PS4 Update 4.5 is coming tomorrow, details inside

Have you tried deactivating HDCP on the PS4? I know our sounds crazy, but it does seem to have negative impact.

i am willing to try that again but in the past it did not help at all. There was a short time it worked many many firmwares ago but Destiny is really bad even walking around the tower in game is laggy. I'd love for it to work.

Extremely disappointed this update did not fix the HDCP issues. Still getting black / snow flashing screens. I hope they put out an update very soon that solves the issue once and for all.

Yeah tried it again it's fucking unplayable its so bad. and the DS4 make the lag worse than using a DS3 but you can't play Destiny with a DS3.

My external hard drive issue has been resolved. Turns out having the USB port power set to always on in the settings menu causes the issue. Whatever unmount drive procedure Sony is using only triggers if the PS4 itself turns off the ports.

I have set the USB to turn off after 3hours. Which means my external will keep spinning in rest mode till 3hours lapses.

I have a 250GB SSD I'm trying to use as an external but it won't let me. I see others saying they actually are using the same size drives so what gives?

Yup it's nothing new a lost cause and well documented by many in Sony's forums that they ignore. I don't know why i would have thought anything would have changed.

I don't really remember the PSTV being that bad but I only use my PC for remote play now. Have you tried that? I've played plenty of Destiny that way.

yeah it's specifically Destiny and using a DS4 that just F's it all up. It was good for a very short time but that was many firmware ago. I'm very good at trouble shooting shit like this and had torn through my network bunch of times back when it first happened it's never been right since sometime last year.

My gaming PC is near my PS4 so remote play isn't really needed but i've tried from my windows 10 laptop and it's trash there app is resource heavy and runs like shit on a Intel Atom but i can stream 1080P Xbox One without issue. I've played entire Iron Banners from my laptop. But not on Playstation man I have posted in so many threads on so many forums about this I had really given up on it.

The one thing I've done to help with the controller lag is setup the accounts so a secondary account logs in for remote play, then I turn on a controller and switch to my main account. It removes the controller from having to go through remote play.

Hey, I've got a really weird glitch. Each time I wake my PS4 from the main menu, none of the applications work and I gotta restart the console completely to restore functionality.

Is there any way to fix this? Is it a known issue?

Jeez, the PS4 sure is sensitive when it comes to external hard drives.

Just bought an external enclosure with a cover. I went to the Storage menu but couldn't find an option to disconnect my HDD safely, so I just unplugged it. NOW it tells me how to unplug it safely (via home button and not storage???). Plugged it back and it doesn't like my HDD anymore. Couldn't reformat it either. I had to plug it to my PC, reformat as NTFS, plugged back, still didn't work. Reformatted as exFAT, which made it recognizable by the PS4.

They killed remote play unless your on the same network or using a vita.
Man I liked using that on my phone whilst I was all to shift a few extra vitas when they couldn't be arsed with developing for it

Does it say anywhere why it was killed? Or is this simply an unfortunate eff up somewhere in the new update? It was actually working really well via PC for the last few weeks on my Pro. Loved it. This is via a different network across town, not direct connection (which I have unchecked) or via Nearby connection.

Today when I tried it, it wouldn't even wake up the PS4. Anyone know if they've said anything about it? Tomorrow I am actually going to try turning on the PS4 before I leave the house, and see if it can connect if the system is already 'awake', just to narrow down what the issue is...

Anyone have issues with downloading game purchases from your Library? It's weird. Some games give me the download button while others don't. However if I search for it on the store, I can download it from there.

Just got done transferring all the games I already had installed to the portable I received in the mail today. I then went to my library to start downloading games I paid money for, starting with Alienation, no download link. Tried restoring licenses no change, then I inspected all the digital games I don't have installed currently. 91 games purchases, ps plus and f2p included, three of them didn't have download links, all three I paid money for.

ABZÛ
Alienation
Street Fighter V

I'm able to download them from the store, hoping the download button shows up after downloading and uninstalling abzu. Sony needs to fix this quick if it doesn't, I wonder how many of the 85 I had installed won't have their download links when I do delete them.

Edit: ABZU installed, I then uninstalled, still no download link in Library. They need to fix this.

On a related note it looks like, at least with Bloodborne, load times have improved switching to external. Used the stop watch on my phone in time with hitting the x button and then stopping once I saw my character on screen. Timing obviously won't be pinpoint accurate but extremely close, results below:

Bloodborne load times on main drive vs external

Internal Hard Drive

Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB Portable External Hard Drive with Mobile Device Backup USB 3.0, Black (STDR2000100)

Main start up from OS 35 seconds
Continue to Hunters Dream 10.5 seconds
Hunters Dream to Central Yharnam 29 seconds
Central Yharnam to Hunters Dream 14.5 seconds

Extended Hard Drive

WD 4TB Black My Passport  Portable External Hard Drive - USB 3.0 - WDBYFT0040BBK-WESN

Main start up from OS 31.4 seconds
Continue to Hunters Dream 9.5 seconds
Hunters Dream to Central Yharnam 26.8 seconds
Central Yharnam to Hunters Dream 13.9 seconds

So not bad, now I have to hope this external doesn't fail since its encrypted to the enclosure.

