That'll show those bastards! Punish them by buying a PSP!

:lol :lol I do realize the irony of my statement. Maybe it's Sony's secret plot all along. Get people hyped up about a new PSP. Put it out at a ridiculous price. People end up hating the price, but since they're now jonesing for a PSP, they buy a cheaper one instead. It's brilliant marketing!!:D

BTW, so what can the PSP Go! do that regular PSP 3000 can't? (Other than be small)

You can buy PS1 games directly from its Store front and MGS PS1 is coming for PS3/PSP for US PSN store.

I don't currently have a PSP, but I'm wondering something. If you were to download a game via PSN to your PSP ... can you back it up to your PC?

There's rumors of a possible mail-in program in which you'd send Sony your UMD, and they'd give you a code that will link the digital copy to your PSN account.

Rumors from Sony ... or just the rumblings based on things people have proposed (like me)?

Yes with the PC app, Media Go, or something.

Is there any way to play FLAC files on the PSP (non modded one)? Is it natively supported, or is there a media player available that handles it?

they tried to do it with Warhawk on PSN, and stores retaliated by not ordering game after initial shipment (it was sold out right away). After that, PSN pricing is the same as Store for all games.

I'm hoping that with PSPgo, some PSN titles, and MS starting to offer full 360 game downloads ... there may be enough pressure that stores will simply accept it. If enough companies are jumping in, stores will have to back down, or they'd be cutting off their nose ...

not sure, warhawk thing wasnt pretty :).

Wow, the PSN store prices are actually good on PSP games!

Field commander psn $15 amazon $19
Gurumin psn $15 amazon $36
Jeanne D'Ark psn $22 amazon $30

Every game I've checked has been cheaper so far. :)

I'm glad to say that the design of the PSP Go is lovely. It's much more compact and sensible in the hands than we first thought it would be. The top and back of the unit is metal (or at least metal reinforced), and the top is sleek and simple, sporting only a hole for a strap and a few ports.

The screen was stunning, and did not seem to have the video issues the PSP-3000 has been accused of. Fast action games like Motorstorm showed no problems at all. Images just seem to fly off the screen in vivid color. We watched video clips and played several games in our hands on time, and I feel comfortable in saying that the PSP Go has the best screen ever put into a portable console.

*must resist*

Those are indeed some excellent prices.

$249.99 is expensive for a revised 3 year old hardware!
but i'll buy it anyways

edit: at the conference they did not talk about if it's possible to get your old UMD game onto the PSP Go.

Is there no way to play FLAC on the PSP though? That's the only thing that is kind of holding me back.

Don't think so, not yet atleast.

I never used FLAC, what's the advantage?

that's absolutely right. they don't seem to care to resell PSPs to people who already own one.

FLAC is good for storing lossless encodings (so you can convert them to whatever you want). But as far as playback? 320kbs MP3 should be more than fine. Some people swear by FLAC though.

Sony should do a voucher program for people who want downloadable version of their already bought UMD games by sending in some type of proof of purchase or something for upgrading to the PSPGo.

You'd have to mail your game in to get said voucher.

Kind of a crazy idea, but what if Sony took in your used UMD's, then resold them to Amazon or gamestop, returning a percentage to the original publisher?

that would make gamestop, publishers, and consumers happy

It's lossless compression

ahhh okay.

I would imagine for general playback 320kbs would be fine but I'm no audiophile :D

So I take there is no way to play FLAC on a PSP? :(

Well, at least MediaGo supports realtime encoding of FLAC to other formats. I suppose I can live with that if its fast. Still want some lossless though, but really don't want to actually increase the file size by going to PCM :p

Meh ... I don't think I can resist this thing though. After seeing the new pics and videos, it is so fucking shit hot. Now the only question is, what color. I was originally planning white, because the silver trim looked crappy in the original pics.

Having seen the videos though, the black looks amazing with the trim. Really distinguished. Gives it a nice high-end, Rotel like look ... especially given the system has metal trim.

Does anyone know if its matte black?

it's not a matte black, well the main surface isn't but under the slide it is (for the most part)

The controller sync is fucking TIGHT but does it look like the video out has changed at all? If they haven't put in a scale option that at least gets games to fill out the screen it's essentially useless for me.

Do you honestly expect them to put a HW scaler in there?

I was reading a press release last night and it said there is a new version of the video out, and that the existing psp2000/3000 cable wouldn't work. Could this mean something?

Even at £199.99 it would be expensive, £230?

:lol

EDIT

Just off the phone to the manager of my local Belfast store, he confirmed it's on the system as £229.99 RRP...

:O

I will definitely be importing if its going to be > £200.

At the current exchange rate $249 is approx. £150 which is a much better price.

Makes me a happy panda.

Indeed. Good to hear this:

And Sony itself is still, for the time being, committed to the UMD format. During the company's E3 press briefing, the company said that going forward, it would aim to release all of its PSP titles both on UMD and digitally at the same time, letting consumers select to buy media in either physical or digital format. "Yes, all dual-format, and we aim to go backward as well," Koller says, adding that Sony plans on converting at least 300 existing UMD titles to digital.

I was worried about some back catalog games that I may want to buy on the PS Store that I never bought (GoW: CoO, Crisis Core (didn't finish), and some others) so I'm happy!

I would have expected this price for a PSP2 that does all sorts of amazing things that I can't do with my first generation PSP... as it stands, that old clunker can still do more, and I barely use it.

I think I'm done with portable gaming... DS and PSP both are dust magnets.
