PSP Go? 249.99!!!!

Any word on the durability of this thing? One thing great about my ipod touch is that I can literally throw it into my backpack and not worry about the screen getting scratched up. While if I handled my psp in the same way I would have to worry about the screen getting scratched pretty badly, or the plastic cracking etc - it just feels cheap. So unless the PSP Go feels very durable, like something that can just be tossed into a backpack I'm not sure I really care about the portability and I'd feel better off keeping my 3000. I'm hoping at $250 they can match the build quality of an ipod touch.
I haven't seen any live demo where somebody try to test it.

That's his whole issue. If a product doesn't interest him, he assumes it doesn't interest anybody.
And let's be thankful that's not real life. If companies catered only to Evander and his interests, E3 would be nothing but underoos, wall scrolls and mallomars.

Look how small that thing is. Crazy.

If you don't want a PSP GO, keep your 2000 or 3000 or 1000, whatever. When I get a PSP, I will get the GO. It is tailored to what I want. I don't think Sony is targeting existing fans with this device. If they get some, great. If not, keep what you have. It isn't broken or abandoned and Sony is still selling the 3000 side by side with the GO.

Yes both Digital and UMD side by side.

Indeed, just get a PSP 3000 if you can't afford the PSPGo!

They said it depends on the game. I'm guessing niche games like Patapon will not.
Yea, but the thing about those games is that they can still be bought and played on the PSP 2/3000 anyways so it doesn't really matter. I'm really torn on this. I like the new system, but I don't like not having physical media......This will be tough. I'm really close to buying a 3000 at the moment to replace my 1000 that is older than dirt and beat up.

Well enjoy your Sony tax as Sony are the only ones who do it! MS would never charge too much for their proprietary stuff and Nintendo wouldnt keep hashing old tech and raising the price. You guys are clearly fanboys!

I will!!

thank you very much! :D

Any hand on impressions from any gaffers ??

yes, it was very informal though.

The nub fits just right IMO, screen was clear. buttons didn't feel smushy. smaller than it looks but it felt fine in my hands.

Of course, but he asked about UMDs.

The problem is that previous models have the exact same DD functionality.

The kindle is something new. The PSP Go! isn't.

WHY WOULD I BUY A KINDLE WHEN I CAN READ A BOOK ON MY DIGITAL WATCH RAWR PDF RAWR

Thanks Sony!!

Your ridiculous price on the PSP Go! Has got me to not bother with it. Instead, I traded in a batch of old games and I am getting the RockBand PSP bundle when it comes out next week. It's all pre-ordered and ready to go. I save $50 and get an extra game to boot.

Clean it and replaces it parts. Really easy to do.

it developed a dead pixel smack dab in the middle of the screen that really bothers me. It's not really dirty and the screen is scratchless, I dunno I just think it's time for a new PSP. The ghosting is wicked bad too.

Well the PSP 3000 has ghosting problems too. PSPGo is still up in the air.

Great pics bro. Yeah, this will be mine come October 1.

You know, Sony should sell a DD version of the game with every UMD purchase like DVD's offer them. That would be sweet.

Clearly the system is not for you then. I don't know why folks find this so hard to see. You don't value a smaller screen, form factor, and lack of drive where others find this and advantage they are willing to pay a premium for.

Wait, what? There are people here that do value a smaller screen? Really?

that's actually not a bad idea.

BLu ray movies have that digital copy, so it could work out well but the issue stil lies at hand of people who already have a library

You know b4 PS3 came out(and soon after), Blu-ray was said to be the next betamax....how'd that turn out?

Blu-ray was like a parasite that consumed the PS3 for its own gain and now it's going to crawl out of the dying corpse of the PS3 and do well on its own.

Really? You find that post and not what many others have said why people like smaller screens? It's more portable. The PSP's out now don't fit into pockets very well. It sticks out and it's heavy. Look at the pictures up above. That thing's like the GBA Micro for the PSP. I'm actually going to be able to play my PSP on the GO with this new one! Hmmm.....I wonder where Sony came up with the new name from?

This is for everyone here still trolling. If you don't like the PSP Go, why don't you just leave the thread? It's a shame this topic has become a giant argument between the people who like it and those who don't. There's been barely any discussion that's actually worth reading here. Go create a PSP Go hate thread or something.

For people who still thinks it wont sell; think about what's going on with the PSP right now. The systems are selling but people just aren't really buying the software. There's either a ton of piracy or people are buying one or two games and leaving it at that it seems like. This is like starting over in a way. If people aren't supporting the software the way it is, maybe it will do better this way. Think outside the box for once. I don't see people getting confused with buying applications on the iPod Touch / iPhone right now. Granted, there aren't physical media for them to be buying it on, but all Sony has to do is market it right.

If I worked at Gamestop and I saw someone buying a PSP Go and some PSP games, don't you think the employee would say something as well. I know it might get confusing but all it needs is good communication from Sony. By now, everybody who's interested in an iPhone knows you don't actually buy software for it. Once word starts getting out that there's no physical media for this thing, there shouldn't be a problem.

You tell em!! I think all the bastards who want to share their negative opinions on the GO should keep it to their own thread. I want to see more "so awesomes", "rawrs", and "day fuckings ones"... none of this stupid discussion shit

... my man.

