the 10$ included with the ps4, redeem it using my first account, buy a PSN game, but play it using my new main account?:) thanks!

I love sound shapes/cloud saves. Got another free 49 trophies and a 3rd platinum from that game for syncing my save to the PS4 version of the game. Hearing that ding 49 times in a row was awesome :)

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
I know that no other regions are live yet, but has anyone stated that games bought and downloaded from other regions on a separate account will work the same way they did on PS3, available in the games list for every account to play freely?

I sometimes think that the PS4 and TV's once a blue moon don't hand shake properly. One time I turned mine on and had no sound. Switched my TV input to hdmi 1 (cable) and back to 2 (ps4) and there was sound. Worked just fine ever since.

So, what is the likelihood we'll ever see disc-based backwards compatibility? Debating trading in my PS3 with the Best Buy promo, but that would leave me with games I'll never be able to play.

I got HDMI control setup last night, so I can use my Logitech Harmony remote to navigate for movies instead of the controller. Works perfectly. Magical.

In the process, I discovered that my TV has DLNA and just sees my Plex server. That works too. More magical.

Was a good night last night.

I think I have that issue where my PS4 doesn't stay in standby either. When I turned it on via the controller just now it booted like it normally does when it's off. I guess it's not a big deal since I don't plan on leaving it in standby very often but it kind of sucks it doesn't work like advertised.

Well considering the PS4 can read thediscs fine ( It can detect what game is in for the PS4 upgrade program ) its somewhat likely that if they don't make gaikai a subscription or if it is a subscription but they allow individual games to be bought without it that they may use the discs.

I could not for the life of my figure out what L3 and R3 are on Remote Play. How do you do it?

Bottom left and right on the back touch pad. On mine when I activate one of the rear touch buttons I get a small transparent image at the top of the screen sjowing the four button placements activated by the back touch.

some bravia needed firmware. seems fine if you are talkinga bout the text and such.
my samsung works fine.

If I own some 40" Bravia HDready TV (720p) out of 2005-ish, how big are the chances that I won't be able to play? I'd have no idea how to put firmware on that thing :/

Trying to hunt a ps4 down for my brother. They are no where to be found. They better ship a ton on black friday.
Most stores should be selling the pre-orders that people haven't picked up yet by now I'd assume. Try calling around asking about that

Video looked fine, crisp as ever. The sound was just completely fucked. If it is the PS4, this will be my first ever system that messes up this close to launch due to hardware failure. Only other occurrence I can remember of is my dad's PS2 that stopped reading discs in early 2001(?).
