PSN, Battlenet, Riot, and others DDOSed; PSN returning lightly toasted with butter

Does anyone recall that the FBI caught the LULZSEC ringleader and used him to round up the others? It seemed like nothing was being done when behind the scenes they were hunting them down.

All I know is this. You don't make associations to ISIS, call in a bomb threat that gets a flight diverted, and tweet about 9/11 without drawing the intent interest of several United States agencies.

I don't know how secure these hackers think they are, but piss off enough people and someone is going to come after you, and eventually find you.

Why do people not have the right to complain about Sony right now?

At this point, it doesn't matter how the network went down (hack, DDOS, bugs, etc...) point is, it's down again. And the competitor's network has been up the whole time.

I was going to buy Destiny for PS4 day 1, now there's no way I'm going to do that.

Then don't.

But read the person you're defending, they're raving incoherently.

Absolutely not. You're really grasping at straws, here.

If you say so chief, we'll agree to disagree.

- to any one else, I know it's a stressful time for you guys, and I know a lot of you are Sony fanboys (whether you admit it or not), but look a the big picture...Sony are under attack, they need more robust systems in place to defend such attacks and keep the service you are now paying for...up and running - They shouldn't be considered just the 'victim' in this situation - they are indeed, partly to blame.

Has everything to do with what is happening in my opinion. Yes, I have an issue with Sony, I am down a considerable amount. In the last 2 months they have presented themselves to me as a bastion of invincibility security wise, and in the last 2 days, because of the DDoS attacks...this has been proven not true. Even if no data has been hacked, it is still a security and service issue that they have not been able to handle.

Security has nothing to do with DDOS.

I wonder how this will affect sales for Sony. A few of my friends are already talking about the down time on PSN and considering getting Xbox Live for Destiny. Sony needs to get working on this ASAP.

You been getting disconnects for 2months? What happened in these 2 months?

fucking sucks dude.....all that momentum just to be dragged by some assholes probably using wordpress sites to flood the server......pathetic.

Surely it's both, I highly doubt XBL is what it is today because MS snapped their fingers one day.

Oh no obviously, servers don't just appear into existence, and obviously it takes time to build that sort of infrastructure, but I would imagine long-term, Sony's biggest hurdle would be the cost of such an investment?

I do wonder, with how the world and society is developing, whether safeguarding against this type of thing reaches beyond the gaming community.

Steam only let's me log in when it feels like it. Google the issue and you will find it's been happening for years and zero progress has been made. In fact it seems to be progressively getting worse for me. Submit a ticket and they'll do as good as nothing for you.

Edit: I also haven't been able to view the store page for half a year and have to make my purchases off the mobile app instead, which coincidentally works fine.

Have you check port forwarding issues?
That's usually the problem for me when it comes to steam log ins.

I am really curious to know why people think they are trying to attack live and are failing?
They could easily just try to make it look like they cant bring down MS by purposefully underestimating their target to make Live look good and PSN look like shit and well its working. NO body is immune to DDoS. people saying they are going to switch to live is exactly what these people want and they will continue to do this kind of shit if it works so maybe we should not give them what they want so I can play some games

You know while I hate the pieces of shit doing this I have to agree. Sony should have actually oh I dunno upgrade their shit and be prepared after the 2011 hacks. It's not a surprise that Sony for some reason has been the target of groups as far back as then due to things they did. Yet it seems that Sony hasn't been prepared at all. If even some of the stuff they say Sony has continued to allow happen security wise is true then that is just bullshit on Sony's end and uncalled for.

Say what you want about the shit Microsoft pulled you can't deny that live stands up against this shit when everyone else folds faster then TNA wrestling burns through money. It's just nuts.

You need to take it up with the people responsible then. They could target MS instead if they want. But let's say that this is a kid with high orbit cannon and a grudge, are you gonna cave on a product you wanted for their tantrum? They can't do this forever and not get caught.

Have you check port forwarding issues?

I'll take a look! Thanks!

it's amazing to me that this thread is now 100+ pages and there are people that still do not understand that a DDoS is an entirely different beast then what happened to PSN in 2011.

Conjecture. We know fuck all apart from what a bunch of utter bellends have been feeding us through a Twitter account.

This makes it sound like you think ms are paying these guys to give sony bad rep. xbox live has always been more stable then psn through its entire life cycle, servers are microsofts bread and butter so it's not surprising.

Last gen ppl could accept that because multiplayer was free on ps3 , but this time now users are paying they have a lot higher expectations.

This is just as ridiculous as the people trying to turn this into a console-wars thread. What incentive do these hackers have to align with MS? They attempt to take down nearly every large gaming service (Sony, Blizzard, etc), but for some reason side-step Xbox live because reasons?

Preventing from DDoS attacks is something very few people in the world are qualified to do. It's a field that's constantly changing and there's no easy fixes. It's not as simple as "getting more pipes" or "upgrading your shit from 2011."

People complaining about Sony as if it has anything to do with 2011's security breaches have no idea what they're talking about.

Look at it this way: a DDoS is like having ten million people knock on a door so nobody can walk through it. It doesn't matter how good your locks are in this scenario.

I do remember having some log in issues with steam now in the past, that was indeed annoying.

They might have Xboxes and enjoy multiplayer..? *snort*

Lol, I'm not sure if this is serious.

Do you honestly believe MS are immune to such an attack? Even if MS owned every server in the world, there are still a few orders of magnitude more compromised Windows boxen out there which can be ordered to all initiate connections simultaneously.

If there's a site in the world that's not currently being DDoS'd, it's because no one is really trying. Botnets are ridiculously huge.

Well isn't this a coincidence or is it? Next week the Xbox One officially launches here and now PSN is getting hammered again? Looking at MS' track record (netscape anyone?) I seriously wonder if this is JUST a coincidence

Maybe it's because XBL did go down for some for a bit? I couldn't login for about 5-10 minutes, on Sunday.

Unfortunately, this vulnerability could potentially hurt PS4 sales if Xbox Live's ability to stave off these attacks is proven. Amazing timing given all the PR MIcrosoft has been investing in over the last few weeks about having the best multiplayer. I am in no way suggesting they are related, but it could be a hearts and minds victory for MS if PSN keeps getting taken down by these attacks (especially on big release days like today).
Didn't Live also get attacked yesterday?

I have no idea what you are talking about heh.

If only ms had paid them a year ago and the sales might have been a lot different....... *puts on tin foil hat *

I think anyone thinking MS has anything to do with this is seriously mentally ill.

Regarding Destiny.

Assuming Bungie's servers = Activision servers = Battlet net servers, then everyone would be down during the next DDoS attack anyway.
