Still no word of adding some type of folders to organize all those scattered games?
Dude, the XBone has better and more frequent updates. This is a firmware thread so the comparison is gonna come up. And for the record, last gen people WERE yelling at Sony because of updates, just for the opposite reason.

Grass is always greener on the other side. People will never be happy, always finding insignificant things to moan about. Updates are insignificant unless they effect the gameplay some how.
It says that the bar will only show the latest 15 accessed items everything else falls into you library which is getting revampedStill no word of adding some type of folders to organize all those scattered games?
this was high up on the ps blog share list since it started. has it really taken sony this long? i'm glad it's finally there though.
The only thing I can't figure out is why the XBOne users don't whine about frequent firmware updates. I'm not sure what's changed from last gen to this gen in that respect other than the console manufacturer names.
Because they took ages to download and install.I never understood why everyone moaned about the regular firmware updates to the PS3 last gen
Sony has with the PS4 a gaming console "4Theplayers". MS on the otherside has with Xbox One The all-in-one entertainment system. Of course the priorities are complete different this time. And every console trying their best to fulfil these promises. So it's only natural that one console is better in the gaming part and the other in the media part. Now it's up to the consumer to decide what they want from their console.
I think folders, suspend/resume, improved messaging system, being able to change your name, and better friends notifications would be better for a gaming console than some of the features Sony has decided to prioritize.
The PS3 firmware updates brought masses of new features. The stability stuff was only at the end of the PS3's life when it had pretty much everything already. People were whining long before then.Probably because the X1 gets a bunch of new features and noticeable changes that people want while the PS3 got a lot of stability updates. That meme exists for a reason.
That's it?Because they took ages to download and install.
I literally lost 10 minutes any time I had one to install. Super annoying.
That's it?

10 minutes for a firmware, another 5 to install a patch for a game, another 5 to install.. that's already 20 minutes. PS3 was bad for that.
The firmware updates happened relatively rarely in the last years. 10 minutes is basically nothing in my opinion. How long does firmware update on other device take today?10 minutes for a firmware, another 5 to install a patch for a game, another 5 to install.. that's already 20 minutes. PS3 was bad for that.
At this rate of PS4 selling I think big features like suspend/resume Sony would intentionally keep it from being released so they can be released whenever needed.
What?
Does the regular consumer really care about suspend/resume? A lot of us care about it, but it's not like announcing Suspend/Resume for FW 3.0 will do anything for the sales of PS4.
The only 'big feature' that I can see move consoles are stuff like Powers TV series exclusive to PS+, backward compatability for PS1/2 games, a compelling PSNow sub service, etc...
Not Suspend/Resume.
As others have said a lot is the way features work compared to its PS4 counterpart.
Out of the top of my head, software features that are currently not supported on PS4. (I'm probably forgetting a few.)
- External storage support
- Customization (Custom tiles, organization, colour scheme, etc.)
- Community integration in the store. (User videos and live streams are shown at that specific game page in the store.)
- Community (friends) leaderboards. Such as achievements, gold stars earned in game X, enemies killed in game Y, etc.
- Friend notifications and the ability to enable certain notifications only for a group of friends instead of all of them.
- Ability to follow people.
- Controller find by making it vibrate.
- Full voice and motion control at anytime anywhere.
- Download management.
- Snap on top of switching between apps. ( 5 apps can be running at the same time, or 1 game and 4 apps)
- Local and DLNA media playback.
- Cloud saves regardless of XBL Silver or Gold.

