He seems to be in the same boat as TB as far as thinking that everyone is just wasting their time. He said that if Sony entered in a contract with publishers then it's over with and there's nothing that they can do. And if they haven't and they don't do it then publishers will hang Xbox One exclusives over their head.

Yes, exactly. Not entirely sure what's being referred to on the "contract" front, though. There'd be no contract for this kind of thing as it would be colluding to keep prices high.

This is amazing. 100 pages in two days? Roughly 10,000 tweets? The entire gaming world noticing?

When GAF has a worthy cause, we're a force to be reckoned with!

We passed 10,000 tweet/retweets yesterday afternoon (someone counted) so I have no idea where we are now.

Holy shit. I love your icon.

I agree with this. Welcome, btw ;)

This thread is just amazing. When famousmortimer started it, I thought "Oh, cool idea" and that was about it. A lot of other people jumped on and I tweeted and I went to bed. 2 days later, I had no idea it would still be going on like this and getting this amount of coverage.

Some of you guys are just doing such a bangup job. Its so nice to see (mostly) everyone come together for it.

Thanks. FYI fried snake is delicious.

The second thing we have to remember is that a hashtag and a few blog posts isn’t a backlash. No one at Microsoft or Sony cares about what you post on the forums of your favorite gaming website. I hate to be the bearer of bad news in this regard, but right now the reaction to the possible used game restrictions amounts to a fart in the wind.

I probably shouldn't even post this. Bad enough I gave them a hit for this.

I have a suggestion to make.
Because of the decrease in tweets, we need something new to tweet.
We should make a neogaf ps4nodrm viral youtube video.
Maybe each one should picture with a sign written with the main hashtags or a video saying the hashtags, edit it, throw in some history on the issue and narrate it, do some effects and than tweet the new video to everyone from the beginning.

Also a viral video to attach to news story on game web sites will help.

What do you think gaf? We can write a fast script, everyone will share a photo or a quick video and we are ready.

Sounds like a good idea to me :)

Since joining PA, Ben seems to have transformed into a corporatist tool. Again, like the totalbiscuit crap, we should just drop it for this thread. If people still want to discuss it then it should be done in a different thread. We need to keep this thread focussed.

He needs to just marry Arthur Gies and get it over with.

the guy is an asshat but he makes a good point. Go buy a wii u, which doesn't have any DRM and allows used games, ect.... and show these companies that you are more then just words. use your wallet.

of course most people won't. It's just a twitter-activism. I already have a wii U and from the looks of things it's all i'm going to end up owning this gen.

I'd suggest those who can afford it to get a wii u now, that is the best way of speaking out.

Great work. Would be very interested in seeing what Chris Kohler (Wired) says about this issue. Locking out used games is a huge issue for me because of the principle, even though I don't really purchase used games (unless it is a retro/collectible one that I previously missed out on).

But what is even bigger for me is where it seems consoles are headed. I don't want to have to rely on someone else to activate a game that I may want to play 10, 20 years from now. I have my SNES hooked up to the TV so my 8 year old son can play some great games, just recently we played Top Gear (best racing game still to this date) and it was great. If I have to rely on MS/Sony/whoever to check for activation on a game I purchased, that is a party that I will not be joining. I have a big enough backlog where I'll be fine (Vagrant Story and Chrono Cross are still waiting on the shelf for me).

Keep up the good fight.

Because a lot of it makes sense?

It doesn't make sense what he writes about the possibility of mega publishers pulling out support from Playstation if there isn't a similar lock on used games system in place. They don't have that sway. Sony also has some leverage and muscle in that relationship. Even more so if the platform succeeds in the market.

And buying a Wii U tells Nintendo that it's okay to release a console and not deliver games for it, along with the numerous other things it's done poorly. That doesn't seem like the answer either imo.

Is there a reason why every time I try to link Baller's site in a tweet, those tweets never show up anywhere but my page even though I'm using the hashtags? I have like 6 followers, 4 of whom are just random people who started following me since this started, one is a fellow GAFer, and the other is my brother so those tweets aren't reaching much of an audience. I just don't get it why it's doing this.

I kinda think the point has been made, and you should let the campaign naturally taper off, while planning your next move in a week or two.

Don't do another Twitter bombing campaign right now, lest you become a nuisance, and force these folks you are tweeting to either abandon twitter or move to a more private account.

These folks give us access to them. Be careful how you use it or you might lose it.

I think the impact was made. Let it breathe a bit now.

I don't know coverage on the guardian website etc.is a bit more than few blog posts, but again in the end all that matter is, that people tried. Surrender without a fight is not the solution to any problem in the world.

Thanks, Ben, for encouraging apathy and complacency in the face of corporate mandates. He's saying:

1. All your tweets are like farts in the wind.
2. Only buying matters, but if the PS4 sells less it won't necessarily be because of used games.

So... do nothing!

i don't like the guy but this is a gross misrepresentation. did you read the article? He says go DO something, like make a purchase of a system that supports what you believe.... i.e. the Wii U.

It's a fair point he makes, there is a difference between talk and action.

START ACTING.

sure nintendo fucked up the launch, but I'd rather have a fucked up launch and a drought of games for a little while if it means NO DRM, and used games/trades or ok. Nintendo is going to be the most consumer friendly console this coming gen, if that matters to any of you out there, it'd be nice to see your support. Not on GAF, not on ay message boards, but by actually fucking supporting the console by buying one.

Sony/MS aren't going to look at the Wii-U sales and think, "Their sales must be going up because we're considering blocking used games / using restrictive DRM and they aren't going to buy the PS4/Xbone." The only time Sony or MS will notice us voting with our wallets is when it's too late. Right now, this is the best we can do.

Yes, we need to keep it civil, that's one of the reasons we are better off without 4chan. No bots, no offensive tweets and no spamming.

The "don't waste your time complaining, speak with your wallet" argument is disheartening. Maybe this campaign won't ultimately do anything but it definitely won't hurt and it's the only thing we as consumers can do prelaunch to try and prevent this from happening.
