PS4/Xbox One Features that still need clarification?

Can I still use my wired 360 / ps3 control in a xbone/ps4?

The controls I have is made especially for my hand as its slightly deformed

also...will my triton headset still be able to sync to the 360s chat??

No backwards compatibility with your controllers.

Have they said how Remote Play will work between four vitas?

I currently use my PS3 to stream music and video to my TV using PS3 Media Server, so I'm interested in knowing more about the support for DLNA, container/codec support, visualizer, whether we can stream audio while using other features in the OS, etc.

Im interested too!... I was hoping PS4 would at least match or improve upon PS3's on DLNA support, I used this stuff a lot to stream media from my NAS

Does the PS4 play PSN / Digital PS1 games or is it a brand new store?

Ps4:

Can I set my sons account as a child account, allow him to play online but on hear people on his friends list?

Can I control who is on his friends list?

Ps4/XBO

Can I set per user time limits for my kids?

Any other parental controls?

Since these consoles are so complex, I think a lot of features won't ever be fully clarified until we actually get to see full dashboard demos from released consoles (or at least, media outlets that get them earlier).

When it's just words on a page, it's very easy to leave things out, or phrase things in a very vague way.

I think I havent seen any of this been officially answered

PS4
- Does it have a scaler chip? If I play a 1080p game in my 768p tv, will it be rendered at 1080p and then be downscaled to my tvs resolution?
- Game invites. If I am playing killzone sp and I accept an invite for another game, will the ps4 prompt me to change disc and take me right into the game I've been invited to?
- SelectiveNotifications. Will there be an option to only receive messages and game invites but not receive a notification every single time a person logs in/out? To me its the visual equivalent to your phone ringing every time a friend of yours turns on/off his phone. It could be really disturbing with 1000+ friends in the list.
- Are custom soundtracks available in every game? I think I read yes somewhere, but not from an official source.

I want to be able to turn off friend log in/log off notifications without turning off message notifications. No answer to that yet.

Can PS3 and PS4 users voice chat, or video chat?

360 and XBO users can't, but I don't know if Sony has confirmed either way.

PS4 .. What hard drive is in it? 2.5 SATA again? ... What version of SATA... Is there a height restriction like the PS3 of 12mm.

has ps+ on ps4 been confirmed to continue in the same way as on ps3 (you keep anything you've downloaded/added to your DL queue for as long as you're a member)?

Can we send audio messages on PS4, like on the 360? For some reason that never came to the PS3.

there was an option in one of the ui video leaks where you could se different options for notifications: on/ off for trophies, invites, etc.. i think friend login/off was also in it, not sure anymore... but theres definitely a choice of what appears and what not

psn to controller? never heard of that before, can someone explain please?

You're supposed to be able to tie your psn account to your controller. I remember asking @yosp about this on Twitter a few months back and he answered but I can't find the tweet. Does anybody know how to do a deep Twitter search? Doing it on Twitter only goes back a few days.

Yes, you can. You can send them on PS4 or the PS app.

I'm wondering about this as well and if the ps4 can play music CDs.
PS2 titles can't be played, not sure about PS1 titles. No music Cds either =/

Few questions about game recording

Xbox One: Can I use the game DVR for longer than 10 minutes?
PS4: Can I use the game recorder for longer than 15 minutes?
PS4/Xbox One: Can I export the DVR/recording to my pc for editing?

Edit: Can you place the Xbox One Vertically? I recall reading it wasn't supported.
Dunno
Yes
PS4 : Yes. XB1 : Dunno
At own risk

Awesome! Thanks.

I'm wondering:
-if we are able to organize our content.
-if we are able to use the PS Move to navigate the UI (at least better than on PS3).
-what ALL we will be able to do with the PS Camera at launch.
-what role the touchpad will play, if at all, in the UI navigation.
-about the internet browser.

And more.

PS2 games I understand why they will not be working on PS4 but why would they take out PS1 games, I thought it was alreay running on emulation on PS3 how hard would it be to support on PS4?

have they confirmed DLNA streaming with either? i mean, i hope it's a given, but still...

edit: beaten a couple times, i guess not :/

yosp said no to PS1 sometime this week. specifically related to PS1 digital downloads, so i would just assume that rules out discs as well since those are just dumps of the ps1 games on psn... i assume it's all just for a push to pay for gaikai stuff down the road.

It is a big deal for me. There is going to be a drought of games after launch... No doubt about it.

But if it meets all my media player needs and I can move the PS3 to the second TV it becomes a lot easier to justify, especially with better wifi.