You could make an identical list for the PS4 if you wanted to.
- one-button screenshot/streaming/video capture functionality
- swappable harddrives
- gyro/touchpad keyboard input
- 'what's new' activity feed with your friend's achievements, last played and purchases
- superior pre-loading and release countdown mechanics
- custom play-areas per game that show friends who play, leaderboards, community content, trophies, trailers and DLC
- detailed patchnotes for every update
- trophy rarity system
- remote-play to Vita and Playstation TV systems
- a superior Netflix client
- Sharefactory
- Play-go for playing games while downloading
- interactive streaming through Twitch or Ustream
- Playstation Now
I'm not saying the PS4 OS is more fully featured compared to the Xbone OS, and it has definite areas where sony needs to improve.
But some of the things in these comparisons are simply two companies doing things differently and having their priorities elsewhere.
Sony didn't add friend notifications because of the massive expansion of the friend limit. I have no doubt that they are adding such a feature though, possibly by marking some friends as 'favorites' or something.
Where, for example, Microsoft had tile/color customization on day one, Sony had working screenshot functionality.
There are pros and cons to both OS's right now, and Microsoft is doing a great job of expanding theirs through consistent updates. Sony less so.
But you can't just rattle off a list of minute features and demand that they come to the competitor console, acting like Sony dropped the ball because they don't have 'controller find by making it vibrate', or other extremely specific stuff like that. These consoles will never be fully identical.
Believe me, I am eagerly awaiting more PS4 features like DLNA, a new Youtube client, a sorting method for my games and even colours, but these are merely side decorations for an already great gaming console, personally.
- one-button screenshot/streaming/video capture functionality
Xbox has that, except for screenshots, which is strange oversight
- swappable harddrives
I would like Xbox to have that, but external 2Tb harddrives are good enough I guess, also irrelevant to firmware discussion
- gyro/touchpad keyboard input
I like Gyro keyboard on PS4, I would love if Xbox controler revision would have gyroscopes, also irrelevant to firmware discussion
- 'what's new' activity feed with your friend's achievements, last played and purchases
Activity feed on Xbox is superior to "What's new" in every possible way, with only your friends activity without any Ads cluttering
- superior pre-loading and release countdown mechanics
Again, not sure what's superior about 2 day pre-loading when on Xbox you have 2 weeks to pre-load games which does make a difference with lot of games being 40Gb+
- custom play-areas per game that show friends who play, leaderboards, community content, trophies, trailers and DLC
It's exactly same for Xbox, but instead it also integrates most popular user made videos through Upload studio and current Twitch streams, as well as little stats and leaderboards, like enemy kills, time played, score, etc
- detailed patchnotes for every update
I won't stress if I can't see that developers "improved stability" and fixed technical issues. I never ever checked patch notes on PS4 before, in fact I had to check right now on this feature, since I didn't even realize it was there before. The only game I can see this be relevant is currently Destiny, but again, Bungie.net would be better way to read notes
- trophy rarity system
I guess, but then again there is so much wrong and missing from trophy system compared to Achievements, that's it's weird to bring little things like that
- remote-play to Vita and Playstation TV systems
While I understand why people like it, it's nowhere near Wii U, Steam Streaming or even OnLive - 120ms+ imput lag with 3.4Mbps video stream capped at 720p@30FPS. I tried it once, the only game that was barely playable was AC4, Killzone and BF4 were unplayable with Remote Play
- a superior Netflix client
It's exactly the same on Xbox One for like last 3 months, in fact I liked old one better than their new unified client
- Sharefactory
UploadStudio is superior in every possible way and was there since launch
- Play-go for playing games while downloading
Again, same for Xbox, not sure where you going with that statement
- interactive streaming through Twitch or Ustream
Xbox has much better Twitch integration, that this point looks strange
- Playstation Now
Non PS4 exclusive service available on lot of other Sony products, but I could see why it could be a point. Also completly irrelevant right now for anyone outside of Western Europe or US, also irrelevant to firmware discussion
So like maybe 2-3 points that you got remotely correct?
I don't really care but most of your points are like "Touche, BUT..."
So like maybe 2-3 points that you got remotely correct?
Most my points are that Xbox can do same thing as good, or better and did it before PS4. Also bringing hardware difference (remote play, swappable HDD, gyros) into software/firmware discussions is silly.
There are maybe 4 things that he listed, that are not available on Xbox and could be easily made available in new firmwares. The list of stuff not available on PS4 (firmware wise) while being there on Xbox is much much longer.
Wht would you even respond to someone like Hoodoo? I doubt he has even spent a fraction of time even going through the OS of the Xbox One to even see what it can and can't do. Don't waste your time with people that you know have a strong bias toward a certain brand. I've had both consoles since launch and the Xbox One has clearly focused more of their attention toward the social aspects of their console and it shows between the two systems. Sony seems to be getting things together finally but I still can't believe it has taken them a year to even release the stuff they have for 2.0. Not to mention suspend/resume was announced almost two years and we haven't heard a thing about it since. So like maybe 2-3 points that you got remotely correct?

