PS4 Launch Thread [Thread being archived 1/1/14]

It seems vertical PS4s can run hotter (and make the fans work harder?) because one of the air vents ends up being blocked. As long as the area the PS4 in is well ventilated, I think it might be ok. If it really bothers you maybe go horizontal?

Not too much, but a little bit (its more extense, and it can occupy a nice space of my desk). Also, it looks really nice in Vertical.

And the table wood, right below it (where is that air vents that you said) seems normal, is not too much warmed. At the air exist, the console continuously blows an warm air, but very silent.

So, is it really that safe to use the console in horizontal?
Also, is that really recommended to let it in stand-by?

Really hoping they fix the video issues soon. Was playing FIFA and I was laughing to myself when the other team scored and the keeper came up running like an excited 5 year old, skipping and waving his arms about... Then dropkicked the goalscorer.

I hit share after the match and nothing in that FIFA session had been captured. It was still NBA 2k14 footage.

For my Dutch friends, Saturn.nl has all PS4 games on discount now for 42 euros.

...which is fucking insane, considering they were 69 bucks just a few days ago.

All 26 hours. Multiple times.
I cant seem to find a thread thats better suited for my question so im going to put this here:

regarding the HDMI CEC functionality

Is anybodys CEC functionality working fully on the BD player?
Like, on PS3 i can start and stop, ff and rewind with my AVR remote. Thats ace, so I dont need the ds3 or a ps3 remote to watch blurays.
Not so with PS4. CEC functionality is there, arrow keys are working in the PDM and in the BD Player, but play/pause, ff, rewind are not.
Is it just me or ist this not implemented completly yet?

I hope this will be coming in a future update as its really comfortable and works flawless otherwise.

it seems this thread is no longer populated enough for my niche question :(
Wen need a "PS4 OS Questions and Answers" thread. but I cant make one :/

Quick question, if I put my PS4 vertical, the bottom side would face left correct? And I agree we need a PS4 help thread, this one sadly seems to have fallen off :(

How are you guys finding the communities on BF4 and CoD?

Not looking for numbers per se, just impressions on finding games in different game types...that sort of thing.

I told myself I was going to wait a year to see how each system was adopted by the communities playing 3rd party multiplayer games, but it's getting hard to wait already.

Additionally, does anyone have both systems for comparisons sake? Probably not, but it's worth asking. thanks

Who should I complain to if I want the iOS version of the PlayStation App to be added to my local AppStore?

Sony I'd guess. They might be localising it to your language before they launch it. Maybe Apple though if it's stuck in their certification queue.

I know you didn't ask for numbers . But, here is an easy stat for bf for all platforms that updates
http://bf4stats.com

No idea about cod

I have both system but don't have bf for bone so can't help ;p

Thanks guys. The prudent thing is to wait of course. Getting hard though. I managed to wait a year after release to buy each system last gen, and that's probably what I should do this gen as well. Whole thing is moot anyhow given availability at the moment.

Impressions on playing on PS4:

I've played a few matches of Extinction, the people I played with were Americans (I'm Australian) they were very friendly. No swearing just straight up had a good chat.

On multiplayer, there have been games were no-one talks... But the games were people actually chat have been pretty good. Haven't came across any screaming teens or any kids.

Finding games been pretty quick to be honest. Takes no more than 20 secs to get into a lobby. I'm mostly hooked on playing infected on ghosts thought. Very addictive game mode, the only downside is that there where only 149 people playing two hours ago.

I shat all over Killzone earlier in this thread, mainly due to its poor design. But it's growing on me somewhat as I play further through the game. The atmosphere is really something quite special, and I'd recommend playing this game with a good surround system or headphones (plugged in to the DS4) as the sound really draws you in to the world.

The unlocked framerate is still frustrating however, and I do wonder why everyone is taller than me. I have to check I'm not crouching all the time, very strange. The design, story, motion-capture, cut-scenes, character modelling and voice-acting still all feel very clunky and need to be massively improved. But, the scope and variety of the environments and the atmosphere almost bring it back for me. I'd like to say "I wonder what they could do with a sequel", before remembering this is the fourth game in the series.

I have no idea why everyone is sh*tting over Killzone: Shadowfall. I think it's pretty great and that's a lot coming from me since I general can't stand playing first person shooters. I love the fact that it's not just constant run and gun the whole time with great mission variety. On hard is provides some real tension and tactical bite. The music, atmosphere and graphics are great and it has a cutting edge feel to it. My mates and I are having a great time with it. I really don't think it deserves the bad rep.

Yes, the disc drive/hdd should be 'top'.

Okay thanks, I will try and see how it works. I plan to build my own elevated "vertical-stand" somehow so the side-vent stays free though I'm still scared about negative side-effects from having it vertical... if I only had more space to put it horizontal :(

Who should I complain to if I want the iOS version of the PlayStation App to be added to my local AppStore?