Question, if I get a hd enclosure and stick a HD in it, will I be able to transfer the games between the two externals? I'm hoping I won't need to send the games back to the main drive first because that will be tedious.

Thanks for the post Carm.

Does anyone know if anyone or any site has posted an in depth comparison of internal vs external speeds using the same hard drive? That's really the only way to know for sure and I am surprised I haven't seen an article about this anywhere

When booting up BF1 earlier I noticed a notification I never seen before. The notification said something like resolution has changed for BF1. I have a PS4 Pro and game on a 1080p screen. I didn't notice a significant change in the resolution after booting the game up.

This update is completely borked. Since it released, I haven't been able to play online without issues. I am having frequent ping spikes that are bad enough to halt games entirely for seconds at a time before resuming with seemingly no issue, only before happening once more.

This has been a complete nightmare since the games I play regularly on my PS4 are Titanfall 2, Modern Warfare Remastered and Rocket League which are now completely unplayable for me with this lag.

As a bonus, my normal download speed which manages to download a gigabyte every eight minutes or so has slowed to an absolute crawl and a 12GB patch for Hitman is estimating five hours to download.

Base PS4, Wi-Fi. Sony needs to sort this, quick.

I have another drive I use for PS4 backups, exact same model as my current internal. I would assume the actual hard drive inside the enclosure I didn't open is the same. I can test Bloodborne times tomorrow sometime using it, just a 2tb drive like the internal though.

Guess I can answer my own question from earlier about moving installs between extended drives as well.

Try cabled connection. If you can't, move the wi-fi to a less populated channel (many apps on Android to see the wifi channels in use). Using a less populated channel always works with spike, slowness and disconnects.

There's a known issue with the 4.5 update and WIFI that is causing slowness problems. Hopefully an official firmware update comes soon to fix it. Found the info below at the official PlayStation forums.

Solutions found so far:

1) Use wired connection instead of WIFI

2) Remove WIFI password and connect (seems quite bad and unprotected)

3) Strange solution so far: Remove 802.11n protocol and switch to 802.11b/g ..for unknown reason that seems to work.

Has sony commented on an incoming fix for the issues with this update? Seems like there hasn't been a firmware update this problematic in... well, as long as I can remember dating back to PS3.

I can't seem to have a game suspended while going into rest mode. If I do the game has no sound and the PS4 needs a restart to work properly. I've only tried UFC 2 so far.

Guys, I'm about to get a portable SSD for my pro and just had a few small questions, hoping someone can clarify:

- Looking to get a 250GB Samsung T3 USB SSD.
- Do you have to choose a 'master' drive in the PS4's setting ?

I mean, the games I already have in my internal HDD, can I keep them and choose if I want to move one or two of them over to the SSD ? or does everything need to get moved ?

Also, for future game installs, will the system let me pick where I install a game or will I need to pick one and have it be set as default for all future things ?

Also, let's say I have Fallout 4 installed on my internal and Horizon installed on external. if Fallout 4 has an 8GB update, will that go to the internal where the base game is or external because that's my last set storage device ?

When moving from one location to another, you can select one or multiple files to move. It will then just move them straight over. No deleting and redownloading needed.

You do set a destination, either hard drive or extended storage (external) for installs. So if you attach and format your External, and choose it as the install location, any purchases will download to it. I don't think you have choice at time of purchase, it just sends it to whichever you've designated as your installation location.

Updates are downloaded and applied to wherever the game download is.

Which issues? Do you have a list?

I certainly don't have a list, but there seem to be pretty significant amounts of reports on here of HDDs disconnecting in rest mode, and of Wifi connection problems post-update. The former at least is a new feature that might need further work, but not clear how the latter is happening.

EDIT: Here's another one.

I can't seem to have a game suspended while going into rest mode. If I do the game has no sound and the PS4 needs a restart to work properly. I've only tried UFC 2 so far.

Hopefully people are sending error reports.

Thanks for the info, I did went out and get the T3 today. Formatted and copied over Arkham Knight. The load to my current save location dropped from 21 seconds to 9 seconds. Huge improvement, this should be a good investment.

i forget where i got this, but this was the only fix that worked for me and the black screen flashing HDCP issues with my Pro, using the supplied HDMI cable directly to the TV.

make sure to follow the steps EXACTLY.
also, moving forward i think it helps if you ALWAYS turn your TV on first BEFORE turning on your Pro.