- one-button screenshot/streaming/video capture functionality - Hardware function. It's not like they can patch a button in. The only part of this that's valid is screenshots.
- swappable harddrives - Hardware function. The drive simply isn't swappable. It actually CAN be done, but isn't something you can patch to make user friendly. Unlike plugging a new harddrive into the easily accessible USB ports.
- gyro/touchpad keyboard input - Hardware function. You want them to patch in a gyro/touchpad via firmware?
- 'what's new' activity feed with your friend's achievements, last played and purchases - One click to get to What's New for this info. One click to get to the Friends app, with this info.
- custom play-areas per game that show friends who play, leaderboards, community content, trophies, trailers and DLC - Exists for every game on it's details/store page. It also shows people broadcasting the game at the moment, and recently uploaded clips. I'd put the X1 ahead in this area personally.
- remote-play to Vita and Playstation TV systems - Hardware function. MS has no VIta or Playstation TV equivalent. If this worked with non-Sony devices, it would make a more convincing point.
- a superior Netflix client - ... ... Do you really want to start adding superior app functionality to these lists? It wouldn't look good.
- Play-go for playing games while downloading - The X1 actually does allow this too. It's not done as well, but it's definitely not something the PS4 does which the X1 doesn't.
So like maybe 2-3 points that you got remotely correct?

Man, OS warz is serious business.
Too bad the general public doesn't care about about firmware updates.
So far I saw only 4:
Screenshots
Patch Notes
Added stats to Achievements like rarity
More detailed pre-order timer (which is moot point, when you have 2 weeks pre-load time on Xbox and only 2 days on PS4).
Other than that Xbox does exactly same or better than PS4. Points related to service design and hardware, like game streaming which is there only to help vita to sell, or gyros/swappable harddrives. Those are in no way related to firmware.
But keep brushing off facts with bad sarcasm.
Apart from the TV/Cable side of things that no one cares about, tell me exactly what the Xbox has that the PS4 cannot get through a firmware update?
Thank you. I don't think anyone buying Xbox Ones are looking at all these features sets like, OMG the store has videos from twitch (a site they might not even know) with other people playing. Or I can see my friends achievements while I play, etc.
Surely for power users this is important, but literally, the true point is one is making sure the system works out the gate as advertised and is updating things that they can promise first at one step at a time, and the other one is keeping true to their all in one mantra and building on that. Everything else is subjective.

Look dude, I am not sure if you are trolling or just stupid. Please read my 2 previous posts again and then read yours. I think you are missing the point...
Your name describes you well. Why dont you spout your Microsoft nonsense elsewhere? Showing off with updates Lol. Sorry state of affairs.
I don't understand how you decide what's relevant to firmware discussion,

Then why are you in firmware thread where this small differences do matter to us? DLNA doesn't matter to majority of PS4/Xbox One user base, same with huge chunk of other features that enthusiasts like us ask for. If you have nothing to contribute, don't brush off the discussion just because "no one cares about that". If no one would care, this thread wouldn't be 25+ pages.
SMH
I'm creating a thread for OS discussions so we can stop derailing a thread like this for people who actually want to discuss the 2.0 update.
It will be up in a few minutes.
