PSP post-launch: Just as bad as the DS?

Probably one of the only times in US console release history where a great RPG is out within 1-2 months of launch (sorry, Evolution).

Evolution WAS awful, but it didn't show up in the US until December 99...making it more than 1-2 months. :P

Maybe in Europe but not in the US. It was about 9-10 months later here iirc.

Are you sure that long? I could have sworn... I remember seeing it on the cover of the Oct 1991 Nintendo Power, and then for Xmas 1991 going to my friend's house to play it. And I remember seeing the SNES for the first time at TRU the end of Aug, 1991.

Yep. FF2 released between April and June 1992 sometime, as did Zelda 3 actually.

I actually enjoyed Evolution for Dreamcast.

The Nintendo DS is a pitiful machine, reducing its owners to begging for table scraps from Nintendo. Thats why mediocre software like Wario Ware Touched can get so much attention. Yoshi is a good B list title but where's the meat? The quality software? All the DS has so far are, like I said, table scraps. Little games that are meant to spend maybe a few days on for a quick thrill, get bored of it, and wait like hungry dogs for the next scrap, err I mean game. E3 may have something new but they can't be doing anymore of these low grade quick thrill games. Or do them to sandwich in between major releases. Don't make them a staple, like they are now.

For launches, seldom are they good. Launches are mostly for the hardcore, the rich impulse buyers, and those that buy into the hype machine. The best policy it appears for gaming is to wait a year for good releases and go for it. So that way bugs for hardware can be fixed and the good games of last year can be had for half price. I personally am still split on the PSP. A part of me is excited for it (lets face it, it looks amazing) but the other part doesn't like to spend console prices for handheld gaming. Maybe I'll wait for emulation to arrive. I'm sure with that memory stick, someone can unload a crack and load all the UMD games to the internet.

I think I'll stick to emulation for my gaming needs for a while. Gaming is just getting too expensive these days if you want to keep up. So my solution is to play old games...on the PC.

Actually, it seems I was way off for FF2. :(

ummm.. I have a PSP.. it's sitting right here at work next to me... and aside from Lumines and Wipeout... what is so awesome about it's launch, really??

and Lumines and Wipeout < Mario 64 and Feel the Magic, so IMHO DS beats PSP, though just barely...

and yes, DC had the greatest launch lineup of all time... Soul Calibur, NFL2K, Powerstone, Sonic Adventure, Ready 2 Rumble, umm.. and that is all of the top of my head.. though their post launch draight did last until like February I believe (Sept - Feb)
