I never buy handhelds, I'm fine with listening to my MD on the bus. Anyway, looking at the PSP, is it really that great? All I ever hear is people saying how killer Lumines is, but I wouldn't buy a system for a fucking puzzle game :lol

To be frank, to me I can already do everything you can do with a PSP already, except that a PSP is portable. But I don't care for movies really on a PSP (or any portable device really), nor do I read manga ;) Games-wise, I don't see anything on the PSP worth buying just for the console itself, as the home console market totally outshadows it. And what was all this talk about the PSP being as powerful, or *more* powerful than the PS2? I don't care if the resolution is less, that's another matter - the games still look like shite compared to PS2 titles. What gives?

I don't mean to troll, I just don't see why so many people love the PSP so much. I gotta say though, the price is great when you compare it to the DS.

People love it because
A) It has a good library of games right off the bat
B) It offers current generation home console graphics on a handheld
C) It has everything in one place: Music, Movies, Pictures, Games.

You could have just asked why people like the thing in one sentence, you didn't need a whole paragraph of bitching, but since you're hungry you troll here are some morsels for you -

I never buy handhelds, I'm fine with listening to my MD on the bus.

I see, so you start a PSP topic yet have sweet fuck all intention of ever buying one as in your own words you "never buy handhelds". This makes you a bit of a sad case I think.

All I ever hear is people saying how killer Lumines is, but I wouldn't buy a system for a fucking puzzle game

Nor would I, but Lumines is killer and the reason people are saying it's killer is because it is killer. Understandy?

To be frank

Yes be frank.

to me I can already do everything you can do with a PSP already

Shit, you can?

except that a PSP is portable.

Well gee, here I've been all this time using it connected to a power point. Thanks for the insight professor hawking.

Games-wise, I don't see anything on the PSP worth buying just for the console itself, as the home console market totally outshadows it.

Tell yourself that the next time you take your Xbox with you to play on a bus.

I don't mean to troll

:lol

Why do you have an MD player? I don't see the point. I'm happy sitting at home listening to CDs. I can already do everything an MD player can do, except the MD player is portable.

Well up to you on the games aspect.

...but the PSP's main advantage is it has a beautiful screen, that with the investment of a 512mb or 1gb memory stick, you can watch movies and tv shows on the go.

If that interests you, then the PSP is the best choice.

Owned indeed. :P

Wow...I would never have expected weakshit, GameFAQs level trolling from the likes of Miyuru. Not in a million years.

I think the government's doing something to people

Tetris deservs better people!

so to this trolling machine well all i can say is that PSP is useful for people who likes to play games, lissen to music.

watching movies hmmm well its nice but i rather watch a movie at home on a bigger screen.

I went to go see Pride.29 today at Saitama Super Arena, which is about a 50 minute train ride. What did I do? Did I read a boring book with stupid words? NOOOOO, I started to watch episode 11 of "House MD" in Shibuya and by the time the train pulled into Kita-yono it was over.

PSP IS AWESOME, AWESOME IS PSP.

"But I don't commute!"

Whoop dee fucking doo, that didn't stop you from buying other portables.

edit: i watched futurama on the way back if u were wondering

Man, reading a book is like reading a book--and school's out!

psp is superb.

it can play mp3s, but so can my mp3 player... but my mp3 player doesnt not play games, display comic books, ebooks, play videos.

So, you're asking if it's useful to a person who isn't interested in state of the art portable gaming as well as movies and music (and comics) in a combined unit?

No, no, to such a person the PSP is not useful. You are quite right.

Man ...

I think he was drunk when writing that. That's the only logical explanation. Although drunk posts are usually not as boring as this one.

Perhaps if all you've played on it is Dynasty Warriors and Rengoku (and even then, I could think of some PS2 games that look worse than those).

Don't worry Miryu, I have the same problem as you do, the PSP looks too damn appealing to just pass up doesn't it? You can't think of a way to justify buying one especially if you have gamer friends who you keep ranting about the system to... in a bad way I mean. Also I mean, 500 canadian dollars to pick it up with a couple of games, dunno about you but that's a months savings for a portable game console that'll drop in price by the end of the year.... is it really worth it? Do you see yourself playing the games in that launch lineup... I'd definetly play some of them but is it worth 1 month of saving ?

