I don't know if you have it yet or not but I would suggest Need For Speed: Rivals. That and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag have been my most played PS4 games so far.
 
My Ps4 likes to scare me from time to time.
A few days ago the blu ray drive stopped working. I booted the Ps4 and it told me that there was no disc inside(but AC4 was inside), I couldn't eject the disc. Neither with the button on the console nor with the "eject disc" option.
A reboot fixed it.
Today I booted the Ps4 and I couldn't log onto the Ps4 and the UI started lagging horribly. it took me a few minutes to shut the system off, but it went into white pulsating mode and didn't turn off. After holding the power button for a few secs it turned off, when I restarted it it told me I shouldn't pull the power plug... but it worked fine again.

This and BF4 crashing every 2-3 matches makes me feel like a beta tester.
But I'm still pretty happy with the console.

Yep, the Mixamp 5.8 needs a proprietary 3.5mm to USB cable to do chat on PS3/PS4 and PC through USB. Don't think you can buy it anymore though... Alternatively you can buy an Astro PC splitter which will separate the headphone jack on the A40's to separate headphone and mic jacks, then run the mic jack to the DS4 controller.
 
well this sucks, I realize this is an odd problem to discover over 2 weeks after I got my system but I hadn't put any discs in before

I had a free Redbox rental expiring so I rented a movie and decided to watch it on my PS4, all my gaming and movie watching on the system until tonight has been digital, and it told me "unrecognized disc"

I thought maybe it's just because it's a rental disc and proceeded to try several movies from my personal collection and it says the same for all of them :( I have a dud system don't I?

you have to connect online when you put in a bluray/dvd once? i think.

Will I be able to watch Blu-ray movies on PS4?

I updated the system day 1 when I got it on November 15th and it's been online ever since, that isn't the problem

I tried both blu-rays and dvds and it says the same for everything :( I don't have any game discs to try unfortunately since I went all digital
 
well the last thing you should try is rent a game if that really fails then you will have to call sony or something.

what re the odds of going all digital before even trying the dead disc drive D:
 
Mine also said there's no LAN connection even though it showed I had a perfectly fine connection. So had to restart it. This is one weirdo console.

But what I'm really curious about is, if any of YOU guys have a "clicking" noise, which probably stems from the fan? It's only there, when the fan is at the medium level and not while loading a disc. It's mostly noticeable in the OS menu right when you have started the device - and no, I'm not talking about the "beep" sound while turning it on and off.

Do any of you have that "clicking" sound? Or should I go exchange it?

FWIW i tried to movies yesterday, Cars and Kung fu Panda and none worked, i've been playing disc based games online and off since friday. I read the bluray player had some issues but it still came as a surprise that the two movies i tried didn't work. I'm gonna try other movies tomorrow to see if they work.

time to join the dark side if you haven't. or just place a vita next to you if you want to communicate with ps4 brethrens as it allows you to chat it up.

The PS4 is a strange creature. I have owned all 3 next gen consoles at launch, and while it's the most well received by others, it's the one I've been least entertained by. I'm already antsy for the exclusives of the future, but it's going to be a bit of a painful wait...
 
I wish there was a way to disable this download while you play crap. I get much much better speeds downloading straight from the PSN store. Could have been playing NBA2K14 within 2-3hours. This background crap has been going on for 14+ hours.
 
So I saw one of these in the flesh today. Actually I saw an Xbone for the first time too, but it was in a display cabinet so I didnt get to see the back of it.

Anyway the PS4. Are people enamored about the look of it? I could not get my head around the shape of it, it looked weird in pictures but when I saw it in person I actually kind of thougt it was even worse. I was also curious to see the ports on the back of it, particularly the HDMI to see what the story was with the whole HDMI port thing that was talked about at the US launch it well, it looked surprisingly cheap. None of the ports looked properly seated in the plastic chasis, they were crooked and all over the place, the HDMI port was actually on an angle. All ports looked really cheap too.

I wanted to see if the Xbone was the same way but like I said it was in a display cabinet.

