PS4 Ram vs. Durango Ram: How big of a difference does it make?

8gig of DDR3 don't matter.

8gig of GDDR5 won't matter.

All matters is do you a machine that plays the next HALO or UNC?HARTED.

Basically, which platform has the hit games. The most powerful hardware has never sold the most in a console generation or had the most market share. This is why I think that hardware arguments in console gaming are ultimately pointless because how that hardware is used is ultimately up to the developer, not the consumer. It's not like comparing one washing machine against another -- all washing machines clean the same clothes, all consoles play different games.

Even in the case of multiplatform games, they're all probably just going to target the lowest common denominator.

Why do people keep saying that. 360 had better multiplatform performance through out this GEN. And sales reflected people going for better Multiplatform version. Its very important at the end of the day. Imagine how close PS3/360 were power related but even a little difference made a difference in performance and sales.

From what I understand it's not designed for that.

Can you expand on that? I understand that the embedded RAM helps alleviate bandwidth issues, but seems to me that tile based rendering would be most efficient in the use of the embedded RAM.

I'm surprised the internet hasn't done the typical pissed Hitler video about the RAM. I was certain somebody make a video where Hitler is told PS4 has 8 GB RAM, he doesn't mind since the Durango will have it too, but is then told it is GDDR5 and he loses his shit. It would perfectly personify the last few days of GAF and GDDR5 craze.

If you really think even 5% of those people had any idea who Digital Foundry were or which version was considered to have slightly shinier pixels, well, I don't know what to tell you. I guess Europeans are much worse informed than Americans, but only on the continent.

The 360 WAS the lowest common denominator. It didn't get better versions of multiplatform games because the PS3 hardware was inferior. It got better versions because it was the most similar to what western developers were used to -- the PC. The PS3 was simply so exotic that developers had to go through a learning curve.

Sort of the opposite happened last gen. The PS2 was the lowest common denominator with dominant sales, but it was also an exotic machine to develop for. Most multiplatform games lead on PS2 and then ported to Xbox and Gamecube, and in many cases the Xbox and Gamecube versions were indeed visually superior, sometimes markedly so in the case of Xbox. And yet, most people still went with the PS2 version.

Also this. Most people probably just buy Xbox because all their friends are on Live. Achievements could be another reason. Those people are tied into the Live service, not superior ports.

We'll see if Durango can Dodge the Ram issue.

I hope so cause it's fucking pathetic. I don't even think when Wii U's RAM bandwidth was revealed we had as much insanity.

Durango can move about 2+ Gig per frame @30th. That's discounting the eSRAM.
