This, or us will get price increase later.

Apple will do the same. And consumers will pay the price ❤Honestly. Screw Sony. Making the rest of the world pay more so they don't increase the price in usa
LMAO, at this rate the PS6 will cost 1000$
I wonder what their plans are if/when recession hits and people simply stop buying consoles altogether.
My DE is 5 years old by November. It cost me 399 flat.
Never would I imagine this would be the cheapest this system has been, and will be.
Did the Ps5 Digital Edition launch at €399 back in 2020, or am I misremembering?Europe PS5 Digital Edition – €499.99
(No pricing changes for the standard PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive)

This is crazy stuff..
Man, this economy is whack. It did. Then it got a price increase to 449 2 years later or so and now it's 499.
I know there are a few factors playing a role here, but still.. I'm playing games since 35 years and have therefor witnessed quite some generational leaps in terms of videogaming hardware. But this is the first time I'm seeing price INcreases (yeah, fucking plural) - especially for an already 5 year old device. It's getting ridiculous. It did. Then it got a price increase to 449 2 years later or so and now it's 499.
This is very concerning news for the future of PlayStation, an expensive platform with expensive games where you can only play in one place and no robust subscription service or handheld on the horizon.
How can the prices of something that is supposed to go down with time due to better manufacturing efficiency and old components becoming cheaper we going up? Explain this to me please. It's clear that selling hardware below 500€ has become really challenging.
Prices are generally going up and not down.
I doubt that PS6 will be launched at less than 599€ for example.
But quite frankly it's in the US where the price should be raised, but they won't do it because they consider that market too strategic and highly competitive.
€399.99 in Europe and £359.99 in the UK.Did the Ps5 Digital Edition launch at €399 back in 2020, or am I misremembering?

It's like companies think videogames consoles are Veblen goods lol
Unfortunately, yes. I wish Microsoft didn't give up on Europe and instead continue to bring the heat to Sony. Anyways, they're out of the hardware business, so it's not coming back ever. Sad times. They have a monopoly in Europe, so they can do whatever they want. Microsoft literally stopped selling xboxes here, so![]()
Sony likes money and knows xbox isnt competition anymore, ofc they gonna keep raising prices, in the US too, for sure, they just using boiling the frog tactics to get less pushback xDThis, or us will get price increase later.
No no no it's totally different now see. Nintendo are pure evil and the most anti consumer beating even ea & ubisoft. Poor Sony has been forced to do this against their will they really hate price gouging customers /gafAnd Nintendo are the bad guys? Fucking Sony gougers![]()
I think you just hit the nail on the head, isn't the Switch 2 like £400 or somethingThis is also because Xbox is so weak. They have very little competition and they want to set themselves apart as the more premium console compared to Switch 2.
Biggest single market that's cheap to ship to.They can't mess with their biggest market, so buffering Tariffs through secondary
PS2 also had a far better lineup of games at that point in its life.By this point in its life, the PS2 was $149 (half its launch price), and less than a year away from dropping to $129. Remember when consoles got cheaper with time?
With switch 2 getting more third party support and pc gaming growing i don't think they can behave like they have a monopoly. They have a monopoly in Europe, so they can do whatever they want. Microsoft literally stopped selling xboxes here, so![]()
In any case this is Europeans funding the impact of Trump's tariffs on the US consoles so that they don't raise the price there...it's shameful but it's clear where their priorities are.
That's the smart way of doing it.£429 for the digital?
What the actual feck.
Just bought one for £329 with Astro bundled in.
What a time to buy.

Except in the next 3 months US can reach an agreement with the EU and the tarrifs will not take effect. Will the price go down?

Sony seizing the momentum for more corporate greed. I got the Steam Deck, I'm out.
So gamers in Europe need to send Sony a clear message that we are not ok with that. Easy. They're gonna recoup that extra tariff cost from elsewhere without fucking up their primary market where it sells the most.
Absolutely fucking scum of a company. Price for production goes down, raise prices WW to cover US market on their fanbase footing the bill while having record breaking quarters.
Probably the shittest thing Sony has done since rootkits.
I love how they doing it in the middle of the night on a sunday lol. They thought people wont notice it or what
