Helps with AA, helps with Texture Resolution from what I understand
Do we even know if Durango has 8GB of RAM?
Do we even know if Durango has 8GB of RAM?
AFAIK, the latency on both is low enough that it doesn't matter anymore.Low latency vs high bandwidth.
I suspect there won't be a huge visual difference between multiplatform games on both systems as has been the case this generation. But we'll see. This is going to be an unpopular answer but despite there being a real tangible difference in performance, the types of games/gameplay and what will be possible on either platform wont really change to a significant degree.

Not sure if it's the same thing you're saying, but 90+% of the time this gen, the difference has been in performance and some minute details visually. It'll probably be the same thing again.I suspect there won't be a huge visual difference between multiplatform games on both systems as has been the case this generation. But we'll see.

Confirmed vs. rumor?
Suddenly everyone is an expert on RAM.
I think Durango will have a leg up when it comes to development. Using ddr 3 ram the developers can create games now with a pc while the ps4 developers have to wait till they have a development kit with 8 gigs of gddr5 in it. I mean in terms of power and graphics.
Suddenly everyone is an expert on RAM.
Is that because MS will force their version to look equal to the competition? Meaning we'll only see a difference on PC? Wasn't this a rumour/fact going around?
More importantly, confirmed specs VS. 12 month old specs.
Dont want to thread whine but the same question has been asked in multiple ways previously, maybe we can stick to this thread?

PS4 has access to 5.8 GB of ram per frame at 30 FPS
X720 has access to 2.27 GB of ram per frame at 30 FPS
Pretty big difference on paper. PS4 is a beast. Seems sony made a last minute change and hope MS will follow. Would be awesome if the x720 can beat the power of the ps4.
The bar is pretty high now.
Come on. Everything about Orbis turned out to be true, right on down to devs thinking it was going to be 4 and that it might at the last minute get a bump to 8. I'm not saying take everything about Durango as gospel, but I have a hard time believing the leaks about one are so dead-on and wouldn't be about the other. And no, I don't think people are leaking year old specs and features. I think they're leaking what they know now to be true.
I thought the GB per frame figure is derived from the available bandwidth? So PS4's doubling of RAM won't affect this figure.
Yes. But the recent 4GB info on PS4 was not 12 months old. The roadmap leak was very recent.
Ilherre said the current leaks that we have now (The ones from VGleaks are from February 2012)
Ram amount is most important. PS4 has the edge since it has less devoted to OS.
That's the thing, we're getting leaks still from people we presume have access to the specs, or access to someone with the final specs, and they're saying the same thing. It's more than possible that what Microsoft planned 12 months ago is what they went with.
if the amount was most important they would use flash & make a big page file but that's not the case & both Bandwidth & Size is important.
On paper the PS4 edges the 720 out in every department. The multiplats should look noticeably better on it, they have to.
MS is in trouble if the rumored specs are accurate.
It's not just a difference in RAM right? There is also a GPU difference.
It's possible. Or maybe things have changed.
Sony has already showed that anything can change despite what the most credible insiders can tell you. Even from first party devs.
How can it not? IF you only have 4GB how can you access more than that?
I'm sure Sony will stress the fact that multiplats will easily look better on their system, the masses may not care but the gamers surely will. MS can't rely only on the "masses", their machine is still seen as a game console after all and the Xbox brand has been very successful, thanks to who ?Unless MS is right in thinking that the masses couldnt give a shit about slight differences in multiplats or specs, and in fact care more about services/options.
Good luck to MS, they are going to need it. I used to see them as very clever when it comes to console business...Now I'm not so sure. That's their gamble. And by making that gamble, they're now not just competing with Sony, but also a future Apple device that we all know is going to be given the benefit of the doubt when it releases.