1. Make sure your PS4 is off
2. Plug the hdmi into the 4K 60hz port on your tv
3. Turn your tv on
4. Hold down the power button on your PS4 until it beeps twice (Safe mode)
5. Change HDCP setting to 1.4 only
6. PS4 will restart and you should get a signal
7. Turn PS4 off and get back to Safe Mode (step 4) [You May Skip This Step]
8. Choose change resolution which will restart PS4 [You May Skip This Step]

9. If you get an image after PS4 restarts then choose the 'yuv420' option. Hooray!
a) Check that HDCP is enabled in system settings 1st
b) Now shutdown PS4 (after it boots up from step 8 Or 6) then TV off,
now turn TV back on, wait till TV fully booted (be sure it say no signal 1st)
c) Now continue to Step 10

10. Now go back to safe mode and go back to HDCP and choose automatic
a) After it boots, shut it down again

11. Go back to safe mode again and choose change resolution and then choose yuv420 (2160p)
a) Now to make sure it sticks, reboot PS4 with TV still on
b) Now shutdown PS4 Completely No Rest Mode & TV Fully OFF
c) Now Turn TV Back on wait for that no signal again, Then Turn PS4 On
d) If you get PS4 Boot Logo, you are all Good, Enjoy Your HDCP 2.2

Follow up with comparison between same drives. Before that though, having a scare atm, after plugging back in the my passport drive it was only showing a few games on the drive. Started to freak out then checked storage again and more games popped up. I can only hope it's just taking a unusual amount of time to populate the drive listings. I'm not getting the blinking ext storage icon on top right of os this time very strange.

Anyway the results, as best as I can time them:

Bloodborne times for me

Internal Hard Drive

Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB Portable External Hard Drive with Mobile Device Backup USB 3.0, Black (STDR2000100)
Samsung branded HD

Main start up from OS 35 (32.5) seconds
Continue to Hunters Dream 10.5 seconds
Hunters Dream to Central Yharnam 29 seconds
Central Yharnam to Hunters Dream 14.5 seconds

External Drive

Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB Portable External Hard Drive with Mobile Device Backup USB 3.0, Black (STDR2000100)
Samsung branded HD Probably, didn't open enclosure

Main start up from OS 33.27 seconds
Continue to Hunters Dream 10.5 seconds
Hunters Dream to Central Yharnam 28.9 seconds
Central Yharnam to Hunters Dream 14.5 seconds

Main start up time on the internal drive changed to the 32.5 seconds after multiple tests, guess I was slow on that first timing and didn't test more than once on that one. Portable drive slower load time on start up, though as I said not pinpoint accurate, or something odd is going on with start up times from OS.

Little side note, transferring Bloodborne+DLC to the seagate and the western digital portables, both took roughly eight minutes and forty seconds. The OS listed six minutes so a bit off.

mine says it for littlebig planet 3.
also on ps4 pro.

its if you have your recording set to a higher res than the game actually does.

I'm looking at adding an external hard drive strictly for storage purposes, and would move the games I'm not actively playing to the EHD. I'm thinking a WD MyPassport 2 TB should do the trick, maybe? I'm not looking to play the games direct off the harddrive so lag here wouldn't be an issue. Does it have to be a EHD with a power supply, or will USB 3.0 do the trick?

When you use an external drive, is it tied to the console or to your main account? I.e., can you play games off of the external drive across all acounts, or just the one you bought them on?

An odd thing happened to my PS4. I haven't used it in a few weeks and during this time it was shut off completely instead of in rest mode.

When I tried to turn on the PS4 the controller light was just blinking and not connecting to the PS4.

I manually turned the PS4 on but the controller still did not work. I reset the controller and tried syncing with the USB cable but nothing helped.

Booted into safe mode and updated the PS4 to 4.5 and after that my controlled synced right back again.

Is there any way to view a downloads list? It seems the update just put all notifications into a long list instead of the different categories it had before. Wtf is Sony thinking.

While my HDD is plugged I cannot use the sony wireless headset (the first model) on the other USB port. I have to plug the dongle on an usb extender and keep the dongle away from the ps4. My ps4 is the fat original model.

I see that someone had a similar problem in this thread. Does anyone know if it happens on the slim and on the pro too?

Just had this same issue with Destiny, while I was transferring items into the vault.

My Pro just turned itself off and flashed white light yesterday, when I was taking items from the vault in Let It Die. It turned on normally after a while, when I held the power button down, and there was no error notification whatsoever. This is something that's never happened for me before. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

It's never happened before the update, or with any other games. I wonder why it's only occurring while accessing the item vaults in online games?