Has it been confirmed/denied if the Go! has a traditional USB port or some Sony made up bullsh*t (after all the conformity goodness of the PS3 ala USB, Bluetooth, Multi-Format Card Reader, off the shelf HDDs etc I would hope the PSP Go! follows this method of logic)?

The 3000 still has a far better response time than the 2000, it's like halved so it's image clarity is still so much better with ghosting issues.

I was saying Blu-ray in general. Yes, it did damage the PS brand but did it become the betamax?? No...that was the point. PSPgo might do bad but given PS3 has done well for its steep price, i say so can Go. No such thing as " virtualboy failure" here.

But given the fact ignorants think PSP is a failure, although selling 50mil WW, I woulnt be surprised if go is labled a failure even after doing well.

I feel like $249 is a little expensive, but I would use this thing for everything. It would be my one and only portable media player. I mean, a 16GB iPod is still $300, and this PSP does everything it does, plus amazing real game, minus the touch screen. But I'm okay with the lack of a touch screen. Would trade it from those shitty iPod game to having real PSP games anyday.

Really looking forward to it. I've been debating with myself if I'm ready to stop buying actual physical games. I really wouldn't mind buying a UMD in a store and then immediately going to a kiosk in that store to transfer it over to my PSPgo.

I found that post and found it weird that someone would talk about a smaller screen as added value for paying a premium and so here I am asking if there are people that really do consider a smaller screen added value.
Form factor I can see, smaller screen as a plus? It seems so weird to me, since the 2 don't have to be linked (same small form factor with the same old PSP screen would have been possible, imho).

I want it sooo bad! BUt I don't know whether it is wise getting a first gen handheld console..Is it first gen? Or like 3rd gen now? Is this counted as a remodel or a whole new model?

Like most people Im finding it hard to see why it costs so much, is there ANY reason for somebody with a PSP 2000-3000 to upgrade? (like, if its a more powerful system or whatever)

THe screen did looked brighter compared with a DS lite on pics. If they solved the ghosting issue, that would be really sweet. I like the form factor, but the sliding thing is killing me, a slider might in time become loose or gets jammed.

The price is another killer though :(

Nintendo has a better idea on how to make a durable and effective handheld game machine.

Can you explain to me how a corpse can be dying?

found out tonight that with the included bluetooth you can sync your Dual Shock or SixAxis and using its video out play it on your tv with a real controller. Being able to play Peacewalker like this is reason enough.

SOLD.

i think considering its storage, its price is pretty spot on with other consumer products with the same internal memory, i mean a 16gb ipod touch retails for 299.

hands-on from PCWORLD:

That said, I've had a chance to lay hands on the device. And while I'm not exactly ecstatic about the price, I will say one thing: This is the design the thing should've had the first time around!

It's basically a Mylo with the keyboard ripped out and replaced by game controls. And I wouldn't be too surprised if they used most of the scrapped cases from that funky, defunct device. But I digress. After spending a couple minutes with the PSP Go, it felt great in-hand
....

It was difficult to get a true gauge of the weight because a big metal bracket lashed the system to a couter. Even though it's got a 16GB HDD, it didn't feel like it'd be too meaty in your mitts. The sliding mechanism felt firm and when shut it'll obviously make for a better video-viewer on your next flight. But as I said up top, this is the furthest thing from a review -- just a quick peek into what you can expect this fall.

Wow, I love my Original PSP PHAT! I bought it on Launch day, I have run about everything you can run on it Firmware wise, it has a perfect screen, no dead pixels, been to 2 different countries, and has never let me down.

I think the PSP Go is Sexy, but just not $250 sexy, not with my Emulator Machine, the PSP Phat still going strong.

Hands On from Destructoid (click on link for video)

I was wrong about the PSP Go. In our last Destructoid Discusses we expressed our feelings on the leaked photos and video of the system, and I now have to admit that we were a bit hasty with our judgments. I was probably the worst offender. I found myself calling out the design, button and controller placement, and just about everything else you could try to pick apart. And while my cohorts were happy to go along with me in this, now that I've had a chance to spend some quality time with the system, I have to say that I was wrong.

Instead, I've come away with the biggest case of technolust. The device is gorgeous. The design is sound. And the feel and controls? They're great. I'm not too proud to say that I was wrong, but in this case, Sony had to pull me away from a showing that ran far too long. They were doing the obvious watch check thing. They ran me off. I think they thought I was going to steal a PSP Go.

http://www.destructoid.com/e3-09-hands-on-with-the-psp-go-134707.phtml

edit: they updated article with more info, click above to check it out fully... important part:

I'm glad to say that the design of the PSP Go is lovely. It's much more compact and sensible in the hands than we first thought it would be. The top and back of the unit is metal (or at least metal reinforced), and the top is sleek and simple, sporting only a hole for a strap and a few ports.

The screen was stunning, and did not seem to have the video issues the PSP-3000 has been accused of. Fast action games like Motorstorm showed no problems at all. Images just seem to fly off the screen in vivid color. We watched video clips and played several games in our hands on time, and I feel comfortable in saying that the PSP Go has the best screen ever put into a portable console.

Two things.

1. I want to see the firmware this system is running on. Its deffintaly a newer version then what the curret PSP's have, and I want to see it. Someone should do a hands on tour of the system, showing all the ins and out of that OS.

2. Sony needs to get off their asses and make a Mac version of the new Media Manager. I swear, it blow my mind there still isn't one. If the system doesn't launch with both a Mac and PC version of that, I'm going to be pissed.
