PSA: Alan Wake Remastered is Free on Xbox Right Now (Limited Time)

adamsapple

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Update:

It's dead, Jim. AW: R does not show free anymore even after redeeming the trial.

Original:

They put out a 3 hour trial for AW2 as part of the Free days to play (ends Sunday), as part of that, it seems like if you redeem that free trial, Alan Wake Remastered becomes free to buy. This is listed as a purchase, so it will remain in your account even if any sub service lapses.

Just tested it myself and it works, you can redeem the trial even if you already own AW2 (like me), though in this case you'll need to go via the console dash. If someone doesn't own AW2, they can redeem the trial and get AW: Remastered quicker from the website.

I know it says "Just for you" in the image, which may make it look like a targeted deal, but it didn't say that before I redeemed the trial, then that banner and the free availability popped up.

As much as I'd love to play 2, because I did really like 1, I'm too much of a bitch when it comes to jump scares. There's a mod apparently that gets rid of them for the base game, but not the DLC.

I doubt I'll ever play this but free is free. I've had AW1 on steam from some free thing from yearssss ago and haven't touched it. Can confirm it works tho.

Steam has the original version, right?

For reference, this remaster was pretty decent. They remade Alan and Alice's models to make them closer to their actors, it also includes the DLC story chapters and two sets of dev commentary tracks, both the original and one newly recorded for it. Pretty decent package.

that's really a shame you don't get access to it :(

It will work even if you own the game. I've owned the game since launch and just redeemed.

The web store won't let you download the trial, but you can go to the Free Play Days tile on the console dashboard and redeem the trial from there.

Then AW1 Remastered became free for me.

j0hnnix j0hnnix I'm gonna get this fucker to your account one way or the other, lol

I must be a little slow on this. I already down AW2. When I go to the AWR link, it says I need to buy it for $29.99. I am logged into my account. AW2 says INSTALL TO, YOU OWN THIS. AWR says #29.99. I assume I can't see a way to redeem the AW2 trial because I already own it?

Better game in every way compared to its successor

I'm not seeing this anywhere. Maybe I need to reboot my console?

You should see the Free Play Days tile under the Game Pass app:

I had the same issue at first.

I fixed it by going to the Free Play Days tile on the console itself (see above), here I was able to 'redeem' the trial.

After redeeming, even the console told me that I already own the game and I can download it.

At this point when I refreshed the web link for AW: R, it showed the free download button.

I am going to try this now.

Alan Wake is such an awful fucking game it’s amazing that people still talk about it. I tried it a few weeks ago and the combat was just some of the worst shit I’ve ever seen.
I refuse to believe that anyone actually likes playing this game

You made me reminisce on my teen years when I used to be way more edgy on forums, coming into threads about stuff I didn't care about just to call things shit and rile people up.

Those were the days.

It's a thread about Alan Wake. I am advising that it is not worth playing even for free. It's not about "riling people up", I don't care what they do.

Well, thank you! Of course, I tried the remote access via the Xbox App to my console at home, clicked on the free play app icon, and it says YOU CAN'T ACCESS that when remote playing. BASTARDS. I will do that when I get home. Thank you!

I guess the sale is already over? Says 30 for me.

Not a sale, if you redeemed AW2's free trial, AW: R showed as free. I don't know if its still there or not, I already redeemed it at the time of making the thread.

I think it was meant to be a genuine gimme for people who are buying AW2 but somehow the system also triggered it for people redeeming the free trial.

Get it on mine please. I have tried everything you posted (thank you btw). I am on my console, on the Free Play Days, Clicked on Alan Wake 2, and I have Install, you own this, buy as a gift, choose edition and FREE TRIAL DOWNLOAD now. I clicked on that and it said I already owned this pile of rubbish. Then I went to your AWR link you have here, made sure I was signed in, and it still says $29.99.

I may be stupid, but I am not dumb!
