For a extra 400 on top of what I already paid for my OG PS4? Not really, rather use that on a meaty GPU upgrade.

A meaty GPU upgrade like....something 2.2x the power of your previous one? :O
Yeah that's basicly what it is. With a lot of other improvements.
But ofcourse you can also save the money to upgrade a PC. To each their own.
No doubt there messaging has been weird for me personally , which has led to very little hype.
In summary , what does the ps pro offer me if I don't own a 4K tv and already own a PS4?
Apologies if this has been asked already in this thread .
- 4k support for games *upscale and native*
- All pro games will run in 1080p resolution minimum, with PS4 or higher framerates, some will even run in a higher resolution (supersample) and/or with more graphical effects.
- 1080p60 RemotePlay/SharePlay
- Will support 1080p video at 60 frames per second for broadcasting
- 4K screenshots
- Netflix 4k support
- Enhanced support for PSVR (higher resolution and/or more graphical effects)
- 5GHz Wi-Fi. support* for PS4 Slim and PS4 pro*
- Support for SATA Rev.3

The GPU upgrade on the PS4Pro is not even remotely worth 400. I'd be able to get a GPU for my PC that severely outmatches it for that price.
The fact that the GPU "upgrade" for PS4 doesn't actually make the vast majority of all games released so far actually get better IQ and framerates, that makes the value even worse.
I still don't understand - how will software quality suffer ? What are these bad incentives ? What is changing ? A base PS4 owner has no reason to be alarmed unless, like you said, they care about graphics and power.

It's quite simple really. Resources, time and money are finite in game development. Game development as is can hardly fit x amount of work by release. Do you not wonder why Day 1 patches exist? Do you not wonder why people complain about obvious bugs that still ship with the game? So with x amount of tasks, this is already happening. Now you want to have x + y amount of work. If x amount of work is already causing crunch, day 1 patches, and still bugs, why does anyone think adding more work within those same restrictions doesn't cause something to give somewhere else? That's how software quality potentially suffers. This has nothing to do about complexity of the work. It's about the time and resources to do it while doing everything else. In the scope of things, Pro support is low on the priority list given everything else that needs to get done. The more enhancement you want, the more of that time, and resources that get taken away from the rest of the game.
A GTX1060 is probably slightly better than a PS4 Pro and costs about $250. That GPU will play all current PS4 games at 1080p60 with full effects on where as the PS4 Pro will not.
Well.. not all of them![]()
it's not more selfish than you wanting it.
I feel iterative consoles will hurt the overall quality and experience of consoles. I think smartphones are a very good example of a situation we should want to avoid with consoles.
because those options have side effects that I think are detrimental to console gaming.
I'm saying iterative consoles will have detrimental effects on the experience of console gaming and the quality of software. People bring up the ecosystems of smartphones as something consoles should aspire to. I think this is the worst possible path and if it happens I will indeed jump ship and stop buying consoles.
I also hoped dlc and microtransactions would fail miserably. it didn't and look where we are now.
wow
Well, you get a whole lot more than a GPU....The GPU upgrade on the PS4Pro is not even remotely worth 400. I'd be able to get a GPU for my PC that severely outmatches it for that price.

If I already own a PS4, a better GPU is basically all i'm aqquiring if I buy a Pro, yes.Well, you get a whole lot more than a GPU....
And yes it requires a patch for a game to take advantage of it. This is not a pc.
But you made your pc point. Don't worry, we all know.
I just want to play Ps4 exclusives in the best way. No pc does that so it's the only option right now.
What GPU do you recommend i get for my PC to run Uncharted 4 at 4k?
Oh,,,,wait
Dude, you're honestly fighting a losing battle and increasingly sounding like a dinosaur. The Pro is happening, it'll sell well and we'll get a PS5 in a few years. Iterative is the way forward now, accept it and no-one is stopping you from keeping your OG PS4. Or, as you threaten to, go play on a PC/smartphone.
Ah right. I understand. If I already own a PS4, a better GPU is basically all i'm aqquiring if I buy a Pro, yes.
I already completed Uncharted 4 and I don't have any interest on playing it again at 4K ¯_(ツ_/¯
Ah right. I understand.
And i think a lot of people with a PS4 will think the same.
No doubt there messaging has been weird for me personally , which has led to very little hype.

That Crapgamer dude is claiming he has "multiple reports PS4 Pro is being delayed" due to "overheating issues". Never mind I believe it's being mass produced as we speak. Why this turd has subscribers is beyond me.

Why don't we wait until it's actually out and see how well it sells before making such definitive claims that it's a done deal?

I've got a 4k TV so I may trade in my ps4 for a pro. Was just wondering would it look better to play in 4K or make it 1080 with enhancements?
The entire point of his channel is to intentionally spread false information. No one with any sense has ever taken him seriously. Don't give him any attention.
Sure. I can only justify it by selling my PS4.Like, the PS4Pro by itself is pretty damn good deal if you're buying the PS4 for the first time. But as someone who already had bought a regular PS4 for 400 before, it doesn't justify other 400. Especially when my favorite games on the system are not getting a Pro patch.
Interesting comment from Cerny, in Gamasutra interview:
http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/283611/Inside_the_PlayStation_4_Pro_with_Mark_Cerny.php#tophead
What we do for the legacy games, if you want to play a game from 2-3 years ago that hasn't been patched or tested, is we just run that at 1.6 gigahertz, said Cerny.
If this comment means what I hope it means, that's really good news. I was suggesting Sony should do whitelisting for games that they test and confirm to work fine in Pro mode.
iirc poster is hoping Sony will whitelist older unpatched games in future or give user option to run them and am guessing the tested ones that work they are hoping it would run unlocked on Pro.I can tell you exactly what it means but I have no idea what you hope it means.
It means that non-pro games will run exactly as they would on a regular ps4.
What he says is that games that are not patched OR not tested (I bolded that) will run in legacy mode. I don't know if it was a slip of a tongue or somehow misreported, but that's what the quote is.I can tell you exactly what it means but I have no idea what you hope it means.

In that case, I think he'd say "patched and tested", but again quotes and all, so who knows. As for whitelisting, it would only add some work to Sony's QA team, to a good benefit to every owner of the console, not to mention the goodwill it would generate for next to no effort from their end.I saw it as a statement that an unpatched game is implicitly untested and must run in standard mode. To have old games tested and cleared for near-pro status would ad a layer of complexity to things without much benefit to anyone.
Next to no effort eh?It would only add some work to Sony's QA team, to a good benefit to every owner of the console, not to mention to goodwill it would generate for next to no effort from their end.

Next to no developer effort. You just need people to play the games. If they become glitchy or crash, cross them off them list, and play the next one. They wouldn't even need to do this for all the games, just a bunch of high profile ones that are not getting a patch AND also have unstable performance (no need to do it for games that are already running at or near their capped framerate). Hell, they could crowdsource this in the beta firmware. Everyone would be doing it for free.Next to no effort eh?
