What do you think?

Referring to the fans as simply "passionate" instead of addressing what they're being passionate about is the disconnect here.

Sony hasn't made an official stance on this issue, so those on Twitter have to be very careful with their wording in order to not get in trouble with the company. But i'd say the fact that they're even acknowledging the tweets is a good sign.

Can't get any more special than what we're seeing here. Very proud of the community (which does include gaming journalists).

Former. In an ideal world, they get this out of the way before the conference.

I agree though I think IF this is successful and they won't have the limitations, they will announce it via the press after the conference rather than on their press conference.

Just a feeling I have.

Hopefully they listen, although I don't think they can do much more than not implementing certain measures at a system level. They still have to listen to the 'other side' (companies like EA) and find the best compromise.

Great tweet I just read: "What does DRM mean for me? If your mate gives you a game for free, you have to pay to play it".

The casuals will understand that.

Great tweet I just read: "What does DRM mean for me? If your mate gives you a game (that he's already played) for free, you have to pay to play it".

The casuals will understand that.

Only bit I would add is in bold but besides that, yeah the casuals would understand that I'm sure.

We should be careful to make it clear that this is a result of Microsoft's policies, not anything that Sony has done. We don't want people interpreting the campaign as a response to Sony messing up.

hopefully this, combined with their stock fluctuation and the community outrage that the microsoft conference had do something

if it doesn't do something i have no idea what to believe

amazing op, great job

Publishers would be waving goodbye to over 40% of their revenue if Sony pulled PS3 publishing licences.

This idea that publishers will stay away from PS4 if Sony dump the DRM is ridiculous.

It's more likely that MS will get DLC sweeties for a while and maybe some advertising exposure as a bonus.

40%? maybe it's just the hype getting to me, but I have feeling that PS4 will have larger userbase than that.

Whats better?

- Press statement now that there won't be DRM on PS4
- Opening the Sony E3 Conference with "We listen to Gamers. No (draconian) DRM on PS4. No internet connection required."

I say E3. IF the campaign continues, they can show their fans' commitment to their platform onstage when they make an announcement.

Sony is in a dilemma, if they cave Publishers will bail, if they go the DRM route they stand to lose "x" amount of gamers.

If they have entered into an agreement with publishers via a contract to support DRM with splitting fees, its a done deal and they might as well get out in front of this story and say we are the bearer of bad news.

If DRM is the new normal, well digital copies of games should be significantly less, since the publisher doesn't have to pay for delivery and brick and mortar. Whatever the cost that is associated with getting games to retailers that cost should be considered for the digital copy. So if the retail cost is $60.00 bucks the digital copy should be $40.00.

them cloud servers ain't cheep
prices are staying the same if not going up with "depreciating dolla value due to natural supply and deman law"

Sony, now it's the time to show the loyal fans how important we really are for you! The hell with this DRM bullshit on PS4!

You guys in this thread are all awesome and famousmortimer deserves a medal.

Hopefully it does something but

WE CAN'T STOP NOW.

2 weeks until the 10th, their E3 conference.

Surely we can keep this campaign up for 2 weeks. Let them know that this won't disappear and if anything, it will be worse if they do announce something like what MS has done at E3 (or in their after E3 conference interviews).

Keep this up for 2 weeks, let them know what we think and hopefully they will announce what we want them to announce so they can't go back on it.

No, PS3 currently has around 45-50% market share for third party software revenue on consoles. Publishers who decline to publish on PS4 will be risking that revenue should SCE choose to play hardball (which is likely). Eventually the publishers would blink as investors force their hand, they won't like it and they will try to favour Xbone with DLC and advertising but gamers should flock to the non-DRM PS4 versions.

This is what I said;

@yosp @jpkoller @luckylongworth Hey what if the industry is actually more lucrative without these restrictions? #ps4nodrm #ps4usedgames

There is no evidence otherwise.

Anyhow, it'll be a real kick in the nuts if they do the opposite. I'm not getting my hopes up, lets not forget Sony did implement the online pass, even when MS didn't.
