PS4 System Software Preview – USB Music Player, New Home Screen Colors, More

Honestly, I dont think that this update is so bad. I mean, themes and background music are cool! I want both!

But... I really feel that Sony doesnt give a fuck for the feedback of their millions consumers! One year after the release of the console thats their update? What about the bugs that is on the system, like the share button that doesnt record everything as it should. Or even worse, where the hell is the option to PAUSE a damn download! Why something THAT basic is still not even on their plans?? They think that the entire world have that alien internet connection that the japanese people have? (not mentioning region changing option, PSN ID changing option, DLNA, and so on)

I like themes and I like background music. But that was not the kind of priorities that I was expecting! Give me a functional system Sony! I'm tired of that BS!

I think this is something that everyone has glossed over. I could be wrong but is this the first time that a codename has been given for a firmware update? The name itself along with it being listed 4 times in the blog post makes it stand out to me. Why make the codename known? Well, a lot of people would most likely know Masamune from the Final Fantasy series, FFVII in particular. The codename might point to PS1 emulation support, or I could be looking to much into a simple codename.

Otherwise I'm happy with the way 2.0 is shaping up, although I still can't wait for DLNA.

i...can't tell if you're being serious

I really hope the "add to Library" option for PS+ games becomes available for everything purchased in the store so that they could also allow us to remove items from the Library. We really need a way of removing demos and betas from the Library.

What I really want is the ability to delete items from the library. I don't need to see demo's and beta stuff that I never intend to download or play again.

Also 15 items is still too much to show in the content area. They really need to rethink that as a whole.

Try the options button. SOLVED

No, that really doesn't solve the problem. The Options button does nothing in the library. Even content you deleted just shows there as still being downloadable.

EDIT:

Jesus Christ, posts like this really piss me off. If it was that simple I wouldn't have posted it as something that needs to be fixed.

Learn to take a joke. Don't take things so serious. Have some fun

It wasn't a joke though.

You offered a solution with the assumption that a) I hadn't already tried that and b) That what you were suggesting actually did anything

It comes off as condescending ("press the options button, dummy") and implies that I am a moron.

Anyway, I just think it would be a nice feature to have. I don't need to see icons or download links for content I don't care about anymore.

It just occurred to me why they may not be committing to friend notifications in this update. Those notifications involve pinging their servers every time one has to be sent to everyone's console. They may be worried about introducing the feature at a time when they're already struggling to keep up with network demands.

How slow are some peoples friends list? Mines been fine but I hear others complain about it all the time.

Here is how fast mine is:

Mine is exactly the same as your video. Occasionally I've seen some friends take a couple extra seconds to pop up.

Honestly in this day and age, simple DLNA support would be a bit weak. I've already set up Plex, I'd prefer using the Plex web client in the PS4's browser over the PS3's DLNA if it wasn't so buggy. A native Plex client would be amazing, and it really doesn't require anything from Sony's firmware team. I figure if the Vudu app on PS3 and PS4 can use ffmpeg, so can other software.

the ps4 plex web client broke for me after one the recent firmware updates. videos will still play but if you stop the video before finishing...resume functionality no longer works. anyone know of a workaround or settings i might need to change?

It's a decent update, but themes and background colors should have been there at launch. And where's the folders? YouTube support is great though.

Have you tried it in the last couple weeks? There's been a couple web client updates and I think one of them was supposed to try to fix that. Changing languages still locks up the browser for me though.

the usb playback sound like a stopgap until full DLNA compliance. not a bad one. does it support usb hard drives?

filtering in library also seems like a good first step. the main bar is always supposed to be "recently accessed" and it retains that without getting buried.

Not everything that I want ( PSone/two classics) but there are some solid additions here. The themes, USB music while in game, youtube app, and organization by content are all things that I was asking for and gets the PS4 a step closer to the level that the PS3 is currently at.

Use an external hard drive. I use one to back up saves and captures and unplug it when I don't need it.

I hope so. I already backup my MP3 collection to a portable hard drive and playing directly from that would be preferable to wasting 120GB of the internal drive on music.

The idea of having a USB stick plugged into the front in 2014 is just crazy to me. It'd be one thing if you could leave a USB device plugged into the back... but having something plugged into the front all the time, or being swapped in and out, is just so ghetto. I barely wanted to do that in 2005.

I have hopes that this is just the quickest way to get a music player in there to build upon later, because touching the file structure of the internal Hdd and adding DLNA are bigger jobs for later.

If they actually thought a USB function was a desirable use-case, with no eye to expand later to DLNA/internal storage, they shouldn't even have bothered.

I want Printer support and hand tracking motion, make the camera do something else on the UI

edit-

Also I want Start-Select to be implemented on the touch pad, option should only be used for share stuff only.

Enough of the hideous "Press Option" in title screens.

Shareplay sounds awesome, can't wait. But they need to get their shit together with DLNA and better expanded USB media support. If they coughed up for AC3 audio support they would take all the wind out of my interest in Bone for media. But yeah that's asking for a lot so parity would be fine.

He means the Library folder.

I have 800+ friends on one of my accounts. I can only dream of my list being as fast as yours. I think the only time its been that fast was getting my system the day before the release of the PS4.

Messaging is just as bad, too. Takes close to minute just to pop up after clicking on the notification.

I only read the first page, but why is NO ONE
on the first page
talking about the co-op couch share thing? That is craazzzyyy.

It almost seems too good to be true...i'm gonna wait to see how well it works, and what the limitations are before I get myself too hyped up.....being able to play Towerfall or Sports Friends against my friend on two consoles would be amazing.

Good point but still sad.

I really don't think those two issues are what millions of consumers are demanding from Sony. On PS4 I haven't once had the urge to pause a download, partly because simultaneous downloads seem to prevent everything from bottlenecking as bad as it used to on PS3, and partly because download speeds seem faster overall, nothing to do with my net connection which is the same.

I'm sure little things like pausing downloads are in this update. It's just not a big "feature" that would be worth mentioning in the blog post. I would be really surprised if it wasn't there.

you're gonna get banned just like last time

is it really so cumbersome to have a small device inserted. I mean I grew up with 5.25" / 3.5" discs so you maybe can see my puzzlement. network access is great and overdue but... usb sticks are ghetto? really?

It should be pointed out that the full feature list of update 2.0 has not yet been unveiled.

Folders would he pointless. Sony took the much more sensible route and instead expanded functionality of the library, which is really the only folder you need.

There's something in there that seems like it might be NicoNico related...so probably not a US/Eu feature? But Google Translate is rough so I can't interpret it lol

don't think there is anything else that's not in the us and eu blogs but there might be more details?