If you don't mind a bit hassling around, go to your iTunes settings on your iDevice and change your AppStore country to US, install the Playstation App and change back to your local country.

Just as a warning, after you changed your country, wait about 10 minutes before you download anything from the AppStore so your login expires and you have to re-enter your password, else it will complain about you being in the wrong country.

Put blacklight on download through the browser, saw the orange standby light pulsate a few times then went back to the normal standby light. Guess it is downloading now?

Has anyone had a large amount of trouble getting their PS4 Nat to type 1, or none restrictive? no matter what i do i can't get it off type 3.

I've done all the port forwarding and info i can find for various games, and even placed my PS4 into my DMZ but the PS4 network setup, Warframe and CoD:Ghosts are all telling me my nat is still restrictive, heck even party chat is!

I never had an isssue with this with previous consoles, is there something really obvious i'm missing or has anyone found an odd trick that worked for the?

Check if it says "Downloading" in the Download Queue on the web browser.

My PS3 has always said "Type 2". Everything worked OK so I've never tried to change it.

Ok, it did download. Turned on ps4 and it is already installed. 2:10-2:20. Very quick for PSN.
Edit downloaded 4GB direct from PSN, now downloading another 1GB whilst playing which is going to take triple the time of the 4GB lol. Fuck this background download shit.

Even type 2 would be better.

This won't help you (sorry in advance), but I never changed anything about my router. I just plugged my PS3 (360, PS4 etc) into my router/modem (Virgin Super Hub, UK) and it just says Type 2. Could you of maybe made an error in the entries and it's causing it to be restrictive? Maybe remove all you've changed and see if starting again helps? Technically ignorant with network stuff I am afraid. The only port forwarding I ever did was with Xbox (1) for Live games.

Ill test it and see, but i think what you described is accurate based on what i read, not all functionalityu has been implemented yet.

I never knew this, that's cool :) Handy for when you're away from home (working from home so downloaded Black Light through web browser, easier).

Yeah, very cool. When it's finished downloading, it will say "Playable" and then you can remove it from the queue.

Yeah, this one was only a few gig. The actual PSN downloads have been rapid for me, hopefully there's no slow-ass in-game downloading required.

My PS4 is extremely silent [like, no difference since regular standby], I don't even know if it's actually downloading. The PSN browser says so, but somehow I'm not sure.

If it's actually downloading while the PS4 is this silent then that's mighty impressive.

See my edit..

I shall rechristen you Bad News Addnan.

Wish that would just download in stand-by mode initially rather than having to boot up the game once and then it'll download in standby.

Mine just turns the fans on in a very mild fashion, can only hear it if I put my ear to it.

So bizarre we're all getting different results with regards to fan noise.

Huh. Everyones PS4 seems to be different. Mine is silent in standby, but I can hear the fan on it now whilst its downloading. So weird. Some bugs with it by the sound of things.

Mine can be whisper silent at times but be rather noisy at others when the fan really kicks in or the disc is spinning. This is in vertical too.

There now seems to have been a volume controls addition to the Home menu (long press PS button) for something, not sure what it's for though. I thought it may have been the menu music but there didn't seem to be any difference from low to high...

Looking on the website it says my Download Queue is empty which means it's finished downloading, but my switch is still flashing loads for network activity and the PS4 is humming away still. Would it be installing now?

Edit:
Fan slowed right down
Orange LED pulsed a few times
System 'clicked' off
Now no fan at all with static orange LED on.

So remote downloads are working fine, that's great!

Sony need to give us the option of just downloading a giant file direct from PSN store without the play while you download. I really don't need that, a lot here also have internet good enough to get 50GB in 2 hours of less. This is just making it frustratingly slow. Blacklight obviously doesn't matter too much since it is only 1GB background download, but games where it downloads 40+ in the background should not take me 24 fucking hours.

Yup. My NBA 2k14 was a lot quicker than yours, but it still shouldn't have to be overnight on a 120mbit line. Really need to sort that out, Killzone was slow as hell as well. It's just not really an issue on a linear single-player game as you can just crack on while the game downloads itself.

Really wish I brought my Vita to work today just to boot up Blacklight and start that download. Can you do anything during this download?

Okay I fired up my PS4 to see what was going on and it actually was downloading Blacklight. It never finished because my router crashed 10 minutes ago. It even downloaded a Playroom update half an hour ago. My mind is blown by how I didn't notice a thing while everything was downloading, my PS4 is literally standing right next to me.

Mine's in horizontal and when coming out standby and a disc in in the drive or when starting up a game from disc, my disc drive spinning for a solid 2 minutes before quieting down.

After the 2 minutes it's completely silent but still much longer than I wanted it to be, some people are saying theirs only spins for about 10 seconds. Oh well.
