So you don't actually know if what you previously said is true.

So you don't actually know if what you previously said is true.

Am I on trial for crimes against stability updates?

Of course I can't prove stability updates fix problems with previous updates, which is exactly why I'm being cross examined by a military tribunal right now. When people see you make a claim they know you can't prove, and they don't like you saying it, they pounce.

Let me remind you this entire exchange began with me responding to someone PRAISING stability updates. Someone saying we should be grateful for them. I knocked down that ridiculous claim and explained why it was ridiculous. This isn't news. The PS3/PS4 firmware situation is a mess and Sony have done nothing to improve it. If they had we wouldn't have 5 stability updates and a couple semi meaningful ones this year.

All the other devices I own don't follow the same pattern.

Honestly, they should use a system similar to Google Play Services, where they can update critical system APIs without needing a whole system-wide OS reinstall.

It's not, though. check out the acid tests.

The PS4 browser is vastly superior to the PS3 one in virtually every regard including speed, standards compliance, and features. The only failings is that the PS3 browser is still hanging on to a crappy flash plugin from 5+ years ago of a version that Adobe stopped supporting approximately the day the plugin hit the PS3. So old websites that still support that still work, making it seem like the PS3 browser is halfway decent if you care about a website that supports old flash (like homestarrunner.com). If the PS4 browser supported any audio codecs at all for HTML5 audio it'd be in a much nicer place, and that's clearly a business decision (can't have people playing music on it that doesn't come from Music Unlimited).

I'm certainly not comparing it to the ps3 browser as that was...well...awful. However when I go to rdio.com (again, as an example), and I get an "out of memory" error before it can even finish loading the first page, then its an issue. Something the 360 browser handles without an issue at all. Plus, there's no way to flush the browser out of memory, so loading two or three YouTube videos then going back to the xmb almost grinds the whole OS to a halt.

Hey how would the PS4 perform at playing video files saved on a NAS? My PS3 is great at it, except for having to convert .mkv files to .m2ts. Also, I heard that the xbone has/is getting .mkv support?

It's weird that you stuck by it then. I guess I'll end the "trial" by the "tribe", whatever that means.

OS patches have been incremental since late PS3 days. Stability fixes (a lot of them are security related but how a troll could comprehend that - not you of course) aren't the size of full OS install. They patch only certain files on the OS partition.

Hmmmm. I hope I missed the part about folders, or that they simply haven't announced it. Also all of the clutter that I don't care about and have to scroll through needs to go.

When people see you make a claim they know you can't prove, and they don't like you saying it, they pounce.

Yes, typically when you make a claim and treat it as factual, with no way to actually prove said fact, people tend to call you out on it. Shocking huh?

People are OK with updates if they actually add useful features. Stability updates are not useful features. Printer functionality is not a useful feature.
You don't think the ability to print your photos to a USB printer is a useful feature? Have you told the millions of people who bought USB printers to print their photos?

The PS3 firmware updates added a shitload of useful features, especially in the first few years. Look for yourself:
http://us.playstation.com/support/systemupdates/ps3/history/

Yes Sony is the victim
People who like regular firmware updates are the victim. That's me :(

The PS3/PS4 firmware situation is a mess and Sony have done nothing to improve it.
The firmware updates for the PS3 were brilliant and added a shitload of useful stuff. I can't even think of another device that had firmware updates that so dramatically improved it over the course of its life as with the PS3.

So BruiserBear managed to derail the thread again?

Maybe you should create another thread AGAIN to discuss this other topic instead of derailing this one AGAIN.

Nobody knows at the moment. There is no ETA on the feature for PS4.

Yes, Xbox has it since the October Update for play MKV via USB/DLNA

Yup. What's your point?

I suppose one point might be that this is a thread about the PS4 2.0 update, not one where we are discussing what the Xbox does or doesn't do - there is a thread for that to avoid shitting up threads like this - oh, you made that other thread so you must know that already, my bad.

And once again this thread has gone to shit because BruiserBear doesn't know what he's talking about.

You do realize how obnoxious you're being, right?

Can we use the USB Music Player to plug in an iPhone and play Spotify?

no. But in theory if your phone appears as a USB mass storage device, you could play music stored on that

actually, being able to use a phone/tablet to stream music sounds more useful to me than DLNA support. Let me connect via bluetooth or maybe wifi and use any app I like to play music. That would be brilliant.

Great, he's become the elected voice of the "people" now! Thank fuck whoever is in charge didn't waste my time by sending me a ballot slip to let me choose who should speak out on my behalf!!

You need to have a music folder inside the USB device (Same way for PS3).. no biggie but it could make plugging devices useless unless they have the ability to create folders - and put files (music) in them.

He's either a master class troll or...I don't even want to consider the other possibility.

Bruiser's OS crusade is breathtaking.

I've never seen anything like it for sure.

firmware 2.0 does have a youtube app, doesn't it? I am anxious to see what happens when i try to play a 4k youtube video. Cerny said ps4 would support 4k videos. I may switch that background color to this nice pimpin purple!

Yeah, a native YouTube app is coming with this update.

And I agree with purple. Team purple 4 EVAH!

In the end, there can only be one.

I've got another good idea for an update, fix the fucking share button. Once again it didn't work last night for me, and I was legitimately upset as I really wanted to save this clip. There's a button on the controller dedicated to this feature and it doesn't even work. Jesus

Yeah, this. So many good BF4 moments lost forever. The other day I ran into a funny glitch while playing TEW and couldn't save it. That error now only shows up every once in a while (a month ago it would happen everyday) but it still isn't 100% fixed.

It's been fixed since June, it's just that it doesn't fix games that are built using older SDKs, like Battlefield 4.

What game? I had lots of problem with the share feature on Watch_dogs, the captures were all over the place. But it's worked flawlessly on Tomb Raider, Trials Fusion and Diablo 3 etc. Not sure if it's game related or if I've been lucky with most games, or unlucky with Watch_dogs.

No, it's definitely not fixed. It captured fourteen seconds last night instead of fifteen minutes (Rogue Legacy), and last week, two and half minutes instead of fifteen (Diablo 3? I think, could've been RL again). I've captured the full fifteen minutes fine in Rogue Legacy before, but lately it hasn't been working at all.

Hmm that explains it then. BF4 still gives me problems, but more recent games don't (with the exception of TEW, although that only happened once).

Reminds me of the time when Amir0x pointed his bs when it came to Peggle 2. Broke every law of logic and reality just to avoid admitting he was wrong.

PS4 Webkit based html5 browser may not support AUDIO tag but VIDEO playing mp4(h264,aac) files are fine. It would be quite easy to provide transcoding php/jsp/asp.net page for audio files. Run through ffmpeg transcoding mp3_to_aac with an empty video stream. Mux to mp4 container or .ts stream. Even better create a mediadetails.jpeg and use that for videostream. Sure someone has already done it?

Did Plex already published video content through DLNA and html pages and it works in a PS4 browser. I remember someone mentioning it earlier. This is how people publish videos from "dlna" server, either batch process html-videos.html page links to mp4 files or dynamic server scripting.

Yeah, Plex works decently in the PS4 browser, but for videos only. Main problem is that it locks up the browser when you try to change subtitles or languages, and resume may be broken currently. Other than that, full screen, any format Plex supports, HD, no problem.
