PS4 System Software Preview – USB Music Player, New Home Screen Colors, More

I can. For two simple reasons. 1. Sony isn't a software company. 2. The PS3 and PS4 run completely different hardware architecture and system OS.

Personally, I don't think that excuse flies any more. PSN is a paid service now, and with the history they have with the PS3 and the accumulated experience they should've gotten (both on what their paying customers would like to have, and acquired software expertise over the years), I think it's fair to have certain expectations on what the product actually offers.

MS is slaughtering them when it comes to updates, which can probably be ascribed to their software experience, but there's no reason why it should take a year to deliver one of the main features they promised before the launch.

Good but could be better by a mile. As always, Sony proves to be extremely slow with software :|
There are a lot of things left to do..

- Yes USB hubs work with PS4, I use one to charge the controller and Pulse Elite headphones at the same time while the wireless dongle for the headphones is plugged in.

- Yes you can charge your controllers and any peripheral off a different USB port if you have a computer nearby.
Thanks, which do you recommend?

But for real, where's the:

Themes?
Folders?
Resume/Suspend?

Themes is coming with this update though

the other 2 are still valid

Hopefully within the week

This update has been a longtime coming. I am hoping they can shift focus and start doing monthly or every other month updates besides stability.

Glad i'll be able to play my own tunes while I game + can't wait for the library section to get an overhaul so my menu screen gets cleaned up a little.

SharePlay, Youtube support, Themes are all awesome and some of the features in this update are welcomed.

Some of these added features seem more like a stop gap though. I really feel Sony needs to hire a US team to handle their FW updates instead of relying on Japan. Not only is it taking to long to release updates they are lagging behind on features when they do.

I'd be more in favor of Sony doing smaller updates with basic features instead of trying to compile everything into one HUGE update.

Sony still yet to have their Ferrero Rocher moment.

At the start you thought Sony is really going to give Xbox a fight in the OS feature space and they did but reading these updates it's like going back to early PS3 days and the light years ahead Original Xbox.

PSN IS NOT A PAID SERVICE. PSN IS FREE. YOU PAY FOR PS+ TO PLAY MULTIPLAYER. OS AND UPDATES HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.

Sorry, but this idea is really prevalent and its just not true. PSN is free guys.

OT: Anyways, I always find these threads funny because everyone has some feature that they want implemented so every time somethings added someone goes "no blank or blank? WTF SONY!" and then if those were in the update someone else goes "where is blank and blank? Come ON!" Seriously though, people complain as if they're going to add every possible thing in one update. They should probably speed it up though.

Lol I'm left disappointed at first i was like Music playback! then I was like from usb :( Can you hear the music through the stream on twitch.tv?

I get the suspend/resume complaints but not the pause downloads. I just cancel the downloads I don't want and then download them later after one has finished..takes 30 seconds.

Like yeah I get it seems like a trivial feature to add but it's never impacted my ability to enjoy my ps4. The anger over it seems blown way out of proportion.

We get it.

Happy and disappointed. Happy something other than a stability update is coming out. Disappointed that a lot of these features seem like something that should've been out by now as many of these don't seem difficult to program in, but what do I know!

They say there's more features so I guess we can expect rudimentary download management (aka pause/resume, and priority--hah), and friend online notification.

Add To Library: The monthly free PlayStation Plus games will have an ‘Add to Library’ button in the PlayStation Store. This button will add a game to a PS4 owner’s library without downloading it – saving space on their hard drive.

Does adding a PS+ game to your library claim the PS+ title to your PSN account so if you download it say in 3mths time after the game is no longer a PS+ title, it is still available to you ?

If it does...then this ia damn good feature.

If its simply a shortcut to the game's store page, then I don't see the point

Only thing missing is folders and suspend/resume feature. I really wanted themes, and I'm so glad it's here. Folders is becoming a necessity considering the amount of games I have... I hope they fix the bugs that keep happening. Friends list not showing unless I sign out/then sign in, online settings needing to go to test internet connection and party chat sometimes not working unless you restart the PS4.

Cool. I just play music on speakers if I want any while playing though. I'm surprised so many people are excited for that feature.

Yep. Good thing I didn't buy the console for its OS, because Sony has always been a little late with their updates.

They manage fine with their phones, their apps are the most requested ports on XDA any company can hire good software staff, it's good engineering that Sony is good at that's hard to find but the software we just not seeing it here for some reason.

yeah thats the entire point

What the hell. Just add folders! What is this most recent 15 nonsense?

I think it's deliberate, the same way they don't want you separating apps and games. They want you to be exposed to a bunch of different stuff in the hope that you'll interact with it and spend money.

The same way that you'll find random things in the aisles or at the ends of aisles in the grocery store. They want you to browse and impulse buy.

"Fuck you Sony, you never update anything. Microsoft updates Xbox One every month"
*Sony announces updates, gives details*
"Fuck you Sony, I wanted that other feature*
Hue.

HAHAHA. Just last week when Driveclub was supposed to come out on PS+, I said I wonder if Sony should create an easier way for people who are not tech-savvy to instantly claim their PS+ free games. And now that will be a feature in this update. It doesn't download them for you, but it puts them into your library so that way they are claimed for your account.

Also, the replies to first two comments are interesting. The first one explains there's more to the update than listed. The second when sort of confirms DLNA IS coming.
