PS5 shooters need Gyro aiming options standard

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I don't consider aiming being more precise a benefit. It is one of the main reason I don't like playing shooters with a mouse.

Back when quake an unreal were the big dogs it was fine. But when you combine precise aiming controls with slow paced gameplay it means everyone is deadly accurate. Which means games become more about shooting first, which means everyone sits around preaiming corners. Which I don't find enjoyable.

I like when precisions is challenging and getting caught out of cover isn't a death sentence.

You don't like games with a mouse, because mouse isn't standard, so the AI is dumbed down to accomodate slow dual stick users. If gyro was standard, the difficulty could be increased and the gameplay would be more interesting.

I should specify I am primarily talking about the impact on multiplayer. Single player obviously isn't a big deal either way since as you, mentioned AI can be adjusted.

Makes sense. Splatoon has a lot of fast movement options horizontally, on walls, jumping, and stealth in the ink that keeps the pace fast and frenetic along with more accurate aiming. The game would have to be designed around it, as you correctly said. Good point.

Long enough to know it's not for me.
And that's okay. But there are quite a few people who seem to think that if they don't want to use gyro aiming, then nobody should be able to use it. To me, that's very unfair to the people who do like it. I absolutely agree that it should be optional in most games that impliment it. But it's silly to suggest it shouldn't be included at all just because you don't like it. This isn't directed at you specifically, just the people who say that Motion controls shouldn't be included in any game at all.

Having to waggle around a controller to make aiming even easier gets a hard pass from me.

Unpopular opinion, but I find aiming in most slow paced cover based shooters fairly trivial as is and wish developers would go in the opposite direction and try to make aiming more challenging and rewarding.

You don't waggle anything. Your info is out of date.

How so? I've used it in the 3DS and Vita. It's fun for single-player games, but there's no way it's faster than an analog stick. It just won't work for multiplayer gaming.

The muscles in your thumb can move many times faster than using several muscles in both of your wrists/hands to gyro aim.

On an analog stick, you only have to move the stick millimeters to aim.
For gyro aiming, you have to move centimeters to aim.

It's just common sense.

Watch this video. He tests sticks, mouse, and gyro.

So. Even if it is it's our opinion we can have them right?
I have tried motion controls with Splatoon and hated it is that 2007?
We can't have nice things because it wasn't very nice from the beginning , my information is based on my own experience don't try to put words in my mouth.

Never put words in your mouth. To each their own. I don't like the negative kneejerk response to gyro because the majority of the time it's based on old info and impressions.

I used to kneejerk and say "No, fuck that!" myself, until I looked at current info and tried it in modern games. Now, I'm a fan of it and advocate for it.

I mean... maybe but I have steam controller which has the best possible gyro aiming. I gave it a lot of practice and I just do not like it. Gyro is fantastic to control mouse quickly from couch but I never was able to learn it well for gaming
Fair enough.

Trust me in that you are wrong on this. You don't use gyro instead of the sticks, you use two sticks and gyro all at once. It's basically like controlling aiming with three sticks at the same time. You have broad movements and positioning with the sticks, and rapid micro-adjustments with the gyro all occurring at the same time effortlessly, and much faster. In addition, large sweeps of the camera can be performed fast with gyro too.

You're exactly 100% wrong, because the best possible example of it is actually Splatoon which is multi-player focused.

If you wont buy Splatoon and try it out for yourself, at least watch this video. This has been common consensus for almost 5 years.

Splatoon is such an awful example, it's so sloppy, it's meant to be sloppy, yes I use motion controls in that game, but they've made the analog stick controls awful in it for aiming.

You really don't need to aim precisely in Splatoon games, and that's ok.

Gyros for Rainbow 6 Siege? ROFL!

Analog sticks aren't the answer, but gyro really isn't a solution either.

I mean, I don't know until I try for Rainbow Six. But I liked it, and it felt the same with arrows in Breath of the Wild, and lasers in Starfox Zero.