Some people have such a hard on for games that they'd rather play them for the 2 hours of commuting instead of throwing on the headphones and staring out the window.

Some of the PSP title's I'm not impressed with graphics wise, but there are a few titles that look amazing. Give it time, and the quality will come. It's not like it doesn't have the horsepower.

''don't need no f#&king PSP''

Case closed.

The main issue I have is, it has extra features I'll never use (photo/video/music) and I'm paying extra for it.

I doubt the software needed to run those costs more than a couple of bucks per PSP. And since you're getting your PSP at what most likely is below cost, you're not technically paying extra.

Technically its not costing much, no, but when you have extra features, you can up the cost of your product.

You mean hike the price up artifically? Hypothetically you can, but how is that relevant to PSP, which is being sold below it's manufacturing price?

Yeah, but those multimedia features broaden the appeal of the PSP, which helps it become more successful thus more games and a brighter future. It's like DVD-playback on the PS2. I might not have had much use for it, but I'm glad it was included because it was one of the factors contributing to the PS2's success.

Of course with the PSP it's different, as I do use its music and movie playback features on a constant basis.

i think the DRM and other anti-piracy measure to ensure UMDs would be safe for the movie industry are the main cost for the extra features. The system is powerful enough not to need extra hardware for video and music, and the MS Duo slot for saving games is logical.

I find the PSP to be convenient, but not useful. That is, until UMD movies begin to come out, or Capcom finally ports a bunch of REs to it. :)

I'm just saying, I don't think people would buy a $250 handheld with just game playing functionality. Throwing in those (useless) features lets Sony get more money out of it.

I just have a bit of personal hate for Sony for their shitty hardware that I keep buying. And yet, I keep buying. Sigh.

Just in case he comes back to read this when he's sober:

1. You're missing the entire point of a handheld, which is portability. It doesn't matter that you can watch videos or listen to music or play games at home. With the PSP you can have that on the go. The fact that you then mention that you have an MD player has me scratching my head.

2. PSP games do not look like shit compared to PS2 games. In fact, games like Lumines, Ridge Racers and Tokyo Extreme Racer would look very much at home on the PS2.

3. If the only game you're hearing about is Lumines, then you haven't been listening (or reading, as the case might be). Games like Metal Gear Acid, Minna no Golf and Ridge Racers have also been praised, and upcoming games like Wipeout Pure, Twisted Metal, And heck even NFSU look promising.

whatever the psp may be, it certainly isn't useful. it's probably the best all-purpose time-wasting device i've ever laid hands on. it is as such brilliantly, transcendently useless.

It does not really matter whether the PSP is useful or not. Being able to go from watching Shaolin Soccer to playing Lumines is something that everybody should be able to experience anywhere.

What is MD you're referring to?

You're telling me is that you have all of the following:

1.) GBA SP or NDS = games
2.) 2.5 handheld TV = watching tv
3.) Ipod or MD (?) = listening music
4.) Portable DVD Player = watching movies
5.) Camera + media cards = pictures

And you don't want PSP which can handles all of that stuff in one console?

There is a tuner for the PSP? Is it a seperate attachment like for the TG portable?

Various companies are working on a way to get tv shows broadcasted out through wi-fi. So you could possibly walk into a hotspot with your PSP and watch the local news. Also, the PSP could be made useful with future official firmware updates. Who knows, we might get an internet browser, calculator, and other things thrown into our PSP's.

Ohhh *fapfapfapfapfap*

That'll be kinda neat actually. Or carrying around my class notes into a format that I can read on PSP. Sure I could just bring my laptap around, but PSP is much easier to carry around

just get your hands on one, make sure there's a good game in there (Ridge Racer if possible), and uh, yeah, that's really all the convinving you'll need that well, you need one.

i've yet to see it fail.
