PSP Euro : Returning your machine if duff

DCharlie

And even i am moderately surprised
From PSPupdates :

"If you happen to be one of the thousands who stood in line in order to shell out a couple of hundred quid for a PlayStation Portable, went home to discover a cluster of dead pixels on the screen - as is a recognised problem with the handheld console – don't bother returning it until Monday.

Doing some on-the-ground research staff in several retail stores, including HMV and Virgin Megastores, have said that Sony have not yet sent out the official returns procedure instructions, meaning that whilst some shops will take back handhelds on an ad hoc basis, in order to do it all in an above board manner you must wait until early next week when the returns policy makes its way to front line staff.

Meanwhile the problem of dead pixels on the PSP screen is an acknowledged and "normal" one, according to the handheld's manual, though we’ve seen cases of multiple clusters of them which can become quite noticeable when playing in the dark.'

Me and my brother both got one on Saturday night and both have got about 3 dead pixels each. I've yet to really notice it. If they're this common surely they won't exchange them that easily. Any screen grabs of what a bad case of dead pixels looks like?

Just got a link to this topics from someone on GameFAQs which explains the mistake some people are making by saying they have dead pixels when in fact it's just a stuck pixel. I've downloaded and played the video a few times which has removed two of what I thought were dead pixels leaving me with one actual dead pixel.

:D

<---ya, that video didnt work for me at all...

I still can't believe that I managed to buy two new laptops this year along with a PSP and all of them were totally free of dead or stuck pixels...but then I get a DS and have a large blue stuck pixel right smack dab in the middle. Revenge for my DS bashing? Perhaps...

Don't really care enough about it to do anything, though, but it is a tiny bit annoying at times.

Whats the difference between a dead/stuck pixel?

Dead = dark pixel that will never light again - no hope of a fix

Stuck = colored pixel that can even vary at times or, if you're lucky, disappear

Yup. Here's the full picture . They all just appeared a couple weeks ago after having no dead/stuck pixels since the american launch.

I've only got the one dead pixel, so it doesn't bother me, in fact it's unnoticeable during playing, just when the screen is white, like the Namco logo or the Wipeout loading screen. But a cluster like that, surely that's enough pixels to qualify as a faulty unit? I'm sure people worked out the percentage that Sony gave for a screen to be considered faulty and it was 13 pixels.

Yea, the thing is, it's still a 1.50 and if I replace it i'm gonna get a 2.0 back. And what really sucks is that most of the old games have simple colored backgrounds so when the blue backgrounds are present those pixels become really noticable.

Holy cow! Nintendo subliminal messaging in PSP screens!
