PS4 Update 4.5 is coming tomorrow, details inside

My notifications are hilarious, there are cloud save file uploads errors from 3 years ago ... on top of the list :S

You're honestly better off going for a traditional high capacity external hard drive.
You'll be wasting your money with a SSD, as not only will you continue to have low capacity, but the PS4 wouldn't really take advantage of the speed benefits.

Where are you getting this from? My external SSD is significantly faster than both my SSHD drive and the stock internal. If space is your primary concern then fair enough but the speed increase is significant.

I somehow doubt that given the PS4 doesn't support TRIM, and generally doesn't take advantage of the speeds offered by an SSD, even given an internal one. I highly doubt your speed increases are 'significant'.

I use the WD Elements 2tb and have never had an issue, and is what I just hooked up to my PS4 Pro. It's fairly cheap on Amazon.

I might even recommend going with the 3tb as it's around the same price as a lot of 2tb drives elsewhere.

That one looks like the equivalent of this one

Will games on this one load slower than the internal HDD?

Boost Mode is fairly underwhelming. Don't get me wrong -- it's nice that it tends to improve lots of games by providing more of constant 30fps where there were dips before.

On the other hand I thought you'd get more games jumping to 40-60fps but that's really not happening. I should have known since it's just increasing the CPU and GPU clock to full speed and not doing much of anything else with the CU's etc

It's a nice feature and I'm glad it's there, but if I didn't have a Pro, knowing what I know now I would not be running out to buy one because of this.

except BF4, which does exactly what you're saying it doesn't. it's going to be a variable thing. some games will benefit more than others. it's a great addition though. and just adds to the reasons to buy the pro, because lets face it, there really aren't that many to begin with, especially if you're not a 4k TV owner.

You can now enable your ps4 as main even if you have not deactivated the other one.

This helps because there were fraud cases and now digital shares are harder.

What! did not know about this! Could help since my sharing friend is working now in another State and is not online over a month ago je je

Depends on your definition of significant I guess, but all benchmarks I've seen say otherwise, as does my own personal experience. You aren't talking light years difference, and it varies between games, but to suggest SSDs are a waste of time with the PS4 is not accurate.

External HDD support is good to hear. I was almost at the point of having to start deleting game data or switching out HDDs but from the blog post looks like we'll be able to choose which data we put on the external drive so I'll just put my lesser played games on the external and then put it away so it doesn't clash with my Uncharted edition PS4 :D

With the addition of external drive support, what would be a good SSD size for an internal? 250 seems too small, 500 seems reasonable, 1TB seems like overkill for the price? Trying to get the best bang for buck on performance increases from the OS and usable games on SSD. Plan on putting an 2TB external HDD to store games that aren't in use or move around from internal to external as needed. Looking at picking up a Pro very soon with a 500 SSD, if you have an SSD currently what are you thoughts. Thanks in advance.
I have a kingston 480gb ssd internal and a 3tb seagate external rocking on the Pro. It's a fantastic combo and the ssd load times for bf1 are amazing.

Are there issues with cloud saves right now? Getting errors as well for Horizon uploads.

Also, PLEASE tell me I'm missing something, but are we not able to click Options > Clear List in the notifications anymore? They can't have overlooked this when they redesigned it right?

Unless I've missed something, you can no longer clear your notifications.

Anyone else having a problem getting an external drive to work via a powered usb 3.0 hub?

I'd like to have my hdd and vr plugged in to the back together, but the drive doesn't recognize when plugged in to my hub. :|

Say I have everything moved to the external hard drive and I want to upgrade the internal drive. Will the PlayStation also need to reformat the external drive or can I just move stuff back from the external onto the internal drive once replaced?

I was part of the beta but couldn't test the external HDD option as I had no empty ones. But can I hook up a USB 3.0 ext. drive and move already installed games from the internal HDD to the external?

Connected/formatted a 1tb portable and moved over a few less important and/or lighter footprint games to test out just in case a save file or something somehow gets corrupted or the games crashed hard. If it holds up over time I'll install to it directly, but for now returned to installing to original internal as the default, move over when game priority shifts.

