PS4 Launch Thread [Thread being archived 1/1/14]

Quick question. I made a new account for my ps4, just cause I didn't like my old username and I wanted one that was related to breaking bad. Haha. Anyway, in my old account, I have about 5$ in there. Is it possible for me to use the 10$ included with the ps4, redeem it using my first account, buy a PSN game, but play it using my new main account?:) thanks!

Yes. Sign in with your old account, set your PS4 as its primary console, then redeem your code and buy a game. Hen sign in with your new account and play it - any account on that PS4 will be able to play

i cant make a thread: has this been mentioned already?
http://www.engadget.com/2013/11/22/playstation-4-vs-xbox-one/

Right now or this holiday, if you're buying a game console, you should buy a PlayStation 4. The game selection on both consoles is about equal, and the benefits the Xbox One offers outside of gaming currently aren't worth the extra dough. Even if you're all about live TV or fantasy sports, $500 is prohibitively expensive for a device that specializes in either (or both, for that matter).

The situation will change as time goes on, of course. When Titanfall launches in a few months, the Xbox One gets its must-own game and the PlayStation 4 is still missing that big system-selling hit. And prices will drop, and broadcasting will arrive, and any number of other things could change the equation. You're not making a mistake buying either console right now, but if you're looking for the best game console of the two to buy this holiday, the choice is clear. And, thankfully, less expensive.

i think its threadworthy, its the firstwebsite that actually gives a real answer to the question..

So out of the 9 PS4's we had at our shop we had 1 dead on arrival. They sent us a box to send back just the console - which we did. They ended up sending us back a brand new PS4 fully sealed with the controller all the wires and PSN codes etc.

The glossy part of my PS4 is heavily scratched.... no dents or anything, but hairline scratches you can only see in the right light. I'm into wabi-sabi and all that, so it doesn't bother me much, but it was kind of disappointing to get that out of the box.

When I go to upload screenshots or videos by holding down the share button, it's now giving me an error and kicking me out. Is everyone else having this problem?

Same here, but don't sweat it. It's impossible to keep it scratch free

Some Canadian walmarts got stock this morning. Stopped by around lunch and grabbed one! So excited. They had signs all over about it, and I saw at least a few other people buying at the same time. Looked really popular.

I'll post pics soon.

If you share a video to Facebook and make it private in FB can PSN users still see it in the what's new section?

Hmm, good question. I shared a video by FB, set it on "Only Me" as privacy setting, and i could see it on the "What's New", but i'm not sure if my friends could see it on their PS4.

After hotly anticipating the arrival of PS4, I have to say that a week on, I am left irritated and unhappy.

The two games I pre-ordered, Killzone and Battlefield, have been big letdowns for me. Killzone's single-player campaign was obnoxiously frustrating when it wasn't simply bland, and the multiplayer didn't do much for me, either.

BF4 is simply broken. Even post-patch, some modes do not work properly. I have no sound, glitchy sound, and frame drops. And the single player? I've had to restart that thing three times now due to the game inexplicably losing my save. I doubt I'll try it a fourth.

Killzone has already gone back to Amazon. BF4 might fly out my back door and into a bush upon posting this message. If I had known the next gen would start like this, I never would have bothered. I have a crap-ton of 360 and PS3 games to play, and even better, a whole spate of great new Wii U games.

How disappointing.

Try Resogun, Warframe is good fun as well. I have Assassin's Creed BF and am loving that. NFS is the sleeper hit of the console launch as well. Try more games! Although I disagree with you on BF4, I realize it has many problems, but the game is improving and when it works, it's amazing.

Yes, I'm installing AC4 now. And Resogun is truly wonderful. But that's an awfully thin launch. I've been there Day One or close for a lot of console launches, and never experienced so many problems.

Final thought, you should have waited if your expectations were unreasonably high, this is a console launch. We're the people who have to put up with the awkward waiting periods and technical hiccups.

For broadcasting you can actively select the quality. Default isn't the highest quality. For upload? No idea.

Yeah, I was referring to uploads. I'm not entirely sure if the quality when broadcasting is different from the one you see on Facebook.

