PSP Price and Release Date?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Portable

The PlayStation Portable, officially known as the PSP, is a handheld game console and a product of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan. The PSP was first announced during E³ 2003 and was unveiled on May 11th, 2004 at a Sony press conference during E³ 2004. First released in Japan, its official retail release date was December 12, 2004. It will be released in North America on March 22nd, 2005 and in Europe on March 29th, 2005 at a price of $184.99, which was just accounced by Sony Computer Entertainment president Kaz Hirai on January 22nd at an urgent press conference in Las Vegas. It will come bundled in those territories with a 32 MB Memory Stick Duo. Some launch title games for the Playstation Portable however, will be released in those territories a week earlier and there will not be a value pack bundle like in Japan.

So, after taxes, it'll be about $190. Not bad, I suppose. Not too sure of the source, though. Take this with a nice little spoonfull of salt.

Say what? It was accounced on the 22nd? And not posted on GAF?

Why hasn't any other sites picked up on this? I'd think Sony would be sending out the press releases to all the major gaming sites, but this is the first I've heard of this date and price point. And yes, that is an odd price point indeed.

any joe schmo can contribute something to wikipedia.

but I heard something else is being announced this week, don't know what.

meh...

It's definitely fake, but I just like how it was an 'urgent' press release at Vegas on the 22nd...when nothing was occuring at the time and place

Also, I like how G4's Screen Savers are reporting rumors as news (PSP launching at $149.99 in the U.S.), and didn't give a source to boot