You think somebody would answer given they are very happy to take your money.

Will either play songs off my ipod?
(Xbo)Will voice controls work with my satellite reciever?
What exaxtly is gaikai, does it cost monies? When will it come out.
am I missing out on features if I don't link facebook to ps4?
Will purchased tv shows, and movies transfer to new consoles?
will the controllers blend?
can I view my kinect from work?
Is sony dedicated to providing a stable online community to rival xbox live?
what kind of interaction between windows8 and xbo can I expect?
will either support .Mkv files?
Is the fabled family sharing plan still going down?
Can we get more ps2, and ps1 games from the store!? I miss SO many old good games!

I'm sure I have more but that's all for now.

I am curious about xbox one TV cable box pass through. I think I remember reading you won't be able to control your cable box dvr,ie set walking dead to record and watch through xbox.

I'm curious about the depth (if any) of this integration as it seems pretty hardware and software specific depending on what carrier and cable box you use. I also wonder if this may end up being highly iterative or patch worthy over the life of the console.

Could these features be added later for example?

yeah i still need to know more about instant demos/games, so i can instantly play anything i download while it downloads, my connection is kinda meh so i don't buy it.

on PS4 btw, this is one of my most hyped features cause i get lazy when downloading games off PS+ since it takes to long, first world problems yes

1. Need a smooth video demo of the dashboards in action. Not just some camera leak/peek.

2. Will the XB1 play OG Xbox games? Same architecture.

3. Will the PS4 play PS1 + PS2 games without Gaikai?

4. What does MS/Sony plan for Xbox 360 + PS3? Sony has an advantage here that the PS3 still can function as a Blu-Ray movie player. Is Microsoft just going to ride the 360 ship and sell out after 3 years to offset XB1 initial operating costs? Does Sony plan to do the same thing since PS4's price is not that much more than the PS3's?

5. Will Windows 8.1 seemlessly integrate the XB1 controller now since it doesn't require any proprietary cables?

6. How will the DS4 integrate with legacy games on PC that were not designed for the PS4 in mind? Does the PC recognize its input as a Xbox 360 controller or do I have to download a program for that?

7. I notice a disclaimer that the XB1 only has its user gameplay editing studio is only for "supported games." What is considered supported and does this imply that the PS4 will carry this same philosophy since both are now all about "developer requests"?

8. How soon will XB1's game streaming service, Rio, launch? Is a XB1 even required to use this service?

PS4 - Do we know yet if downloadable versions of retail games will launch at midnight going into the street date?

PS3 - It's been said that the PS4 friends cap has been raised to 2000, but what if I go play PS3 under the same PSN name? Does that still only show 100 friends or will a firmware update address that on PS3 as well?

This.

Id also like to know if we can roll back or restore the console in the case of a bad firmware update.

Its ridiculous the way a PS3 can brick if your console fails to update properly. The update itself should fail and thats it.

PS4 (and XB1 I guess)

Will 3D Blu-Ray movies playback with full support for Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio. Currently the PS3 will not do 3D Blu-Ray with Dolby True HD, whereas DTS-HD Master Audio was patched in with a recent update.

I need to know if I should get a dedicated 3D blu-ray player for my on order 3D projector.

No official word but

In the perfect world and as a media center it should

In reality it won't because MKV is heavily associated with piracy and Xbox being a industry friendly media device will try to ensure customers are paying for everything they watch on the system in some manner.

What about .MKV support for PS4?

Xbox One

  • Can I use Xbox Music for custom soundtracks like I can with Music Unlimited?
  • If I rent a game, and then decide I want to buy it digitally, can I use the mandatory install to avoid downloading it and just activate my license?

PS4

  • If I rent a game, and then decide I want to buy it digitally, can I use the mandatory install to avoid downloading it and just activate my license?
  • Will I finally be able to change my username?

If we can have different accounts in different Regions on ps4.

I am more than willing to buy eu psn+ and us psn+

Really important. Hated that the PSP had multi acc but vita removed it -.-

I would also like to know if the existing apps for PS3, chrunchyroll especially, are coming.

I don't want to have to hunt down the free playstation plus games each month and download them before they are added to my account. They should automatically be added with no effort on my part.

Will ps4 support dlna like the ps3?
What media apps will be available at launch?
Does the ps4 have an ir receiver?

It looks like we're not going to have Bluetooth support outside of the 4 controllers. I know Sony wants to focus on gamers, but I worry we'll take a step backwards on the media features.
