PSN, Battlenet, Riot, and others DDOSed; PSN returning lightly toasted with butter

Guys! The PS3 PSN store still works :D! I just booted up my PS3 and the store was able to fully load :). I guess it is the Vita and PS4 stores that aren't up yet. Must mean that Sony fixed the PS3 one first and will move on to PS4/Vita next.
I can confirm, just booted up PSN store on PS3 myself :D

Polytron hacked: many get bitter and salty. PSN attacked: funniest and most entertaining thread in a while. This is NeoGaf and I love it!

If you think the nature of these attacks are at all on a similar level, you haven't been paying attention to anything.

Honestly, the best thing to come out of the 2011 Sony outage was they were fairly straightforward about what was going on once the dust had cleared, and they specifically addressed the types of security oversights that were taken advantage of. It was great communication outside of the original window. A DDoS is more of a cudgel than anything else, and there's really not much they can do to avoid it in the short term.

PSN will be a better service when this is all over.

If Microsoft's servers can't be taken down with a DDoS attack, couldn't Sony just copy whatever method MS uses?

How is this going to affect the planned maintenance? I was trying to sign on today to play, but also so I'd been on 24hrs before the maintenance so I could play tomorrow too. But I haven't been able to get on all day. So will I be screwed tomorrow? Will Sony delay the maintenance?

I guess but why weren't they doing that already? Earlier in the thread posters mentioned there wasn't a way to avoid this but they're apparentky actively trying on Xbox and Live is still up and running so there must've been some preventative action Sony could've taken.

Assuming that the random twitter account who only posted a bunch of IP addresses is telling you the truth. Then again, there's tons of information out there about DDoS attacks, what they are, why they're so difficult to prevent and what is done to mitigate some of that damage. Perhaps you should look at that instead of someone's twitter feed.

And to think this all started with a lizard that electrocuted on a crucial cable in one of Sony's datacenters, causing a worldwide PSN outage...

free games for a few hours shortage?... come on people
Especially since no ones personal info was harmed
I can see the PSN Flash Sale being extended though

You could say this for any company that gets DDoS attacked during this age. And yet, DDoS attacks keep happening. I guess Microsoft won't share their secret sauce for servers.

Can also confirmed that the Vita PSN Store is running now too :D! Looks like the PS4 store is the next one to be fixed soon :).

So you're saying the people responsible for this are leaving Live completely alone and just targeting PSN?

Money and tons of servers. I don't think Sony can afford the type of infrastructure Microsoft has setup. I work for a fortune 50 company that utilizes Azure. If those servers went down, we'd lose millions in sales per minute.
