PSN, Battlenet, Riot, and others DDOSed; PSN returning lightly toasted with butter

As long as I can play my games offline I'm fine, I mean DDoS attacks are common today and they can just happen.

Sucks for everyone who is locked out of his digital content though!

I've had my licenses bug out before so I'm not surprised some people are locked out of their games even with their system set as the primary one. A license refresh should fix the issue but since psn is down there's nothing they can do but wait.

I think this is right
I know for a fact it was set as my primary

I agree. I'm finding it hard to believe that so many people, who only own 1 PS4, failed to check the box that said "make this my primary PS4" when they were doing the set up. It probably is that "restore licenses" bug(?) which far too many people have had to deal with before.

This kind of thing is irritating and pointless. Did they just send out attacks to anything and then celebrate what they could actually get? Otherwise I'd be curious to know why they targeted these companies.

My wife quit playing WoW last night because of that attack. This morning she checked her phone and said she's glad they moved on to Sony.

She seems unpleasant.

I was hoping to play buy some diablo today :(
:(

Some good may come of this though; I think I found a bug. After I get the error saying I can't sign in, after acknowledging it, it takes me to a blank screen where I can't really do anything. Holding PS still brings up that menu though, and from there, the easiest workaround is Switching Users to yourself.

The people talking about free games are disgusting. There is no way they could have even prevented this, that's just how DDoS works. No one's getting anything.

I know a guy who is a programmer for some advertising agency, one that makes those digital screens you can find in shopping centers and whatnot.

Anyway, despite the fact that some of their displays have to run on bank holidays & sundays, no one is actually in the office, instead a few people are "on-call" and when theres a problem they do everything from home through stuff like, 'logmein'.

Being a sunday, it wouldnt surprise me if theres currently a skeleton crew at Sonys datacenter if theres anyone at all. Chances are they're all trying to fix the issue from a distance.

Of course i have no idea how Sony works, but i'm just putting forward the idea. I'd assume this would have been fixed faster if it happened during week day open hours.

Any time you're dealing with a 24 hour operation such as managing a data center or any type of shared services network there is always someone on-call. I work for a major news publisher in the US (on the digital/dotcom side) and we have our own datacenters to host not only our sites, but to host our share apps and services as well. The guys that oversee of data centers have people work in shifts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Even if its remotely on on holidays etc.

Put me down in the camp who cant acess their digital content

Weird thing is i tried to start up all my digital content and was told i couldnt. I tried this with killzone and i was greeted with the same error message but then right after it gave me an update file that its currently downloading even though i cant even access the game

Yep, we're just lying. I'm the only user on this PS4 and it's my only PS4. Their system isn't working as intended at some level, and they should fix that shit.

Again. Don't believe you when the system doesn't work that way. It doesn't even access PSN for that stage. If its not working now, it wouldn't work in the first place, and we all know that isn't the case.

So I got a watch dogs patch. Even though the network is down?

Its not down. Its being flooded with fake users, blocking the flow of data to legitimate users. You must have gotten through.

Would setting your ps4 as the primary console require the servers to be working? It seems to me like it would.

So for those of you that didn't have it set as your primary ps4, and then tried to set it while the servers are down, then it won't be set until they come back up.

I think. But it makes sense.

Of course it would, setting it to primary after the fact is useless until your console can get online to get the proper license

What's stopping anyone DDoSing a website on a daily basis for a month? That could fuck up things.

In really simple terms the DDoS plan is has a "signature".

To stop the DDoS they find a way to block that signature.

Once it's blocked, the signature does not work again.

And coming up with a Signature that actually does anything is challenging. It has to look like something legit that nobody has ever tried before (otherwise it will already be blocked).

It's a lot more complex than that on both sides, but that's the gist of it.

I just wanted to play FF14

I was going to put in a couple hours on FIFA and BF4 today. No thanks to terrorism, I now have to do this thing called "meeting friends for lunch"? Apparently you sit at a restaurant outside and consume food and copious amounts of drink while exchanging witty banter.

At this point there's no use continuing the discussion, but enough people have chimed in with the same issue that you should realize it's a problem on their end somewhere. If you think we're just lying (for what reason?), then whatever.

Can I play diablo 3 (physical copy) offline? I regret having so many digital games..
Say what you will about Nintendo locking digital games to your hardware, but at least if they go offline or even completely shut down, you can still play your games forever.

Why don't these kids put themselves to some fucking use and hack the PSN so I can play all my PS1 and PSP games on my Vita?

Also, I know DDOSing isn't a hack, relax.

Still would like an answer for my question:

There are measures to prevent DDoS attacks, but there are also ways to circumvent them.

As a followup to my analogy earlier, a DDoS is similar to an asshole parked in front of your driveway blocking your car. If you took steps to prevent that, they can always block the street, where you have no control.

I've been seeing a lot of people are having trouble accessing their digital games. For people having trouble access your digital games, MAKE SURE YOUR PS4 IS SET AS THE PRIMARY CONSOLE. Select [PSN] > [Activate as Your Primary PS4] > [Activate].

I'm all digital with my PS4 and I can access and play them fine when the PSN is down.

I don't know what that is.

Welcome to my experience with the PS4, where every other game session has some kind of issue like this. Only I usually get the added fun of having nothing happen when I hold down the Playstation button. My only recourse is to then hold down the power button for about 10 seconds until the system reboots, whereupon I'm berated by the PS4 for not powering it down correctly. It's always a fun adventure.

Looks like I can't sign into the PS Store. When I try to sign into the main SEN site it says it's undergoing maintenance.

Guess the clean-up's not over. :/

Which I could do earlier just fine with no connection at all, but later this morning it doesn't work. I had partial connectivity at one point, so I think my system trying to handshake with the servers got fucked up somewhere and now (since all connection is down), there's nothing to do until they fix it.

I don't believe you, because it makes literally zero sense. If it was reliant on the PSN at all, then the system wouldn't work in the first place, let alone now. I don't know if you're lying or messed something up in setting everything up, but your story as is simply does not follow. A few more people claiming they have the problem doesn't make it make more sense.