Thank you for the answer!
I wonder why that is lol

when it is doing something, it is basically on, just not outputing video... when it isnt, then it is "real" standby where APU is off completely and it spends much lower amount of energy.
so obviously, since it is already on, it starts in a second or two...

pretty sure they are planning to speed up standby in the future, when suspend mode gets working, so will this.

I really hope more video sharing options come soon, I really dont want to create a silly Facebook account for this, if I do can I make some kind of really vanilla account just for this?

Apologies if this was answered previously but my Playroom is locked and keeps saying "Cannot start the application. This application can be started only by a user who has a license for it."

I was able to resolve this issue for Flower by renewing the license but it doesn't seem to be working here. Thoughts?

But you knew what kind of software lineup you were in for, whether it's BF4 or KZ:SF it's history just repeating itself. Just like previous launch lineups this one is mediocre too.

Hey guys, I'm having a surround sound issue with my PS4.

I have my PS4 connected to my TV, and my TV is connected to my A/V reciever. It's the exact same setup as my PS3, with both systems being connected to my TV through HDMI. However, on the PS3 I'm able to get 5.1 surround sound, whereas on the PS4 audio is only outputting in 2 Channel.

If I unplug the optical cable from my TV and plug it into my PS4 - so that the PS4 is connected to the reciever through optical - I'm given the option of Dolby Digital and DTS. Through HDMI, my only options are Linear PCM, Bitstream (Dolby) and Bitstream (DTS), neither of which are outputting at 5.1. I've tried it with games, blu-rays and Netflix, yet I can't seem to get 5.1 through HDMI. Anyone know how?

What does the Netflix interface look like? Anyone got any pics?

The PS4 interface is the same (or close to) the new interface Netflix rolled out to tv and other streaming devices recently:

Except BF4 is broken. EA shipped unfinished software. At least in the past, developers bothered to finish their games before shipping and selling them.

I have two questions:

1. Anyone else not getting 5.1 from Netflix? Games work fine but Netflix seems to only be stereo regardless of what Netflix tells me.

2. Can I charge the controller with a cellphone charger? I have one right next to where I sit but it obvious sends more power than the standard USB method. I don't want to damage the battery.

Guess I'm not the only one, and thanks for telling me this as I was on the verge of initializing console and redownloading everything on it to see if it would fix it (now I know it wouldn't)

I have good news though - five minutes ago I started PS4 and lo and behold, the correct newest name shows everywhere! I guess it just took time to propagate or something. Or the PSN was still recovering over the past few days.

great news :)

still the wrong name showing in What's New section for me , but it will be fantastic if it's just need few days to sort itself out.

thanks

Ya, I only get stereo with Netflix. Curious, are you able to get 5.1 for games through HDMI? I can only get it through optical.

Thanks for clarifying. Hopefully they get that mode up and running soon

I'm not sure if it's witchcraft or a supremacy over science and math, but this Vita remote play functionality is absolutely amazing. I thought it was pretty cool when I was navigating my PS4's UI while sitting 30 feet away on the shitter, but then when I really pushed it I found myself playing Assassins Creed IV while lying in my bed 2 floors up. Cerny you magnificent bastard.

I'll really be surprised if this functionality doesn't sell Vitas.

Just found out for Killzone you can jump straight to different multiplayer modes from the OS. Very nice. Hope more games will utilize that.

Has anybody seen this ?

Thing is, this is Wednesday afternoon. The PS4 launched at midnight Nov. 15, which was a Friday. Chiu had classes to attend on Thursday, and didn't bring a partner to hold his spot in the queue. "It was that evening when I was heading home that I was fully prepared to surrender my spot in line," he said, "because I couldn't do the thing where we line up outside on the sidewalk when we're in November and things are approaching winter temperatures."P

No problem. Sony said they'd save his space in line. "Sony was unbelievably gracious in letting me head home for the night and keeping my spot in line. I am eternally grateful for this.," Chiu said.P

The campout was no hardship tour, for Chiu or anyone else. First of all, it was catered. I mean where else but New York will someone give you free food for sitting on a sidewalk. Others in the line behind Chiu were from out of town, and Sony put them up at the hotel. "How awesome is that?" Chiu said.P
