Because they make games that are much better and that people care about that paying a little bit of a premium is irrelevant? Consistently great output of games, GoTY contenders pretty much every year, some of the best games of each generation. It has being going on for multiple generations in a row now, it ain't nothing new.
If people only cared about value and paying as little money as possible they would just go play F2P games.
Yet they still lost in the end to a company that was close to going broke.

After some careful thought, that's probably realistic especially if they keep pumping out quality games. Them being priced over the Series X for now with a very similar gaming library and graphic capabilities is what concerned me.

If you care about such a thing … paying. More while there's is a war and sky high inflation is not flattering for companies that make enough money .. but they rather keep driving their rolls Royce I guess .. instead of giving something back to the world , like taking the hit in revenue.

You don't see the value in Sony games or PlayStation, many people do. I would pay way more than an extra $30 to get a PlayStation instead of an Xbox. There hasn't been a single Xbox game in countless years that I felt was worth $60, to be honest, for me I don't think there ever was one.

They didn't exactly do that all the time then either.
PS3 had its own price-hikes following the 2008 fallout. So did 360, PSP, NDS, and possibly the Wii although that launched so late in affected regions it might have escaped it. People just don't remember it because it wasn't in US, Japan or Europe. Although PS3 in Japan was shafted when it came to price-drops that everyone else got - so, not much better.
Also it was partially obscured by the inane SKU revisionism - oh that extra 70$? That's for the 20GB extra HD space we are graciously giving you in the new base SKU - it's totally not a price hike, pinkie swear, wink wink nudge.
Actually no - UK price includes 20% sales tax, making it 61,905,321 yen to Sony. US in fact makes them more money even without a price increase at the current Fx.
And consoles are one of the rare few user-electronics that even follows this pricing model, mainly because market was not US centric to begin with.
Vast majority of other products that are dominated by US companies are usually shafting other countries much worse. Ie. start by pricing it at 1:1 exchange, and then add the Euro tax on top. So for a US company electronic product (say, a Surface Laptop, or iPhone, or Quest 2) that costs 1000$ in US - you'll pay 1100-200 Euro (or more in some cases). And that was when US:Euro exchange was 1:1.20. With the 2022 currency crash - I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing 30-40% price delta for the same products within a year, relative to US.

PS5 sales as of March 2022 were 19.3. Xbox Series sales were 15.08.
If it was outselling the xbox 2:1, the PS5 wouldve sold 30 million units.

Sony should have kept the same price as launch in all the affected markets or they should have planned the cost of the systems better from the get-go.
I mean, like it or not, it is worth mentioning. Companies deal with rising costs differently. Both are companies here so you don't need to take offense in any shape or form. If that is relevant, he can bring that up on a "gaming" board. No need to get all bent out of shape lol.

Ampere Analysis estimates that Sony had sold 21 million PS5s worldwide compared to Microsoft's Xbox Series consoles at 13.8 million.
We know PS5 is at 21.7 million, those estimate aren't far off.

An that's with MS having a sub $300 console on the market with ample supply, the whole narrative about Xbox closing the gap and this gen being like the PS360 generation never made any sense. Sony has all the momentum from PS4 and nothing extraordinary has happened to change things and they had a great output of games in these first 2 years.

They are bigger then they were last gen at the same time and the PS4 ended selling above 2:1.
Initial sales have more to do with manufacturing than anything else, the gap builds over time.

He's confusing MS saying the Playstation FOUR outsold the Xbox ONE 2:1 in a recent court filing.
Xbox has actually outsold the PS5 in NA the last 3 quarters running and while MS doesnt release their numbers, they are roughly 15 million units sold.
The only trouble I see in MS land is that Series S is not selling all that well. They had a sale yesterday where they were giving away 2 free games with every series s console. If the console was selling so well, they would not be giving away Madden and Elden Rings for free with it. The Series X is still selling well although it has been in stock for a while in my local Bestbuy and Target. I wouldve expected it to sell out immediately.

You are correct. 2:1 means that for each console Xbox sells, Sony would sell 2. That would mean Sony would sell 100% more consoles than Microsoft, not the 50% he first used.

Not confused. 21.7/2 = 10.9. How far is it from 13.9? It's an easy round up. Soon enough, we wouldn't need to round up as it'll become a reality with how many PS5's are flooding the market. Compare that to PS4/XB1 era and that's how it panned out.