Seems to work just fine so far.

my apologies if this has been brought up already (my search didn't yield results).

I was trying to upload a video to YouTube and it was asking me to sign in. No problem, I sign in on the browser that it brings up automatically. Then it asks me where I want to upload my video...I choose YouTube and it starts the process over again.

Well I'm moving mine back and forth without issue from an internal SSD to external hdd.

yeah especially because the USB 3.0 bus is faster than the internal hard drive bus just like on the Xbox One. the testing has been done on the One already that External SSD's are extremely good at improving load times. I've seen the same improvement in Destiny that i saw on the One and even a bit most i'm pretty sure due to boost mode. sure if you need mass storage it may not be your thing but like on my xbox one i have a large raid array for mass storage and a SSD for my frequently played and slower loading games.

to dismiss a external ssd as no benefit is silly and just not true.

Yes. In the storage settings there should be an option to move games from internal to external and vice versa.

Save files stay on the internal drive.

Played Bloodborne DLC last night to test out boost mode

Pro purchase justified

TRIM is mostly an issue when you delete and write lots of smaller files. Dumping a 60GB game on a SSD and then doing lots of sequential and random reads is pretty much the workload that is least affected by degradation issues.

For a quick read on the issue : http://www.anandtech.com/show/2738/8 (see the following pages for what TRIM fixed). If after a few months/years you feel your drive has degraded just move the games back to the HDD (or delete them), and secure erase the SSD on a PC (shouldn't be an issue).

I received my SSD and will check out real world numbers. Still missing the enclosure but I might just take a dock home from work.

Something seems wrong with my update. I didn't know that there was an update, but it downloaded while I was at work , I go home to play and it says to use network features I need to install the update. I go to install the update and it says it is version 1.21, but the notes are for version 4.5..what? I back out, and go to the update system option in the system settings, and see 4.5, but I get some type of error. I try to delete the update, and download it again but I can't...........b/c I can't use network features until I install the update, but the update file must be corrupted or something. What to do?

Edit: I'm on a PS4 Pro if that matters.

Anyone ever have something like this happen?

Not cool. After struggling with a "CE-30022-7" error when trying to play a Bluray disc, I tried everything. (switching to a new user, deleting settings) I went to the step of completely reformatting my PS4 Pro, which finally fixed it.

And now, I see that you can't restore save games from USB unless the game is already installed on the PS4. Guess I gotta download my entire game library to restore all my saves. Thanks, Sony!

Yes.
What are you even getting at with that question?

Ahhh, I thought everyone meant the pop up notifications, didn't realise it was that notifications list for downloads/updates etc till I booted up (after I made my post). Whose smart idea was that?

Thanks a lot, that's awesome!

1. You should have known based on all the reports from beta users what to expect

2. You do realize that if a game is capped at 30fps there could be a 1080ti in the Pro and it would still run at 30fps right?

I have a 1080p screen and I'd have to disagree, Pro is worth it even for me.

I'm starting to see the light with Boost mode. Batman runs a lot better. Juddery slo mo no more.

I wish there was a way to pick where to download something on an app by app basis.

This was before 4.50 too. But yeah, that sucks. We should be able to download our save games irrespective of whether we have them installed.

Frame pacing is still of, but the issues are a bit less frequent. It also holds 30 fps more easy. It's an improvement but still not in a good state.

That doesn't sound much, since those were never issues for me, outside of Old Yharnam entrance.

I'm itching for a fourth playthrough, but I'm still postponing it in the hope of a improbable Pro patch. Even if it did happen, there would probably be no supersampling. :(

EDIT: Or pre-release lighting.

I'm aware of what a fps cap is, just wasn't sure so many games were locked. Silly me.

Also I don't think the ultra-simplification of the notifications menu is that big of a deal. Overall this firmware is a welcome change. My only serious complaint thus far is what I said previously, wishing there was a feature where you can tell the console where to download something on an app by app basis.

Loving this update. Everything is snappier and slightly more visually appealing. I have yet to try the vr improvements though

Notifications need to revert, though. The fuck is that shit? Or at least allow us to switch back.

Isn't TRIM inconsequential in this case since many SSD's have garbage collection built into their firmware?