Dont get the feeling this thing is anywhere near the quality of the original PS3, that looked really sharp. This PS4 looks kind of ugly by comparison and I dont recall the PS3 looking as poorly put together.

Is this fairly normal or indicative all the consoles out there?

Anyway, setting a "primary account" - I was under the impression that you were setting a primary PS4 for your account rather than a primary account for your PS4. Therefore both my Mrs' account and mine are "primary".

Edit: Been doing some reading. Is it right that as a Plus subscriber, my girlfriend can login with her non-Plus PSN account and play online because it is my primary system and I subscribe? An I reading that right? Basically, we don't both have to buy Plus?

Since I didn't see a reply anywhere: Yes, you're right :) A Plus account is shared by all users on that console. If your girlfriend gets her own PS4, she can't play the games on that console until she gets her own Plus account though.

Okay? As soon as I took it out of the box I made a different experience. It looked and felt better as I imagined from photos and videos.
I didn't like the plastic top of the original PS3 though, that made it look cheap imo.

Overall the PS4 "feels" better than any other console standing around here.

That's brilliant! She used to hate not being able to play online with her own account on the 360!

I liked it, but I'm one of the few people who liked the look of the original XBox and purple Gamecube too, so I'm a bit weird like that according to some people.

I know what you mean about the ports on the display units, but the ones on mine look perfect. I don't know if the display ones were rushed out, or if the ones that are supposedly made in Japan are of a slightly better quality.

Was thinking the same, but worked out that Killzone worked out cheaper on US Amazon anyway even with the discount.
 
Help me GAF. I am either going insane with paranoia, or my Bravia TV is a victim of the blurry PS4 Dynamic Menu text.

I have the KDL-46X4500 model that is the European version of the KDL-46XBR8 (at least that's the theory). There is no official TV firmware update to the TV to be found on the European sites. But there is some kind of an update available for the US version.

If someone has this same model of TV and has a similar experience with the PS4 image quality, please let me know.

I doubt someone beside me has a TV this ancient.

I don't really think much of the design of the console, the shape doesn't look good to me and the plastic makes it seam cheap and it isn't as small as people made out. Now it is in my TV stand though I don't really look at it, the X1 gives the impression of being more solid and I like the understated look of the front with the soft glowing white logo.
 
US GAF ,a friend is in New York coming back on Sat. ,are there any game shops that have PS4s available on shelves you aware of ?

PS. If not I believe Dualhocks can be found almost everywhere ,right?

Yeah, Best Buy had a ton when I went along with charging stations. They only had two different PS4 games for sale though... (no Knack at all!)
 
I got my PS4 yesterday. Initial impressions:

The controller is totally awesome imo, best controller I've tried yet.

I really like the UI too, more so than I thought I would, it's slick and fast and kind of logical even though it's all rearanged from PS3.

Resogun is fantastic! It might not be a system seller since it's a niche game but it's definitely worthy of all the prelaunch hype and praise.

I have Killzone, AC4 and NFS too but I haven't played much yet because of Resogun's awesomeness, the install time on Killzone was insanely short though, like 1 minute or something like that, I said wow.

The console is a bit noisy though, somewhere between slim and phat I'd say, but I kind of assumed it would be so since it's so small so I'm not too annoyed at it right now, I might be if it's loud during BD playback though but I haven't tried that yet. The fan spins at standby (yellow light) too which was odd, is it the same for everyone else? Maybe I have too much features active for standby use, internet access and controller charhing etc?
 
I don't know if I am the only one but I am quite baffled Sony decided to go with "This is for the players" tagline for PS4. Players and gamers have 2 very different meanings. If it's not obvious players is already defined as someone who manipulates women for pleasure so it is quite disrespectful and I feel it will alienate female gamers. If I were Sony I'd change it to "This is for the gamers" to appeal to everyone and not just guys, and you know because it makes sense to say gamers.

That just leaves it all to the person to interpret. The players to me are the ones who play the games. Us. The enthusiast gamers as well as casual. Kind of a catch all phrase.