Splatoon shots do have different arcs since it's paint, but there are still precise sniper rifles and more focused type rifles.

People are praising gyro aim in games that aren't Splatoon either. Look how popular it is on Steam.

Days Gone has a pretty good implementation.

Pressing L2 to aim re-calibrates the gyro, the stick is used for wide movements, and the gyro is used for precision. Give it 15 mins of use and you'll have a good grip on it.

I dislike aim assist and used sticks without it to play all of Days Gone. Once they added motion aiming I gave it a shot and with gyro I'm able to hit my target way more consistently at range. It also feels smoother to aim with it. I do think they could stand to bump up the sensitivity even more.

the only issue is that most developers are actually too stupid to properly implement it.

on Switch barely any game that has gyro aiming has actually good gyro aiming. none of them even come close to Splatoon 2 or 1 (which has slightly better aiming actually).

most developers implement dumb shit like over the top mouse acceleration, extreme amounts of smoothing or extremely high "dead zones" meaning fine movment will not be detected.

only a tiny fraction of games, on Switch for example, actually have well implemented gyro aiming.

Splatoon, Zelda and Warframe.

examples of absolutely atrocious gyro aiming is Fortnite, one with pretty bad but slightly better gyro aiming is Warface and most games are in-between these 2.

meanwhile on PC via Steam and a Switch pro Controller, all you have to do to get practically perfect gyro aiming is turn mouse emulation on in Steams controller settings, if you want bind it to a button or leave it on permanently, turn off acceleration and smoothing, and it's pretty much perfect.
which is why it's so baffling that 90% of developers are too stupid to do exactly this... emulate a mouse with no smoothing or acceleration, done.

funnily enough Mobile Game devs already practically mastered this. the gyro aiming in such games as PUBG Mobile, CoD Mobile or Super Mecha Champions is precise and has no smoothing or other shit applied

Sony needs to start making shooters again first, then we can talk about gyro/controls. Like, where are you gonna use the gyro at? GoW? SM? HZD? TLG? DS? There are barely any games on Playstation that would benefit from gyro controls currently. Maybe Sony will resurrect Resistance, MAG, more Killzone etc. on PS5, but unless they do, Playstation is not the domain of shooters, to say the least. Which is a shame because I still remember how fucking awesome Black was back in the day, not to mention PS3 era and all of the mentioned shooters it had. We had KZ:SF and UC4, and that's pretty much it, and that was years ago... We will get back to the topic tomorrow after we get to know what PS5 has to offer.

I do know that Horizon not having the ability to aim your bow with gyro, yet the Breath of the Wild does is completely inexcusable. Same for Uncharted 4 and LL. Golden Abyss supports it, what's those games' excuse?

God of War: Aiming the Leviathan Axe
SM: I don't know what this stands for
Horizon Zero Dawn: The bow and anything else that needs to be aimed
Death Stranding: Guns, grenades, and equipment that requires aiming

Anything FPS should be a given, for all other games, anything that requires you to hold/press a button to aim.

At least it's coming to PC and we can add it ourselves, shame we have to do that though to get the most out of the DS4, it would be such an easy option to add in a menu.

Why use a steering wheel in a car when we could use a control stick instead? You have to move your entire arms! That's insane!

Thank the lord we have common sense.

The fact that people think gyro aiming is literally flailing your controller around the rooms means your moronic and dont even grasp what we want out of gyro aiming. All i want is to be a little bit more precise than I can be when compared to an analogue stick. Gyro aimig lets you make subtle and increment movements to say land a headshot than useing a stick and under or over estimating where its going to go. Days gone is a good example of slowly moving the crosshairs over and landing a perfect headshot everytime when compared to missing.

ITT: People that never played Killzone Mercenary. Probably the best implementation of gyro aiming.
RIP that game's MP, at least I still have botzone.

