Sony will be bringing classic PlayStation Portable titles to PlayStation 3 as part of a new PSP Remaster lineup. The company announced the series today along with its first major release.

PSP Remaster offers PSP titles remastered for play on the PS3. The games are spruced up with full HD visuals, compatibility with Dual Shock 3, PS3 exclusive content, 3D support, and other features.

The PSP and PS3 versions of the game also share save data. Sony says that this could allow you to play a game on the PSP while on the go, then continue playing when you return home.

The PS3 versions are also compatible with Sony's Ad Hoc Party for PlayStation Portable service for network play. This free PS3 app normally allows local play PSP titles to use the PS3 as a proxy for true online play.

The series will kick off first in Japan through sales of Blu-ray Disc titles, Sony said. The wording of Sony's statement suggests that the series will also be released internationally and will also see some games offered in download form. The press release did not explicitly mention these areas, though.

For the series' first title, Sony has a biggie. As detailed earlier today, Capcom will release a PS3 version of Monster Hunter Portable 3rd under the name Monster Hunter Portable HD. The 4.5 million selling PSP title will feature 3D support, HD visuals and shared save files with the PSP, and will see release this summer.

This was mentioned in the Monster Hunter 3rd HD thread, but I think it's pretty big news and needs its own thread.

I wonder what games will eventually become part of the Remaster line. There are quite a few PSP games that it would be nice to have on PS3. Square Enix definitely needs to do a Remaster version of Final Fantasy Type-0.

I wonder if we'll also get NGP remasters.

That's a solid way to amortize costs while getting games designed for the system.

I don't give a fuck about ports of games I already own. Give me ports of games that stand no chance of being released in North America because the PSP is already dead.

Holy shit, I hope I get some Peace Walker on my PS3.

Then I will get something else on it.
My man-seed

All the Square Enix and Falcom games please.

Also Atlus if possible.

Final Fantasy Type-0
Metal Gear Solid 5
Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky - Second Chapter
Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky - Final Chapter
Valkyria Chonicles 2
Valkyria Chronicles 3

Those are the main Remasters I want right now.

Boom, headshot!

I guess this concretely rules out the 0.1% possibility of a PSP player in the PS3 XMB/OS in the future, haha.

This was sort of already happening on a smaller scale with some titles, like that one Jak game a year or two ago, Tekken Dark Resurrection HD and Twisted Metal: Head On, and a couple of others.

I'm guessing games like the two God of Wars, Dissidia, Crisis Core, Birth by Sleep, Valkyria Chronicles II and Peace Walker are shoo-ins for this.

I hope this means PSP games sold on the PSN that can be played ON the PS3, personally.
Even for titles already out? Doubt it. Hopefully they unify this a bit more going ahead though.

Peace Walker, Peace Walker, Peace Walker, Peace Walker, Peace Walker...

Please?

Seriously, this would make me squeal.

I think this is a fantastic idea, there are an awful lot of great games on the psp that went unplayed by a lot of people who only game on consoles.

I've been wanting to purchase a PS3. This is probably the final nail in the coffin...I guess this will be the first generation where I own all of the consoles.

No more reason for assholes to use the "its on PSP lololol" to pirate PSP games.

Glad to see that it will share save data as well, that is so so awesome

I've put over 70 hours into Peace Walker already, but if it's announced for the remastered series, then it's day one for me. I'm sure i'll enjoy it even more with a camera stick.

They should've done this WAY earlier.

So what else is coming besides Monster Hunter?

No one knows. It's the only game announced so far, but I believe there was a rumor a couple weeks ago that the God of War PSP games were coming to PS3.

You can all stop complaining about Valk being on PSP now.
Not if the maps are the size they are in Valkyria 2.

Also, like I mentioned in the other thread, where the hell are the PS2 HD collections from Japan?

I'm a little appalled by how long this took.
