- Stuff that was promised at the reveal (DLNA, proper USB support)
- Stuff that their last gen console did (Pause downloads, folders, DLNA player, PS1/2 classic support)
- Stuff that the competitor is doing that they really should be (hold to view notifications, start game/app with a single voice command, much faster app/game switching (no prompt), vastly improved cloud saves (auto upload/download from every console you use, and a LOT more storage)).

Sony, once you've done all this, and you've caught up to your own promises, the PS3 and the Xbone (to an extent), then you may worry about crazy new features.

Regarding this update, I hope the new content management features are good. I wish everything was a bit more speedy too. I HATE scrolling through games and having to wait for thumbnails to load on my shiny new next gen system. I also hope saves can be backed up/restored in bulk rather than game per game.

What exactly are you using DLNA for?

Videos, music and pictures, I loved the option on my 360(at the end of my 360 era via W8 apps) and its been a year now since release I would at least expect a unified media player would be present from a freaking Media company.
Right now my NAS is doing all the hard work in pushing out over DLNA to my phone, bluray, smart TV, tablet and laptop

These two are very good additions, particularly the latter, when I'll eventually swap to a bigger HDD.

If you want a PS4, that's a great price, especially considering what else you get with it. You probably won't be able to find a better deal for a while.

Why did Sony decide to go with Bluetooth v2.1 for the PS4 again? Seems like 3.0 would have been better.

At least for the controller 3.0 and 4.0 don't really add anything. 3.0 introduces HS mode... which is increased bandwidth, by basically using wifi at the cost of increased power usage. The battery lasts a short enough time already. 4.0 introduces a low power mode which also has roughly the bandwidth of bluetooth 1.0. Probably not enough bandwidth for the controller / speaker.

The question is why didn't they allow pairing bluetooth headsets like the ps3 did when there seems to be enough bandwidth to do it through the controller anyhow. Maybe there is some kind of security concern that I am unaware of but it seems to me 3.0 or 4.0 doesn't add much for them.

I consider "custom soundtracks" to mean muting the in-game music and overlaying your own music, but keeping the sound effects in tact.

Unless specified otherwise, "play [your] own music in the background while playing a game" could function in a number of ways. Maybe they mute just the game music. Maybe they mute the whole game. Maybe they don't bother muting anything.

I really do hope that it's the "custom soundtrack" feature I truly desire, but I can only hope for the best and expect the worst. It's my nature.

A lot of the stuff I mentioned is gaming related though. I agree, DLNA probably isn't a huge deal. Although I suppose now that custom soundtrack support is seemingly in (which is definitely gaming/related and a big deal for some) it would be nice to just play any music over your home network rather than just a selection off a USB drive.

For video, they're rips of discs I retain possession of, for music they're mp3s that I either ripped from CDs that I retain possession of, or they're mp3s that I've bought from Amazon myself.

I've also got home movies of my daughter in mp4 format.

I'd use it to stream legit internet radio like I used to on 360. That beat the hell out of listening to my same lame local music over and over again, MP3s are bush league.

It would be nice to stream internet radio. I've got a Roku 3, but it's janky and slow compared to what's under the hood on my (now dearly departed phat) PS3, let alone the PS4.

You know, I really hate being like one of these ungrateful kids who complain about things and always act like nothing is enough. I do. These are nice updates in themselves, but all I can think about is how it will have USB MUSIC SUPPORT.

I don't want USB music. I don't have an MP3 player and I don't want one. I listen to CDs. I still buy CDs. Just last week I bought the new Weezer album.

I also have a really nice sound setup on my tv. Is it asking too much to have CD playback? Why can't we at least have the same features that PS3 did? Why are we taking a step back on this? Yes, I understand that kids these days don't have CDs, but it's not like it's difficult technology. The kids these days don't even use DVDs or Blurays either, yet those features are available.

It sucks that when I want to listen to an album in good quality now, I need to switch my equipment and plug in the 360. I don't WANT to use my 360, but I'm forced to because Sony doesn't think it's worth adding CD support to PS4. This really bugs me.

I'm OK with USB Music Player being USB only for now, better than waiting even longer for the update and I'm sure DLNA is coming. I really wish Sony had included at least one USB port on the back (or even side like Xbone) of the console though, hate things poking out the front :-(. Even the Wii U has something like 2 rear USB ports.

My guess it that android would work as they usually act as USB drives when plugged into the computer (and it's drag and drop). iPhone isn't though right?

I completely accept that I'm in the minority, but given that PS3 had the feature and that XBox One has it, Sony's not really in a position to refuse. If they were smart, they'd have PS4 recognize the Cinavia watermarking and provide an opportunity to insert the original Blu-Ray disc to register a movie as owned by the user, but they're not going to be that smart.