It's honestly so tragic. Splatoon made me realize why I do not like shooters. It's because I've been a console only game my whole life and made me realize sticks suck for shooters. I've heard the mouse vs. stick debate for years but gyro really opened my eyes. I bought Days Gone the moment they announced gyro aim as an update. And while it's not comparable to Splatoon it works way better than pure analog aim. It's so much damn fun.

I love The Last of Us but hearing that TLOU2 does not have gyro aim when Bend studios are the ones to bring it over to Uncharted on the Vita is really sad. I know it sounds lame but I even emailed them asking for the feature.

They are touting their accessibility options but aren't including it as an option is sad.

Gyro is the most underutilized feature on PS4. I just wish a dev would push it as an option.

Call me a shill but Nintendo really is at the forefront of advancement in gameplay mechanics when it comes to consoles. They utilized the features they implement in their consoles.

Splatoon is the most innovative console shooter on the market.

Bend even included it in a Days Gone update. Sony really needs to push its first parties to use its controller features more consistently, especially in places where it makes sense. I get not wanting tacked-on waggle, but Horizon not having Gyro aiming when BotW does is completely inexcusable and should be called out.

Days Gone is so much fun. Probably the most fun I've had out of most of the exclusives on PS4 besides Bloodborne.

There's no comparison between gyro and sticks (gyro is so fast and precise that people watch it on youtube and think that is a mouse LOL).

Btw I remember another topic about this last month.

There's no way I'm going to play any type of shooter on a console that doesn't give me the option to aim with gyro.

I used it in Splatoon 1 & 2 and thought it worked well enough in those games so if it was a standard option in all games I would definitely give it a go.

I would hate to get used to it in one or two games though and then not have the option in others so I think it should be a standard option if they do introduce it.

Anyway, it's either all or nothing, PS3 with Sixaxis clearly shown people don't want mixed controls, where some part of the games are played with analogs and some with gyro. ND even patched UC1 to let people turn off Sixaxis controlls because people complained so much. It's just too distracting unless a game utilizes gyro all the time, people just get frustrated when they want to use something and it doesn't work, and they need to remind themselves that's the part you have to use motion controls. It has been tested, didn't work.

The difference is that in the PS3 days, Sixaxis was mostly bolted on junk that was poorly implemented in half the games developers used it in. There were some decent uses of it for sure, but the likes of Lair have soured people on it. But now that games like Dreams and Days Gone, and half of the first party Switch lineup showed everyone how to use motion controls in a traditional controller setup, people are clamoring for it.

So all the people playing on the switch and the doom guys adding this are in the wrong? Either way, no one says that they should force it, just give it to me as an option.

I for one can't stand it. But I by all means don't oppose or for those that want it. Especially for those that may require for accessibilty. Of its optional win for everyone

It doesn't cost them anything, right?
Why not just add it as an option.

My experience from Lair and Star Fox were really shitty though.

To be honest I miss the Wii/PS Move system of pointer based aiming. Killzone 3 was a blast online, being able to aim anywhere on the screen at any moment almost felt like cheating :messenger_grinning_sweat: It'll likely not come back but gyro seems a decent option so long as it remains optional and isn't used as standard. Only really used it on the Wii U with BOTW myself tho

last generation aiming schemes like this will be the first to go in the grand holy mission to erase nintendo from the timeline :(

it's ok, it will be like they never existed. just like Atari. Atari used to be hot crap in the world of video games, now they represent a failed vision of the past that no one remembers.

LOL, is this a joke?

I know, it's hard to believe but here was actually a time in the past when such a failed concept as the ability to "switch" between a portable and a home console was actually considered to add more than 10 cents to the value of a system :(

100%. Using it in cod mobile gives a massive advantage. It allowed for faster look controls and more accurate and precise long shots. Once you get used to the SLIGHT wrist movement needed, it is glorious.

Id take this over aim assist. The amount of times ive had my aim dragged off target because two of the enemy team mates run past the guy im aiming at...

problem with those videos and the one on the previous page is there is nobody sprinting or jumping to show a good example of it. am interested to try it out though
